I knew I wouldn't get the advertised 16 mile range. But they did reach almost 3 blocks. They'll be good for my family at the mall or amusement park probably. Also, I spend a lot of time in my basement, and there is a dead cell spot, so these do the trick when the wife needs to yell at me.

I bought these for my 6 year old son. He wanted Nerf Walker Talkie's but with the bad reviews on it, I thought it would be better to get him real Walkie Talkies. They work great. I like that you don't hear static when it's on. We don't usually talk very far away from each other, but I was able to talk to him from his school when he was home. School is a little under a mile drive away uphill with houses and trees in the way. It has 22 channels so you don't have to really worry about being on same channel with someone else unless you leave it on the default 1. My only con would be battery life. There is no power saver mode, so if you accidentally leave it on, expect to have to replace batteries. We've had to replace Duracel batteries several times in a month of owning them and he doesn't really use it that often. I would have loved it if it had a rechargeable battery, but I guess AAA's are easier to replace if you have no power outlet.

Bought this for my grandson to "play" with for his 6th birthday. Feedback from him was that it's great. Dad told us that they have used it outside and between cars. Other Grandma lives 16 miles away (the ideal range of this set) and doubt that it will reach that far. I will edit my review if I hear that it does have that kind of range. Absolutely can't beat the play value of this for boys and girls (lets his sister use it) inside and outside, city or farm. Smaller size fits well in kids hands or pockets for carrying. Durable build. Would recommend.
