Another masterpiece from director John Michael McDonagh, brilliantly acted by Brendan Gleeson. While there are comedic flashes, here and there, there's nothing funny about the final days of Father James. It's ridiculous that Gleeson didn't get a Best Actor Oscar nomination. The film can be appreciated both as a secular philosophical meditation on the institution of the Cathoiic priesthood and as an overtly religious message film concerning the very same topic. If you pay attention to the details, as they are revealed, CALVARY will leave you with a lot to ponder about the human condition.

Calvary begins with uniquely the most interesting interchanges of recent film and beyond, Father James is listening in the confessional of this man with bitterness in his voice, and told his story," The Confessor then goes on to quickly details of years of abuse at the hands of a priest, Who evidently now dead,. Calvary delivers the gamut of human emotions and experience in an often devastating film that is both thought provoking and moving.

Brendan Gleason has been a favorite of mine for ages. This is an extraordinarily dark, brilliant film that contains a spark of truth that lifts it to a level beyond entertainment to art. it speaks to bitterness, alienation, despair and the human condition at is finest and at its most flawed.. The film is peopled with real humans. Highly recommend. Not for the faint of heart, however.

I admire all of the brilliant Irish actors who starred in this movie! So much talent, this movie could not lose! The story unfolds in a confessional, and all through the movie, you are just praying that it will not end in the fashion set up from the beginning. Story held you on the end of your seat, and made you feel for all of the characters.

Brendan Gleeson once again amazes in a tricky role. He plays a man who becomes a priest late in his life who is forced into examining not only his faith but his place in life and the choices he has made. Beautifully filmed, beautifully acted, unforgettable ending. A true meditation on whether any act can be forgiven.

This film from Ireland takes a dark turn when during a confession a priest is told he's going to be murdered soon. This film isn't always serious, it has a dark humor to it as well. As the film goes along, you wonder who it is, that's going to kill the priest.

Issue: didn't understand free digital download requirements. Wanted to view the download on my TV but can only do so through an app on a tablet or phone or computer. Wish sales person had been more explicit when I questioned.

This is a really good film that deserved a lot more recognition than it got. Picked it up at BB because they had it at a great price! Highly recommend this film because it stars one of my favorite actors Brendan Gleeson.
