Totally worth it! Great video, audio, app, design

I just installed my Canary Flex outside and I LOVE IT! I live out in the country and want to monitor my property for trespassers, escaped livestock, package delivery, and every other reason you’d have for wanting to know what’s going on while you’re away or asleep, like why my dog is barking at night and whether it’s worth getting up for! I have it mounted on a tree in my front yard with the secure mount accessory. No one will notice it there—but I will see everything! The design is very discreet. The wireless option is awesome for my use (away from the house and electric outlets). The app alerts me when the (long-lasting) battery is getting low so I can bring in for a quick and easy charge and have it ready to go back out and do its thing in no time. I’m super impressed with how much of an area can be seen by the camera. I love the included magnetic base (it's really strong) and the swivel capacity for both of the types of bases (I also bought the secure mount)—they give you options for where to put your device because you can angle the camera to see what you need to see. You can watch in live mode whenever you want or just check it when you get an activity alert. The app is awesome and easy to use--that's important to me! As far as the monthly subscription, I looked it up on their website and even without canary membership you still get secure detection, video clips, 24 hours of video history, notifications, and everything that makes it a security device including the connection to emergency services. I have no qualms about subscribing for the extra features. It’s only ten bucks a month! or less for full year—worth it because it stores 30 days of video history, incident support, longer warranty, and get this: two-way talk through the microphone and speaker! (I am so excited about that feature!) Bottom line: the device and subscription are worth every penny. The quality and all of the features and controls are even more than I hoped for. I love that all of it is constantly accessible on my phone. Next I’m getting the indoor version because it can do all this plus air and temperature monitoring.

      Great & flexible security solution - indoor/out

Early adopter of original Canary - back in 2015. Device scratches a particular itch for me: I want some measure of security on my home / business when I'm not there (often), and I don't want to sign up for a monthly service plan. Since I have good internet service & power backups at both locations the Canary service is PERFECT for me since it integrates with my cell phone. This model has four excellent improvements over original - making it a fantastic overall product: 1) Outdoor use / weatherproof 2) Excellent, long-life battery (don't have to plug in / but I recommend doing so) 3) Flexible positioning on magnetic base - can angle up/down (very useful for outdoor situations) 4) Long cord ( A+++ ) Purchased this as second-unit for office - I am already running the Canary app for home monitoring but frankly everything I have in the office is probably more valuable. LOVE that it integrates directly with my current setup - I don't have to install a new application & monitoring is seamless therefore in both locations. That's probably the true power of Canary - that you can monitor multiple locations (or floors) seamlessly within the same app. I ended up moving this unit indoors (I like that its flexible) to monitor second floor & after tuning sensitivity it's been working great - last alert was for an unscheduled cleaning visit. Highly recommend if you're seeking: 1) a flexible product that can be used both in and outdoors, 2) desire a battery backup (internal in the device for no extra charge, 3) don't want to sign up for a monthly service plan (it looks useful but is totally optional), 4) overall quality, integrated device.

Resulted more expensive than I thought

I have 2 security camera systems at home: 1 Arlo Pro and 1 Canary Flex.   Arlo Pro gives you 7 days of cloud, alarm, the option of setting the camera on a customized schedule, downloading its application for PC, 2-way talking mic/spkr, downloading the videos for FREE. Canary Flex gives only 24 hours of cloud and you have to pay 10 dollars/month for having access to all the features. BIG SCAM!! Arlo Pro camera gives far much better quality picture than Canary Flex even though they both are 720p, the first one is brighter, more vivid colors.  In the darkness the first one gives you an amazing view while the second one is undistinguishable dark.  Arlo Pro camera picks the slightest sound, you can hear clearly through the camera people talking up to 12'.  Arlo Pro camera system has gone off-line just once in a month while Canary Flex has being going off line at least a couple of times a day.  Since both cameras are wireless they both lard (they're supposed to) but Canary Flex much more.  Arlo Pro sent you a notification immediately as soon as motion was detected. Canary Flex sends you a notification 1-2 minutes after motion was detected. Arlo Pro camera can be turned on while it's battery is being charged and it takes 2 hours for getting fully charged. Canary Flex camera has to be off and it takes at least 7 hours to get fully charged. Arlo Pro camera shows you the exact % of the battery life left, the exact % of the battery reached when it's getting charged and it also has a blue light that indicates you when it's been fully charged. Canary Flex doesn't, it just shows you an icon of full battery, half, or dead. The only good thing I find about Canary Flex over Arlo Pro is that its lens gives you a bigger panoramic view than Arlo's (but not better quality). Initially Canary Flex seemed cheaper than Arlo Pro but at the end it resulted more expensive because of the monthly charge. If you wanna have access to all the camera features you have to pay. I'm still on trial period with Canary Flex camera so I'm definitely gonna return it.

      PLEASE Don't buy this!

I pre-ordered my first device when I purchased my home under the impressions I wouldn't need a membership for the uses I wanted (I'd be able to get notified, have access to my footage long enough to see and download it if needed, and communicate via the microphone). As of a month or so ago, they decided that wouldn't be the case. Fine. I purchased a membership. Then yesterday, a package was stolen from my front door. I reached out to see why I wasn't alerted. I was told it was my fault. My sensitivity settings were too low. Mind you, I get alerts when shadows move or when a kid walked by my yard in the back (through my other camera). I was surprisingly alerted when the delivery man dropped off the package. But this punk comes up to my door, lingers enough to check out the box and then walks away with it and I get silence. In other words, either your phone blows up every minute or you'll only get notified if someone BIG is within range. There is NO middle. And if you are notified, it'll be after the fact when you can't let them know you're watching because the lag time is significant. Honestly, buy anything else. Canary just is not worth it.

A System with Potential Placed Behind a Pay Wall

I bought a few canary cameras (both the flex and all-in-one indoor camera) a few months ago. Initially, they were great. Setup was easy and for the most part they were somewhat sufficiently configurable. They did have a few flaws and bugs; but, that was not enough to stop me from using them. But, then recently Canary put the majority of the features that used to be free behind a pay wall (even for users that had been using Canary for years). Now, the camera is nothing more than a basic live streaming web cam. Any notifications you receive with the free plan, you are now only able to view a 10 second clip unless you pay approximately $100/year for a subscription. The configurable night mode and away mode are now also behind the pay wall as well. And it would also be important to mention that there has been some degree of service outage every other day for the last several weeks. Canary now expects us to pay $199 for a basic web camera that does not have any useful surveillance features without paying an extra $100/year!? The description of the Canary camera on this website is now also far from accurate!

Sexy and stylish security camera to date

      • Verified PurchaserVerified Purchase

My expectations for the Canary Flex was spot on. This camera looks and functions better than my Nest Drop Cam. I want to start off by saying the packaging and unboxing the unit give me the feeling that its worth the money. The resolution on the flex far exceeds my nest drop cam one. I am able to zoom in with the flex and have a fairly clear view of faces on the street. I am no camera or security guru but for a home owner that wants security cameras without dealing with wires running everywhere this is the one. Since taking ownership of the device and setting it up I have charged it once, and it has been 13 days and I am still at 3/4 battery life. The magnetic base is super useful for me since I can see myself changing the angles of the view pretty often. Overall the Canary Flex is a easy to use device and I look forward to seeing how well it gets use to my outdoor motion. Lets see how this holds up for the next few months!

      Hardware Useless Without Ever-Changing Membership

I've had Canary for 2-3 years during which I expanded to a second unit. I am now in the market to expand for outdoor solutions. Since Canary changed its free model to the useless 24 hour "clips" there have been many frustrated comments posted clarifying what I expect will be the demise of this company. The "clips" are actually more akin to thumbnail images of ones empty room before anything is captured. I've been waiting the torrent of terrible reviews to drive some return to a sensible alternative (note the Apple App Store review rating AVERAGE is a more accurate 1.3). I was even considering a membership when I started thinking of outdoor expansion, but refuse given the drastic changes they've made. After rendering the expensive hardware useless and disregarding customer feedback, I have no trust they won't jack the membership price in the future, keeping those who have invested in what was otherwise a good hardware product as hostage to their never-sated revenue demands. I'll buy a new solution in the next few weeks and I'm not holding my breath that Canary will make any demonstrable effort in that time sufficient to restore any faith I once had. Don't be duped by the otherwise great hardware into a poorly designed cloud-model service. Instead go for something where only you have access to your home security videos and no-one can charge you extra to get them.

Do not purchase this camera!! Canary changed the features on Oct. 3 for non-members to make this useless as a security camera. They have basically forced customers to either purchase membership or the camera is pretty useless as a security device (or much of anything else) You no longer get night mode or full video of triggered events for 24 hours. In other words, it now sucks. They have made it useless unless you pay for their membership fees. I do not ever write reviews good or bad, but felt compelled after paying for this camera and then to have all the features I purchased it for be eliminated by the company, it was a complete wasted purchase. Do not just take my word for it, read recent reviews on the Canary App and you will see hundreds of upset reviews. This review is based solely on Canary and the product, my experience with Best Buy has always been positive.
