Synopsis

Christine
Director John Carpenter returns to the suburban landscape he explored so chillingly in Halloween (1978) with this lean, stripped-down adaptation of the Stephen King best-seller about a haunted car with a devilishly bad attitude and the teen underdog who falls head-over-heels for her chrome-accented charms. Shortly after geeky, horn-rim-sporting Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) narrowly escapes a beating at the hands of shop-class bully Buddy Repperton (William Ostrander) on the first day of his senior year, he soon falls prey to a far more duplicitous villain in the form of a rusted-out 1958 Plymouth Fury nicknamed "Christine" by its crusty owner George LeBay (Roberts Blossom) -- who sells wide-eyed Arnie the old hulk despite the protests of best friend Dennis (John Stockwell) and the admonition of his domineering parents. As Arnie sets to the task of restoring Christine, his hobby grows into an obsession -- and the real power that hums beneath her hood begins to emerge, seemingly granting newfound coolness and sex appeal to the once-nerdy outcast, while simultaneously drawing away his very soul. A vengeful spirit, Christine lashes out violently at those who dare to stand between her and Arnie -- starting with Repperton and his gang, who completely trash the car, but are soon hunted down one by one and pulverized beneath the whitewalls of the miraculously-restored Fury. When Arnie's pretty, popular girlfriend Leigh (Alexandra Paul) begins to suspect she may soon be on the receiving end of automotive vengeance, she calls on Dennis for help... but a frightening midnight ride in Christine convinces Dennis that Arnie's only hope lies in destroying the demonic vehicle. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

This film is interesting to me. At face value this film is about an evil car, Christine, that is overprotective of it's current owner. When you watch it from that perspective, the film is boring due to you never really finding the car threatening and characters' deaths by the car defy logical thinking by them to attempt to avoid the car. Now, I like to watch it as a case study of a character becoming so obsessed by the car that they mentally, physically, etc change and you get to watch them slowly lose themselves. It is interesting watching Arnie, Christine's owner, change over the film as his obsession with Christine grows. Keith Gordon (Arnie) did an amazing job acting in this film and I would argue his performance is extremely underrated. The transfer of the film for this packaging is really good. The video and audio quality are solid. Note: this disc is the same one that was used for the 2015 blu-ray release. The steelbook is "ok". I like the artwork on the front, but there isn't any artwork on the back or inside.

This Is A Classic Movie For Horror & Christine Fans To Collect Only If You Want The Steel Book Copy Which Has A Cool Neat Cover. Why I Say This Cause If You Already Own The Regular Copy On Blu Ray Or Have The Special Edition Of Christine On DVD, Your Not Getting Anything Different On This Release When It Comes To Extras. Same Special Features Just Wit More Audio Language Options To Choose From. I Think If They Had A Special New Feature To This Film Where They Could Of Added The Deleted Scenes To The Film To Made It Longer & Go More In Detail With The Characters In The Story Like The Book Would Of Been Excellent For This Copy. So If Your Looking For Anything Else Just Save Your Cash Unless The Steel Book Is What Your Into & Looking For & Don't Have The Other Versions Of This Film.

This OLD Standard, is a classic Love story gone wrong. The Young Lover falls for Christine, who is incapable of being able to feel his deep commitment. Only more of his life's blood will satisfy her hungry cravings. She delivers, of herself, only to show her true ambitions. She hangs on to him, clinging for more, demanding everything he can give. The "tidbits" she dangles before him, only drain his good intentions, and deliver an ambition for "EVIL", and strikes flames in this, his newest of passions. Watch for the changes in both of their aspects. You may be consumed, as many of us have been, this downhill destruction ultimately finalizes their union.

John Carpenter adapts Stephen King's novel with skillful precision. A high school kid becomes obsessive in his feelings for a very strange car he has bought. The car is given the name Christine and repays her owner's adoration by "taking care of" his enemies. It is fun watching Keith Gordon, owner of Christine, go from wimp to self proclaimed stud. Also in the cast are: John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Harry Dean Stanton and David Spielberg. It is super cool watching Christine repair her damaged parts. This is an underrated movie that deserves a repeat viewing. And a hypercool soundtrack. One of a kind you won't easily forget!

I missed out on Twilight Time's limited edition for this bluray a few years back, so I'm very happy that Sony decided to release it themselves at a very affordable price. The movie itself is one of Carpenter's better efforts. It has a fantastic ominous score which sounds great in 5.1. The picture quality is amazing. Christine never looked so shiny and red. Very clean, detailed and filmic. All the bonus features from the special edition DVD are also featured on this release plus a uv digital copy. This is an easy recommend. I wish all catalogue titles received this treatment.

I most feel alone on this - seems the critics didn't care for Christine. Oddly, I read and did not like the book, loved the movie. It really brings this living car to life. The casting is perfect and instead of suffering through the point of view of "I'm the geek's friend" football player, you get more of Arnie's point of view and of course Christine. I really thought Alexandra Paul was perfect too, beautiful and believable as the girl who "gave Arnie a shot." You route for her and Arnie, despite the odds. The car effects are great. Thank you Mr. Carpenter!!

I can recall seeing "Christine" at a drive-in (what's a drive-in?) upon its initial release in 1983, and I vividly remember being effectively creeped out by the character of Arnie Cunningham. When watching it again, I still am. This flick is pure b-movie awesomeness. The car is killer (in more ways than one), Gordon's performance of a nerd turned totally unexpected and unhinged ladies' man is phenomenal, and Carpenter's direction is stellar. Definitely one of the man's best efforts, and that's saying a lot.
