it is a very good telescope. i bought it for my 12 year old cousin -- this was a good stepping stone telescope to see if astronomy really interested him or not. It was good for viewing the Moon -- watching the surface of the moon through this telescope left a memory i will never forget. i didn't find it good for viewing stars, etc.

This is a good solid intermediate refractor telescope and tripod per price range. I consider refractor telescopes in the 60mm-70mm range intermediate telescopes. Everything works well right out of the retail box for instant night time enjoyment. The optical lenses are made from glass, coated, and are of high quality. The included tripod is very sturdy with the 60mm telescope attached and can take on a light outdoor breeze with minimal turbulence. Choose the AZ mount over EQ for novice users. Aperture is not always everything when it comes to purchasing a first or seventh telescope . I would rather have higher quality lenses with lower aperture over lower grade lenses at greater aperture. This scope is 60mmx700mm and provides clear views of near by planets, our moon, and local star constellations just fine. Just don’t expect Hubble-Telescope quality. The scope is fairly lightweight at approximately 7lbs. Set up time is minimal at less than 5 minutes. Outdoor cooling time is minimal at a few minutes via my local climate. I would recommend refractors over reflectors for overall ease of use, upkeep, and clearer images when compared to other alternative telescope builds. This telescope is affordable to upgrade. You can swap out the diagonal for a better one, purchase a couple higher mm aspheric lense eye pieces and upgrade to a red dot finder for 1/3 of the total price of this telescope. It will enhance overall enjoyment—Just keep an eye out for sales or purchase used. I recommend storing this telescope in a larger padded tripod bag which you can find rather cheap via online vendors.

Purchased this for my ten year old a different gift than all the electronics she already has. Creates a new conversation for the kids and they love it.
