Better than the WMP600N
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe box says Vista compatible, but that's not the 64-bit version that's being sold these days. This doesn't mean it won't work, it's just that Linksys doesn't ship it with the right drivers. I found a forum on the Linksys website where it said that Ralink is the real maker and you can get a driver from their site (free download) - it's the RT256/6x version. You can find out where by searching for it (not allowed to put that info in a review). Pretty bogus you have to do that if you're running Vista-64, but the driver is also compatible with the new Windows 7 coming out in the event you upgrade. I had previously bought the WMP600N (Wireless-N, dual band) but could hardly get a signal downstairs with it's wimpy apparatus. I had an older adapter that worked fine in the same location but it's not Vista compatible...I took a chance on this model and what a difference. I now get great signal which means fast downloads. Plugging in the adapter is no big deal. Having to go and download a driver and then overriding the device setting to use it is a little extreme which is why I give it lower ratings in ease of installation. If you're not running Vista-64, piece of cake and great product! If you're running Vista-64 and don't have the patience or aptitude to do the above, look for another product that is already compatible. The WMP600N worked fine for me (and is Vista-64 compatible) if I was right next to the router - I was just looking for longer range since this desktop is not exactly portable.

Simple and Effective
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis product is good but not great. The installation was simple, but make sure you open up your PC and check to see if you have an available PCI slot before opening the box. The only downside to this is the range. My router was roughly 50ft away from my desktop cpu and the signal strength was low while the Mbps was at a horrifying 12. I moved the router so that it it can be closer to this product and everything seems to be running smoothly now at roughly 36-48 Mbps at roughly 30ft with a "very good" connection. It seems almost every time I log on and off the cpu, the wireless strength needs to be reestablish, which is normal, but it takes a long time to make that connection. My wired for my other cpu runs at a steady 100 Mbps while using this product my Mbps dropped all the way to 36-48 Mbps. Overall, a good product if you don't want to deal with wires anymore, but the range and strength is something to take note of, so I advise that you have a strong router preferably Linksys so that it can be easily recognizable with this product.

Works Great
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendthis thing is great, I found an old computer that I had bought a few years ago in my storage room and decided to update it for the kids. I had a choice run a 100 ft cable across my house or upgrade to wireless. Installation was easy and fast just make sure you install the software before you put the pci card in. after that you will be on the web in no time. My old computer was still running on xp service pack 1. It still installed with no problem. I was able to download all the updates I needed and write this review.

Good product for basic internet needs
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have went about 3 months without internet, with me still attending high school, I really needed some sort of access to the internet so I can conduct my research and what not. While I was playing with my Nintendo DS, I always used my neighbors open network to access Wi-Fi for my online gaming needs. But then I really wanted to make use of my desktop to access that network. So i googled around and found about these desktop cards. I eventually bought this one and I have to say it's pretty good. The installation instructions were spot-on easy. And it only took about a little under 15 minutes to connect. The internet speeds are almost equal to my old broadband connection. So if you need basic internet, this is the prefect product for you. And if you're a gamer, I dont really recommend it.

Performs as Advertised
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this wireless adaptor to move my sons' desktop PC into a more central location on the first floor of my single family house. The wireless router (i.e. Actiontec MI424-WR Rev. D provided with my Verizon FiOS) is located on the second floor. After a straightforward installation, the computer recognized the card and I was able to log into my home network. The single strength is excellent. This is a terrific product.

Works in Linux
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have an old P3 450 MHz with ASUS P3BF that I turned into a Linux box (running Ubuntu Hardy Heron.). The computer resides in the basement, far from my modem; so, I thought I'd try this wireless card. Installation was very straightforward. I've been running this card for about a month with no connection problems. Experiment with the antenna angle if you are having network problems for best performance.

Not Compatible with Windows 7 64 bit
Posted .No, I would not recommend this to a friendThis device will NOT work with Windows 7 64 bit From Linksys Support chat: :When will Linksys have drivers that work with windows 7 64 bit? The Vista driver results in substantial packet loss (15% plus). I am currently using a generic Ralink driver, which fixes the packet loss, but now causes the system to freeze solid whenever I upload (40437) (privately): I am afraid this adapter hardware will not supprt windows 7 64 bit . You will have to go for another hardware model like WMP600N, WUSB54GC version 3 , WUSB600N or AE1000 adapter I am afriad , as this adapter has no chipset to support windows 7 64 bit : so, to be clear, this device will never work properly with windows 7? (40437) (privately): As per our resources, I am afriad this adapter will not work with windows 7 64 bit

Works great for me.
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI got the card for my neighbor. He accesses my wireless G hub. He's got XP 32 bit. I tried to run the install disk and it failed. So I looked up on the user boards and it said just plug it in and restart. It auto detected, I let XP search the CD that came with it and by the time I turned my head and back I got "wireless network available" message. I am completely happy with that part. The issue I have is that the antenna needs to be, literally, right up against the window to work. I am going to resolve this with a range expander in his attic.
