First of all , I signed up for an account here simply for the purpose of reviewing this album, but I also want to say that John Zorn's output transcends and includes all genres of music and it is well worth it to delve into the many musical worlds he has created. He is so important yet not well recognized.. let him be heard!!
So, Cobra: Game Pieces Vol. 2 consists of several songs which are "game pieces"- a song played by multiple musicians who improvise on their instruments according to the direction of a promptor, who in the case of these recordings is the man himself, creator of the Cobra game/phenomenon, John Zorn.
The album is best listened to straight through, and is really not meant as background music to a cocktail party- it is sporadic and spontaneous, it begins to stimulate the brain with its complex rises and falls- after listening to the album in it's entirety (if you can handle it) your brain will feel like it just worked through 25 long division problems.
This cd is amazing, as is all John Zorn, and it will change the way you listen to music, but only if you give it the chance it deserves!
I would recommend this to a friend
