Culinary Masterpieces: Four Great Foodie Films [4 Discs] [DVD]

This box set caters to fans of food-themed documentaries, with a quartet of nonfiction films highlighting culinary mastery from around the world. First on the bill is Andrew Rossi's 2007 A Table in Heaven, a profile of the famous Manhattan eatery Le Cirque, amid its pivotal transition from its founder, pasta primavera creator Chef Sirio Maccioni, to his three sons. Next up is Kings of Pastry (2010), from acclaimed directors Donn A. Pennebaker and his wife/collaborator, Chris Hegedus - a quintessential cinema direct record of the grueling MOF pastry competition in Lyon, France. Third on the bill is 2008's Guy Martin: Portrait of a Grand Chef, directed by Lionel Boisseau - a profile of Martin, head of the acclaimed Parisian restaurant Le Grand Véfour. Finally, 2010's A Matter of Taste: Serving Up Guy Lebrandt, by director Sally Rowe, profiles the titular chef, a culinary master known for his outré kitchen creations, as he works to rebuild his career in the wake of September 11th.
