    Synopsis

    Catch Me If You Can
A gifted forger and confidence man attempts to stay one step ahead of the lawman determined to bring him to justice in this comedy-drama from Steven Spielberg, based on a true story. Frank W. Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a 16-year-old high school student who finds himself emotionally cut adrift when his mother, Paula (Nathalie Baye), leaves his father, Frank Abagnale Sr. (Christopher Walken), after Frank Sr. falls into arrears with the Internal Revenue Service. One day at school, Frank Jr. attempts to pass himself off as a substitute teacher, and easily makes the subterfuge work. His small-scale success gives Frank some ideas, and he soon discovers bigger and more profitable ways of hoaxing others, passing himself off as an airline pilot, a doctor, and an attorney. Along the way, Frank learns how to become a master forger, and uses his talent and charm to pass over 2.5 million dollars in phony checks. Frank's increasingly audacious work soon attracts the attention of Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks), an FBI agent who is determined to put Frank behind bars. Frank seems to enjoy being pursued by Carl, and even goes so far as to call Carl on the phone to chat every once in a while. While posing as a doctor, Frank falls in love with Brenda Strong (Amy Adams), a sweet girl working as a candy striper. When Frank asks Brenda to marry him, he decides to assume a new identity to impress her father, Roger (Martin Sheen) -- who happens to be the District Attorney of New Orleans, LA. Catch Me If You Can was based on the autobiography of the real Frank W. Abagnale Jr., who has a cameo in the film and today works on the side of the law as a top consultant on preventing forgery and designing secure checking systems. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

i have a DVD collection that I have assembled over the years. If I do purchase a DVD it is generally a movie that I have viewed on a movie channel and really enjoyed watching. There are only a few movies that I consider worthy to purchase. This is one of a few movies that I enjoy watching again. The movie, "Catch me if you can" is based on a true story. The main character poses as having many various careers. He was successful emulating a doctor, airline pilot and many other professions. The movie is very entertaining while watching him pull off many ruses..

Leonardo nailed the role and Tom Hanks was the perfect choice for the detective. All around a great movie that is more than just a lot of things going on with no explanation of why or how. The details of how this true story unraveled is very intriguing. From what motivated young Frank Abignale to how he was able to pull off these extraordinary cons and hoodwinks. There are a few less than kid friendly scenes but they are for the most part brief, some language, but overall a solid movie and very captivating story.

I don't hear Catch Me if You Can mentioned a lot when people bring up Spielberg's mid-2000s output, and that's a shame. I'm at the point now where I prefer it to The Terminal, and pairing up Tom Hanks with Leonardo DiCaprio (and, to a lesser degree, Christopher Walken) keeps the breezy tone a little better grounded.

Starts out slow but gets but gets more intriguing as we move into the 2nd half of the movie. Tom Hanks and Leonardo Dicaprio do a fantastic job. The best part was the movie was it was based on a true account of the life a criminal and the FBI. The end is a surprise.

My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed watching this amazing and wrenching story of a young genius who tried to find his way in a confusing world by impersonating trained professionals and faking his way. The end of his story was almost as amazing as the beginning.

Excellent movie that I could watch once a year and never get tired of it. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks are excellent as they engage in game of cat and mouse throughout the film. DiCaprio manages to keep weaving in and out of situations in ways that will constantly leave you dumbfounded.

This movie is one that withstands the test of time. It is one that I can take out and dust off every few months and enjoy it all over again. An incredible cat and mouse story based on true life events. I found myself rooting for the bad guy much of the time.

Truly one of the greatest "rise & fall of a notorious criminal" flicks. Every time i finish watching this, i want to go on a white collar crime spree. A must-have for all film lovers.
