A dying scientist pushes forward his project to tap through to the Earth's magma layer, with results that threaten to destroy the Earth as we know it. This was 60's Sci Fi and it was not the greatest story, but the special effects were above average. Not a bad popcorn flick.

I consider this movie to be very similar to other SciFi movies of the period such as The Thing, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Them, War of the Worlds, When Worlds Collide, etc. The story line is good, but the special effects are rather primitive. It is not a movie for every SciFi fan, but will appeal to those who like the old classics.
