Excellent All Around Camera
|Posted .Features
Ease of Use4 out of 5I bought this camera for Christmas 2012. So far I am quite impressed. This is my first Digital SLR (I shot 35mm SLR, and Digital Mirror-less prior). I purchased this over the Nikon D5100. The Nikon does produce less noise at higher ISO's, than the T3i does, but I don't generally shoot fast and/or night action, so It hasn't been a problem for me yet. Auto-focus is quite quick and intuitive. I actually prefer Nikons focus-point layout better, but the T3i seems to be a bit faster auto-focusing, and the view-finder is far superior I think. Unfortunately there is no continous auto-focus for video on the T3i. The D5100 does auto-focus in video mode, but it is quite sluggish at best. I have a dedicated video camera, and when shooting video with the T3i, I prefer a manual follow-focus anyways. So no major points lost there as far as I'm concerned. Both cameras have great LCD's. However the T3i does not crop the image unless you are shooting specific formats. Otherwise it maintains 3:2 aspect-ratio full-screen. The Nikon D5100 crops the image in the LCD and uses the border for camera info, whereas the T3i has the information overlayed on the image (and can be toggled on/off with live-view Hstograms, which makes setting exposure quick and easy). Video quality is quite good. Shoots 1080P at 30/25/24fps, and 720p at 60fps (no 720p at 30fps though). Again, no auto-focus, but for those serious about shooting film with the T3i, there is an excellent freeware operating system available online called Magic Lantern (I neither endorse nor condone). It offers a host of upgraded video features such as HDR Video, Custom frame-rates (720p at 30fps after-all), video effects, and zoom options, plus extended ISO range, Shutter speeds, intervalometer, and bracketing features for HDR, among a thousand other features. I got my T3i with the 18-55mm Kit lens, and 55-250mm zoom lens. Both do a good job considering their relatively inexpensive price. Serious photgraphers/videographers will want to upgrade the lenses for sure. Canon makes a great little 50mm F/1.8 for right around $100, which is great for video. But these 2 lenses are really good all-around "Bread and Butter" kind of lenses, that will allow everyone the ability to learn and hone their skills. My only real gripe is the 18-55mm doesn't have a dedicated rubber focus ring on the lense body like the 55-250mm does. But rather, is located at the very front of the lense, is thin and plastic, and somewhat recessed in comparison to the main body, which makes it somewhat elusive when reaching for it in a hurry. The T3i features both IR remote, and Wireless flash control as well. Overall I am happy going with the T3i. It really is just "Apples and Oranges" when trying to compare it to the Nikon D5100. In the end what really sold me was: - The grip felt better in my hand (I have big hands) - The menus and infromation onscreen, are far more intuitive - The controls seemed better layed out to me - Histograms available in live-view (Nikon D5100 only has in image review) - A relatively cheap upgrade to a fast 50mm lense (of course there's always the Canon L series ;) I would recommend this camera to everyone!!!

Perfect

Ease of Use5 out of 5This Canon T3i Rebel EOS camera is considered a great camera for entry level DSLRs'. I couldn't agree more but, I think your getting much more. Although this is my first DSLR camera, in my opinion it has all the bells and whistles anyone especially a beginner could ever want. For example the ability to fire off camera speed lights. I love this function as I am going to start taking Portaits. Use your T3i for a Master and get one or two speed lights for slave units and your in business. The battery life is exceptional too. I did however buy an extra battery as backup. This camera has all the "easy" features if your not comfortable with setting your camera yourself but I as many others suggest you start in "manual" and get to know all about ISO, Apature, and shutter speed. When I bought mine it came with two kit lens' the 18X55 and the 75X300 zoom lens. Both are great lens' but I quickly started purchasing additional ones to get more versatility. Don't be spooked with this because lens' can be very expensive, there are some that are very affordable. Everything you get with your T3i kit will get you up and going like a professional. If your thinking of upgrading to a very nice DSLR then, I recommend this Camera.I am completely satisfied and don't intend on upgrading my T3i for a very long time. Hope this helps you on your decision to go DSLR. Happy Shooting. Oh yes, if you like to Post Process, I recommend Light room 4. Great software for the money. It has a feature on it that can pretty much eliminate "any" noise from high ISO setting. I love it.

Great Camera for sports
Posted .I love this camera! After spending several days researching cameras I had came down to 2 this one and the Canon - EOS Digital Rebel T3. I finally decided on this camera after talking with the sales associate. I take a lot of basketball pictures and most of the gyms are really dark. WIth this camera I can take pictures in low light settings without even using the flash and they come out perfect. And there is no blurring. With the pictures below it is straight out of the box before changing settings. This gym is really dark. Most of the pictures I take are fast acting so the speed of this camera was really important to me. The video is great too. Its crisp and you can follow the actin without any blur. You could even hear the coach on the other side of the gym yelling at my daughter not to reach. The pictures are crisp on the MV setting. Sports mode is good but I perfer the crisp pictures as to the ones with the action a little blurre. The sutter sound is a little loud in the video when you take a picture while recording, but I wouldn't be recording a lot anyway. So that is not an issue.

best camera ive ever had
Posted .This camera is literally the best ive ever used. It still amazes me and ive had it for quite a few months now. The flip out screen is SOOO handy, its ridiculous i hate using other peoples cameras now because im so accustomed to the luxury of being able to turn the screen if i have to hold the camera up high, or low, or to take a picture of myself i can flip the screen around and see myself instead of guessing if its accurate! ha, and the pictures come out crystal clear every time. i have a mac and having the pictures in hd on my huge screen is my favorite, i love showing friends my pictures that way, you really can see every atom of everything haha. one of the only downsides id say is autofocus is kind of slow and doesnt always work, but i just dont use it. manual focus is super easy, its just a pain when i have someone else take a picture of me somewhere and they arent the best with cameras, to have a good autofocus to help them out would be handy but its fine. sound on videos is fantastic, and the image is just as high quality as the photographs. it takes really good pictures in low lights, without the flash, and theres a lot of settings to help you out no matter where you are. it did take me a while to figure out how to adjust everything in the camera settings but now its great! i will honestly have this camera until it breaks on me, which by the way i have accidentally hit it on a few doors and had it bump into a few things and it isnt at all damaged. not saying you should throw it around obviously, but its not super fragile ! anyways just figured id post this so incase anyone was not sure if they should spend the money or not, you DEFINITELY SHOULD, you will forget about the price as soon as you see how clear and perfect your pictures turn out with this. honestly a life changing camera, love love LOVE it <3 ill attach some photos ive taken so you can see what i mean. enjoy (:

Bang for the Buck
|Posted .I needed a camera that could shoot quality video for pro-sumer use but did not want to spend the full frame prices for a camera such as the 5DMkiii. We use a 7D, a lot but needed a backup that could go solo if it had to. Our previous format was with P2 cards on an HVX200 which takes amazing video, along with 35mm DOF adapter and can run literally all day without stopping as long as you have the memory cards, but, it is very poor in low light situations. This is another reason the t3i came into play. Video requires manual focus and I have a set of AIS Nikon prime lenses that look fantastic through the canon sensor. The low aperture rates also help. This combo is great for low light video. Must have an F mount to EOS adapter. Overall the camera has been good. I have encountered it automatically shutting down while shooting video, and well before the 4 gig max on class 10 SDHC cards. Picture controls are easy to get to and or navigate through.

Amazing DSLR
Posted .I was originally planning to purchase the t2i, but the options of the swivel screen and a few others really appealed to me and I opted out and waited for the t3i to be released. I am glad I waited, I really like this camera and it takes amazing pictures! The saying is true plan on spending your money in glass if you want to have professional looking pictures. I also purchased the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens which blows away the stock lens in picture quality! The professional Canon L Series Lenses are very expensive but if your looking for the best picture quality out of your camera plan to purchase one! This camera turned out to be everything I was looking for and then some. If your looking to buy this camera or compare it to the t2i visit dpreview they have a great comparison and review online.

Exceptional quality, options and easy interface

Ease of Use5 out of 5WOW the T3i is smokin' hot! The quality of the images even with the basic kit lens 18-55mm is excellent, and I dream of the day I buy my next upgraded lens and how my images will look. The amount of options on this camera is insane yet so very easy to use!. I've quickly advanced myself into the M mode as there is more flexibility and control for creativity. Night shooting has become a new passion and the low light results are superb! The articulating LCD is awesome, especially for low angle macros and shots aimed upwards. I haven't used the video yet, but look forward to learning the ins and outs, and how to perfect it as I can only say good things about this camera. Way to go Canon...I love you even more!

Top rated camera, great price, very capable

Ease of Use5 out of 5I did my homework on this one and researched many popular DSLRs. The T3i consistently receives great reviews, and is so popular that pricing is pretty standard. I use it for both still photography and some videography, but obviously, its strength is the still photo. Pictures are truly a stunning upgrade from my previous point-and-shoot. It's about more than just megapixels! The 18-55mm auto-focus lens that comes with it is great, and the additional 75-300mm lens works just as well. I love the stop-action with high speed shutter and rapid fire! Spend some time reading about all the great things you can do with this camera, and you'll be hooked! The wakeboarding photo below was our second week with the camera, shooting burst mode with 1/1000 shutter speed.
