Never looked at my childhood toy the same again.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first saw this movie i was a much younger child. When I saw it I owned a My Buddy Doll. The My Buddy Doll bares a striking resemblance to the Good Guy Doll in this movie. Needless to say I eventually packed that doll away. Despite the fact that this movie scared me when i was younger i have always liked it. the effects aren't too cheesy for the time. The story is good and the acting isn't horrible.

Hi! I'm a Chucky BluRay, wanna play?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What else can be said about Child's Play that already has been said since its release 29 years ago? The film is a classic, but with several flaws throughout, but worthy of the status. This brand new BluRay though? This is a fantastic set for fans of the film, and a big upgrade from the older MGM/Fox release. This release, spread over 2 discs, has all the old features and several new ones and a new 2k scan of the film on its own disc. Having owned the previous BluRay & DVD releases (The picture quality on those is fantastic and to save a few bucks, I would recommend a pick up on those and they come with a ton of extras as well), this is a superior release with a more accurate feel to the film, well-preserved film grain and upticks in detail across the board and looks nice on a larger screen. The sound does carry over the MGM 5.1 DTS-HD track from a few years ago and sounds great, but the inclusion of the original lossless 2.0 DTS-HD track is the way to go. Accurate, no warping or other major issues, and some surprising heft in the bass department, it works on all levels. The extras are the main reason to upgrade to this edition (Along with the 2k remaster and the cool artwork), starting with 4 commentaries (3 full length, 1 selected scenes.), 3 of them carried over from the MGM DVD/BluRay. Track #1: Stars Alex Vincent, Catherine Hicks and Chucky Designer Kevin Yagher (A good listen, with plenty of details and stories about the shoot and how the film means to them) Track #2: Film Series Producer David Kirshner and Screenwriter Don Mancini (A more technically oriented track that is equally entertaining and informative) Track #3: Brad Dourif as Chucky (Quick, slightly amusing, but only worth listening to once. Would've been great if Dourif was paired with the cast or etc.) Track #4: Director Tom Holland (Haven't listened to it, but this is the newest track of the bunch) Moving onto disc 2, there are plenty of new and all the old supplements starting with the old: Evil Comes in Small Packages (A good making-of/interview piece from the original BluRay/DVD) Chucky: Building a Nightmare (A good look on how Chucky came to be) A Monster Convention (An okay look at a piece from a convention) Introducing Chucky: The Making of Child's Play (A good look at the techniques used to bring the doll to life) Vintage Making-of (A short EPK of the making of the film from 1988) New stuff includes: Behind-the-Scenes Special Effects Footage (An hour-long look at creating the effects and interviews with the crew members) Howard Berger: Your Special Effects Friend Til the End (A lengthy talk with Berger and how he helped shape the film with Chucky) Life Behind the Mask: Being Chucky (Another lengthy interview, this time with Ed Gale, the human counterpart of Chucky used for more complicated work that puppetry couldn't pull of at the time) All of this is rounded off with the trailer, a TV spot and photo galleries of BTS photos and lobby cards and posters and reversible artwork on the case itself. Overall, this is a highly recommended purchase, with great video and audio quality, all the old extras, several new pieces and nice artwork, but if you are scraping by, get the MGM disc, its several dollars cheaper, has good AV qualities and a lot of the extras from this release.

Child's Play
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All Andy wanted for his birthday was the hottest toy on the market, a Good Guy doll. Odd that the evening of the day he got it, his aunt Maggie is killed mysteriously, then Andy points the blame to Chucky, his Good Guy doll. Only a sane person would want to believe that Andy has a wild imagination, right? Who would believe that a toy was possessed by the soul of a serial killer? Child's Play set a new precedent in the horror movie genre in the late 80's, and has many imitators, but there is only one killer doll: Chucky. Shout Factory's sci-fi/horror movie subsidiary Scream Factory has a penchant for putting out reissues of films for fans that want a nice supplemental package included with their Blu-Ray/DVD, and I get the feeling that they do this rather well because they're fans of these films themselves. Needless to say, this is highly recommended.

THE SPECIAL FEATURES ARE VERY ENLIGHTENING
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This classic slasher flick still does it for me. It's still the best in the series and when I watched the special features, I was educated on the history and development of the film and story. I don't want to give any spoilers, but watching the features gave me a whole other terrible idea of what this COULD HAVE BEEN if it weren't for Director/screenwriter Tom Holland and co-screenwriter John LaFia. If you ask me Don Macini's original idea sounded a lot like one of Charlie Band's killer doll movies and we know how bad those were. So, yes... I highly recommend the Shout Factory version of this. Plus it's still a great Christmas flick. Hi-de-ho.

Where it all began
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.See where Chucky, the killer doll, started his murder rampage in this classic horror flick. Chucky is one of the few classic horror icons to still be releasing new movies & tv shows. You’re better off buying collection with all the movies in it, but this is still a solid choice!
