Decent Printer but Canon software is horrible

Let this serve as a warning to anyone who wants to get this printer and uses MacOS Sierra (latest version). If you don't care about scanning on your system then this is a pretty good printer. I had no issues setting it up wireless and printing from all wireless devices. I then decided to set the printer up on the wired ethernet and did not have any issues. Everything worked and printed well from computers to mobile devices. I went to Canon's website to grab the latest drivers and software for the printer as of this writing. The biggest problem is if you install Canon's MF Scan Utility you cannot get a scan preview. The machine and software attempt to preview scan but it just locks up and hangs there forever until you cancel the operation on the printer touch screen. You can perform a scan after you cancel the preview, and it will work, but forget about getting a preview so you can adjust size, exposure, or choose your scanning options to get the best available scan. I fought with this for two days. It drove me insane!! The odd thing is, the Mac will natively scan using this machine, and scan preview WILL WORK IF the Canon software is NOT installed. (The problem there is, you don't have very much control of the scan with MacOS Sierra native options and you could not scan over 150dpi. Canon's software allows up 600dpi scans and some other low level options which are still anemic for this day and age). Their scanning software is not very robust and worse than scanning software I have used almost 20 years ago, but it would be functional if the preview worked. I have time machined my system multiple times to go back to the pre-install point of Canon's MF scan utility software and every time it no longer does a scan preview if that software is on my system. (Absolutely inexcusable for someone who scans as much as they print). Emailed Canon support and they were absolutely useless to the point where I laid out everything I did, the problems encountered, and exactly what was wrong, for the rep to email me back and ask me three different questions (in separate emails) I already covered in my initial email to Canon support. I was actually getting mad because he wouldn't have asked me those questions if he READ the email. Then after some back and forth tells me there is no known fix to the issue. This is almost a deal breaker for me. I still have time to return the machine and possibly go with an HP machine I was side by side comparing with the Canon. There are some things I like about both machines. If anyone who buys this printer is using MacOS Sierra and gets scan preview to work WITH Canon's MF Scan Utility software installed, please leave a review and let me know how you did it. (Installing just their drivers does not give you a problem, but also does not add any functionality either). I am hoping that Canon fixes this in a future software release, but as of their latest (4-18-17) download which was an update to a 3-27-17 download this is a no go!!!

You would think that hooking this printer up to a Mac would be a breeze, just plug and play. NOT SO! Following the instructions, I downloaded Mac drivers and then attached a USB cable (that doesn't come with the printer). The printer/scanner did not work. First time I called Canon tech support, and after a lengthy phone call I was advised to return the printer. After thinking about this overnight I decided to hook up the printer wirelessly. The printer would print wirelessly but the scanner would not scan wirelessly. The scanner would only scan when plugged in using the USB but it would not print when plugged in using USB. Second time I called tech support, and after a lengthy phone call I was advised to plug the printer in via USB cable when I needed to scan and unplug it when I needed to print to which I responded I would just return the printer back to Bestbuy. I said to tech support that I found on the CANON support page that a Firmware update was available but was told that it probably wasn't necessary. But the thought of returning this heavy printer was something I didn't relish. I was told to download the firmware update to my computer but it wouldn't upload it to the printer because it couldn't connect to the computer. Tech support was out of ideas. I downloaded the firmware update right to the printer using the display pad on the printer. Once it was downloaded the printer worked better, but I was still having problems. Third time I called tech support, and after a lengthy phone call, all the bugs were worked out and the printer and scanner worked – for two computers. One computer is wired and the other is wireless. Do yourself a favor if you buy this printer: first) follow the instructions to hook this printer up wirelessly; second) download the firmware update using the display on the printer. The printer will do all the work of updating; third) download the Mac drivers; fourth) decide if you want the printer to be wirelessly connected or want it to be wired. The benefit of being wired is that whatever you scan or print it is secure. Nothing is being transmitted over the airwaves. Or, as in my case, two computers are using this printer/scanner, and you can attach the different computers however you want. I wish I knew all this before spending many hours on the phone with tech support. I could have saved myself a lot of time and aggravation. This printer is a fine printer and I would recommend it...even after all this.

i had 2 choices inkjet or laser. i do not print much so the ink would eventually dry and cause a clogged head headache and wasted ink. so i went with the lesser of the 2 evils, a cannon MFC laser. i looked at several other units such as the HP line and brother. the brother best buy sells was not in stock so i chose this canon model. printing is clear and quiet, it's a laser so no smearing. scanning is simple one touch although i have to tinker with the dual sided scanning, NOTE the 632 model does NOT support duplex scanning. initial setup was a bit confusing but i got it going in about an hour. canon has detailed support on how to enable the WIFI feature. to avoid the machine from dropping off the network when it goes into sleep, i decided to dedicate an ip address to it in my network vs. hunting it down. i SERIOUSLY recommend this. especially in windows 10! why i chose this model. the price of replacement CANON toners was the lowest at around $72 per unit for standard cartridges. others were near $100 to $120+. like many others here i try to save money these days but still get a good value for my buck. there is one caveat here i am able to see the printer in linux such as toner levels and that indeed it is online, HOWEVER currently i am not able to print from linux. i will put up an update once i figure this out so stay tuned. final thought, i have no regrets about this purchase. the price was right and the product performs as it should. replacement toner is reasonable and support is a few clicks away. if you are in the market for a laser printer in your windows based office this would the the most economical way to go.

I was frustrated with my Samsung printer that was just a year old (that I didn't buy from Best Buy so no Geek Squad and I won't make that mistake again). I researched on line and went to the store to look at my too few choices. The sales lady was great, was not pushy, and answered all of my questions. I ended up getting this one that wasn't on my list. She pointed it out because it was on sale and had some things I mentioned to her that I wanted and wasn't on any of the printers I had researched. I am so happy with this printer. I thought it may be too big, but it's not like I need to carry it with me, so that was not an issue. My last two printers had networking functionality and I linked them to my home network. That took me forever so I expected the same. To my surprise, this was so easy and took me about 15 minutes which includes loading the drives and updates. I can print from my phone easily as well, which used to give me a lot of problems with my other printers. And most importantly, nothing has messed up and I have used it a lot over the past 4 months! I am used to having to unplug the printer to reset it or to delete and re-add my other printers every so often. This has not happened once. I haven't even had a paper jam yet, and I can't remember a time with my other printers where I went more than a week without a jam. If you do a lot of printing and don't need something portable, I would recommend this printer. It has plenty of bells and whistles. You don't have to worry about feeding paper but of course that is the main thing that increases the size. It's well worth the price and an exceptional or printer, copier, and scanner (I can't speak to the fax function because I don't use it and don't even know if the printer has that feature). If all of that isn't enough, due to the toner, it is cheaper per page as well.

Canon - Color imageCLASS MF632Cdw Wireless Color All-In-One Printer. Purchased for our family as a Daily Deal. Until now, we've always had inkjet printers at home and really considered toner printers a machine solely for businesses. However with two children in high school, printing was becoming a daily event. Most, if not all, homework or essays were printed a few times for proofing. We'd already been researching and comparing cost of machine, ink and average volume each would print. We are so glad we grabbed this up! Honestly think machine will pay for itself in one school calendar year. Yay! Printer is super quiet and lightening fast. Kids print wirelessly, 2-3 pages, front/back and color and it is finished printing before they walk down the hall to computer/desk. I've been so amazed at the quality and speed of this machine. Only wish we'd had purchased sooner! I did not receive any discounts for writing my review. I want anyone who reads this to know that because I like to see that disclosure when I read reviews. A little peace of mind. I do hope this review helps you make a decision and either way, hope your find what you need to save money too.

In the past I have purchased several inkjet printers. They have worked well so long as you use them on a regular basis. The reason I bought this Color Laser printer is that in an inkjet printer the ink dries out if not used. I now have 4 laser printers (2 monochrome and 2 Color). This one being the latest. The oldest monochrome printer is an old Brother model 1440. ALL of these printers have the ability to print after not being used for some time. The 1440 was not used for about 2 years and still printed when I started using it again. Both of the color lasers are Canons. One is a MF624Cw, the other is this new MF632Cdw. Both of these machines are Print, Scan, and Copy types. Neither has Fax. Canon does make this same machine with a fax. Sorry I do not know the model numbers. There are some good points and some bad points to these machines. The good points are (among others) the ability to print after long periods of non use. The prints are wonderful. The machine seems to be reliable. It has a touch screen that will walk you through most operations and has a built in user guide. Plus other things. The "Bad" things are that neither machine is light. The 624 is 50 some LBS. The 632 is a little liter but not much. Both machines use toner cartridges that are not as cheap as inkjet to replace BUT last a LOT longer. The laser printers are somewhat more expensive to buy at first but are cheaper in the long run IF you do not print a lot.

Easy Set Up, Great Quality, and Duplex Printing!!

Super easy set up, just connect to wifi and that's it. Took all of five minutes. (I won't be using the fax function so can't comment on that) Fast printing, even with full color images. Great quality, even on regular paper. I can't wait to see how it looks using better quality paper! AirPrint compatibility is great for the iPhone. My MacBook and iMac both found the printer with no problem. Didn't even need to install drivers manually. Chose this printer over older models because I frequently print 10+ page research articles for grad school and loved that this newer model does duplex printing. Bought it on sale for $199, and for that price I could've gotten a smaller, more compact home printer (even though this is the smallest of this line of Canon printers). This is definitely more for a small office, but I couldn't resist upgrading at this price! The quality, speed, and wireless compatibility more than makes up for how much desk space this takes up.

I received it promptly and was delivered in excellent condition. It is quite heavy, and it is best handled by two people. The installation was easy if you follow the installation guide carefully. I have an iMac computer, and the disc with the software is for a PC. The Canon USA website allows you to download the software for the MAC and the installation of the software was easy. Connecting to my network was as simple as it can get. It was all automatic. I was blown away by the print quality and found the speed of sending files and printing faster than my Brother laser printer had been.It is relatively quiet and straightforward to use. The scanning software is easy to use and the scanning accurate. I haven't tried to print envelopes as yet, but my Brother printer always wrinkled the corner of the containers. I downloaded the printer manually, and it is quite extensive, so I just keep it as a file.I did have to contact Canon Support regarding a warranty card as it was not included in the package (the warranty is three years) so they registered the printer with the phone call. One word of warning, when I googled Canon support, many sites have listed that sound like they are part of Canon. They want to charge for their service. Make sure you go to Canon USA site for downloads or help.
