    Synopsis

    Commando
Colonel Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is retired and living peaceably with his 10-year-old daughter (Alyssa Milano) when she is kidnapped by the henchmen of an exiled Latin American dictator. The dictator's plan is to reinstate himself in power by eliminating the president of his country, using Matrix to kill him (or he will kill the kidnapped daughter). Matrix escapes from the plane that is supposed to be carrying him to his mission and then proceeds to go from one violent confrontation to the next as he hunts down the dictator and moves to rescue his daughter. Helping him is Cindy (Rae Dawn Chong), who has her own reasons for wanting the dictator dead. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

"If you think you've seen Commando before on DVD then you're gonna pass on this one, right? WRONG! This guilty pleasure is one of my all-time favorite testosterone pumping 80's Ahnuld action flicks chock full of some of the most memorable and hilariously over-the-top one-liners ever assembled in a single Schwarzenneger film with an exhaustive body count tally of 81 confirmed kills. Now it's finally getting the UNRATED Director's Cut treatment it deserves so we can see even more of the Governator at his macho 80's Republican finest. The Commando Director's Cut DVD features the original 90-minute theatrical film plus an all-new 95-minute unrated version as envisioned by director Mark L. Lester restoring over five minutes of never-before-seen footage back into the film. Additional DVD special features include director audio commentary, deleted scenes, two behind-the-scenes featurettes, photo galleries and more. Special Features: Commando Director's Cut is presented in widescreen (1.85:1 aspect ratio) with English 5.1 Dolby Digital and Dolby Surround audio, Spanish Mono, French Stereo plus French and Spanish subtitles. Bonus content includes: * Seamlessly branched Director's Cut with never-before-seen footage * Audio commentary by director Mark Lester (on theatrical version only) * Deleted Scenes * Pure Action featurette * Let Off Some Steam featurette * Photo galleries with over 150 images - Creating Commando - Domestic Bliss with John and Jenny - Kill Arnold, Kill! - Trashing the Galleria"

      So Bad it's Good

Commando is one of those films that is so absolutely stupid that it makes you laugh out loud the whole way through the film. The funniest thing is that it appears as though director Mark Lester and crew actually thought they were making a top-notch action film that was supposed to kind of "not take itself too seriously". Well, not taking oneself too seriously and not taking oneself seriously at all are two completely different things, and the result is a film that is so absolutely ridiculous that one can't even begin to wonder who was really in charge of this production because it seems to be more slapstick comedy than 'pumped up' action. Rumor has it that Arnold Schwarzenegger was very disappointed when 'Commando' was blown away at the box office by 'Rambo: First Blood Part II', apparently feeling 'Commando' was a "much better film". Well, it wasn't, and this Director's Cut dvd will help show you why, all while you laugh your way along. The anamorphic transfer is excellent as are the bonus features, something every 'Commando' fan should have in their collection!

Well... I like 80s films from my childhood. The cheesier the better. You do not get any cheesier than the quotables from this film. The 'Austrian Oak' at his funniest. However, this transfer leaves a LOT to be desired. If you have a 4K set and a great player, you will notice a ton of grain and horrible DNR...no matter how much you adjust your settings. My old DVD copy actually looks better than this. Sad, but hopefully a later 4K Schwarzenegger Set will offer an improvement. I appreciate this gift, but cannot recommend if you have a 4K set. This did look okay on my old 1080p set in the guest bedroom so there is that.

4 of 5 stars for the Arnold action movie Commando. This movie is firmly set in the mid-1980's. Arnold is young and Alyssa Milano is a child. The story is simple and the action great. Ex-military Arnold learns that the members of his old troop are being killed. Eventually, they kidnap his daughter (Milano) trying to force Arnold into doing a task. Well, Arnold goes Commando to hunt down where they are holding her and to get her back. Armed with knives, guns, granades and a rocket launcher, he goes into their lair. An easy/basic plot, not much acting/characters to get in the way of the action. Just good old hand-to-hand Arnold. Oh, forgot, he had a few claymores along for the ride. A fun action movie.

If you haven't seen it before, this is pretty much classic Arnie action here. Cheesy one liners, a simple plot, and lots and lots of Arnold killin folks, not much more to it. A great movie all around with a few very memorable lines, so if you haven't checked it out I really recommend it. Now as for the case itself, presumably the reason you're going to buy this version instead of the regular release. It's a decent MetalPak, pretty basic overall, nothing fancy here, just a simple design and the disc, not even a digital copy or anything. The lighter colored spine looks rather unusual with my other Steelbooks since around 95% of them have darker colors, but it's still a nice case. Well worth the low price.

This steelbook includes a new MPEG4 AVC encode and a few gory images. If you are a Schwarzenegger fan then this item is a must buy! Commando (1985) is a classic is every sense of the word. This plot is very simplistic but is a non-stop thrill ride from beginning to end. It is literally one action set piece to another. Make sure to put up the following masterpieces if you haven' already; The Terminator (1984), The Running Man (1987), Total Recall (1990), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Last Action Hero (1993) and True Lies (1994).
