Living a happy, normal life, a ten year-old girl named Cataleya (played as an adult by Zoe Saldana) narrowly escapes execution at the hands of the same men who’d already murdered her parents. After escaping, she goes on an epic (at least for a ten year-old traveling alone) journey. Finally ending at her uncle’s home in America. Her uncle asks the young girl what she wishes to be when she grows up and she says an assassin. After initially trying to dissuade her from this course of action, he offers instruction. There’s nothing earth-shattering here. There’s barely a narrative here. It’s basically the human equivalent of two trains colliding on a track at full-speed. I admit, I enjoyed it. Having said that, it’s a popcorn movie, or it would be if I still ate popcorn. Action sequences, fight sequences, and explosions. If that’s not your thing, skip this one. If it is, you’ll probably like it a lot.

It's an absurd story but that's why we love movies. A young girl witnesses the brutal murders of her parents and instead of freaking out and being placed in a mental institution, her life becomes absorbed with taking revenge and learning everything she can to make that happen - including becoming a 'cleaner' or hitman herself while looking for her folks murderers - while keeping her identity anonymous! Through one of her executions she learns of and exacts a measure of revenge and soon attracts the attention of those she seek. Anonymnity is good except that Zoe likes to apply a unique signature to her work as an artist does. Everyone knows that in order to find an artist, all you need to do is follow the signature...

For some this film may be a bit too violent. For others who love action, it will be the cream de' la creme of action movies. It is jammed packed with heart-racing scenes. And through it all you somehow come out actually caring about the main character. Sometimes women in the part of the kick-butt action star comes off as being "just too much" and rather unbelievable. This film does a better job than most of NOT coming across that way. Though a few of the hand to hand fighting scenes were a bit stretched.. all in all this film is a must-see for those who like the action genre.

I'm a huge fan of Luc Bessons work going back to Leon and even the more well known Taken franchise (although to be fair, the first was the best and the sole one written by him). I think it's easy to see this as a female version of Taken, and that easy assumption would be wrong. There might be some similar threads, and to be fair Besson does seem to resurrect many similar threads over several of his works (many writers do this, Aaron Sorkin in particular), but it's presented with a good, tight camera style and very solid acting all around. I purchased this out of the economy bin for $5 and it was worth every penny.

I bought this because I'm a Zoe Saldana fan and I wasn't disappointed. The little girl they had playing the young version of her character was also excellent but I thought they spent too much time on that back story. Great atmosphere and locales. I've seen the general plot too many times to think it was remotely original in that sense but, Saldana did as good or better job of acting than Avatar. The extras were perhaps a tad better, but not more, than the usual self-aggrandizing stuff. I only buy flics that I'll watch more than once ( as opposed to getting them from the library) and I'll definitely do so in this case.

I really enjoyed the extended scenes of action in this Unrated version of Colombiana. Zoe Saldana's performance in this movie of loss, love and supreme revenge is nothing short of brilliant. You will definitely be entertained.

I waited a while to see this so many people to me it was bad. It had something to do with the makers of taken so I thought how bad could it be. It's right in between. Some parts are just to unrealistic and cheesy. The little girl that played the part seemed so innocent and transformed in a second. The whole point of revenge just didn't seem worth it to me as a viewer. I lost interest in it after a while. Worth a rental if you like action films.
