    Synopsis

    Coriolanus
Ralph Fiennes' directorial debut, Coriolanus, scripted by John Logan, updates one of Shakespeare's more difficult plays without sacrificing the Bard's original dialogue. Set in modern times, the movie stars Fiennes as the title character, a fierce General able to fight Rome's most dreaded enemies as well as quell civil unrest from a lack of food. When politicians convince Coriolanus to become a political leader, his natural fierceness and lack of political instincts lead to him being disgraced by other politicians and eventually forced to leave Rome after being branded a traitor. He then joins with his former enemies to invade Rome, and the only person who may be able to talk him out of this revenge plan is his mother (Vanessa Redgrave). The film, which features a portion of the play's dialogue transferred into the mouths of talking-heads on television news shows, played at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

It is described as William Shakespeare's "Rambo" and that is a fitting descriptor. The difference being that while both movies combat / action scenes are weak in the realism department this films acting is at a whole different level. Any true fan of the stage and theater will enjoy the acting and the movies classic style presentation. However I would not recommend this movie at all for those looking for another shoot-em-up to add to their collection. This film is all about the actors relating a classic tale to the audience.

Blu-ray is the only way to watch this movie if you missed it in theaters. Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler are captivating and ooze magnificence! The subject matter is well presented, as another modern take on Shakespeare's lesser known works makes it's way to the moving picture. If you are looking for a gripping story and compelling cinematography from a brilliant first time director, get this film!

Corialanus is a difficult play and rarely produced so for Finnes to take it and make it relevant and real for taday's world is a wonderful accomplishment. It is also nice to see Gerard Butler given the chance to remind us he is a fine actor.

If you're a fan of Shakespeare...you'll like this. If you're a fan of war movies...you'll like this. If you enjoy both then you're in for a treat. That being said this movie is definitely not for everyone.

At first, we were like "great, a shakespere like movie" < (being sarcastic) but after we finished watching the movie in its entirety, we were all surprisingly pleased.

But that's just my opinion, you have to purchase this to judge for yourself. I never listen to reviews, I only care about what I think.
