It works and has 8 outlets which is nice, and it includes protection for phone/DSL users, but this model is missing a lot of features from higher end models, so I feel you're giving up quite a lot to get the admittedly very cheap price on this unit. There's no Ethernet protection. There's no USB connection to your PC, so there's no way to have the computer know when it's running on battery power or to tell the PC how much battery power is left so that a soft shutdown or hibernation mode can be initiated automatically. It will just run until the battery is depleted and then suddenly power off in a potentially unsafe (for your data) way. The 450VA capacity is also very low which won't afford you much run time unless you have a very efficient computer or perhaps a laptop with its own internal battery. For only a little more money, you can have a 650VA solution that addresses all of these shortcomings. All that said, I think I'd probably recommend using this particular model for things like video game systems, TV's, radios, or laptops, but not for anyone looking for something for a desktop PC.

How many times has the power gone out, or had a rolling black out due to a storm? Think of all the times you had to wait for the internet to come back online, because your modem doesn't have a battery back up. That's what happened to me. I have an eero network and Spectrum cable's modem. It's easily the slowest boot up I've ever experienced (the modem I mean). To resolve it, I bought this on sale. It's the best decision I made. I have my main gateway eero, my Modem, and my landline hooked up. During the last major storm, my family enjoyed watching Netflix on an iPad while we waited for the power to come back on (power outage lasted about 5 min). This was thanks to my internet and wifi network still being up. There are smaller units sold for this purpose, but I liked this one for the added plugs (have a few other things using the surge plugs). Note: the battery backup has a sticker that says to charge it for 8 hours before you use it. I'd recommend you follow that guidance.

Buying a battery back up is simple, figure out what you want on uninterrupted power and Google how big of a battery you need for it to run for how long you would like. I would not recommend this for a computer system unless you are only looking for protection from short (ie seconds) power flickers. For your computer spend the extra money that let's you hook up a USB, these will initiate shut down on your computer when the battery gets low, incase your not home when the power goes out. This type of back up is great for networking, security systems (CCTV), or other small electronics that are more of an inconvenience if the power is interrupted or may be damaged by multiple successive short outages.

I purchased this unit (actually the second of this same model I have) to replace an APC unit that had a battery failure. I would have purchased a new battery for the APC Back UP ES 550 if they didn't cost almost more than this entire unit by CyberPower. The unit if very small and light, making me think the battery is going to be very small as well. It weighs significantly less than the other CyberPower 450 I have, reinforcing my belief. I wish the power button was on the side, next to the power cable and RJ-11 jacks instead of on the face with the plugs, as I now have the power button slightly covered by a plug due to the odd shape connectors found on most electronics these days. I do not use the software as I do not leave equipment turned on when unattended, but I have had power outages with these units in place and have had plenty of time to power things down- or leave running depending on what is still connected. My other units are 4 years old now, and have not needed battery replacement, hopefully this unit will be comparable.

We have a whole house generator but it doesn't switch on immediately, there is a delay of a few seconds. This means that my router, cable box and clock all lose power when we have an outage. That sucks because the router and cable box both take a few minutes to get back up and running, and the clock doesn't have a battery backup so it always resets to 12:00. I bought this UPS so that these devices would not lose power and need to recycle between the power going out and the generator kicking in. So far we've had no issues with the UPS but I can't really comment on how good it is until we lose power again. If I can update my review after we lose power then I will. Yeah, I could switch off power at the breaker box to test this, but I'm not going to. :)

I have my computer, monitor, printer and a few more things attached to this power brick and it's saved me a few times already. I go to college and am therefore constantly doing work on my computer. Work that, if a power outage where to happen and my computer shut down, I'd throw my monitor across the room and drop out of school. Fortunately, CyberPower has my back. I've lost power in my house a few times already and this thing saved me. It doesn't last super long after losing power, but long enough to save any unfinished work (or complete that quest you've been spending 30 min on in the Witcher). Did I mention it has 8 ports, 4 of which continue supplying power after an outage? All-in-all, this product is great.

UPS Keeps Things Up When Power Drops

I picked this UPS up because, quite frankly, it cost a bit less than the APC alternative. And, for what it is, the device works fine. However, as a long time APC owner, I have some reservations: 1) The battery doesn't appear to be accessible. It's plugged in from the get-go. 2) The battery is not replaceable. So, when this unit dies, you have to buy a whole new unit as opposed to a new battery. It seems that in the long run this could lead to a battery wearing down quicker and to a more expensive replacement. But, I typically just buy replacement UPS devices anyways so this isn't a huge problem. We've had several storms lately and the device has kept up the network media devices I plugged into it. I can't speak to its longevity, but for network devices it seems like a good fit.

I purchased this unit because I wanted a reasonably-priced surge protector/battery backup. This unit does not have a software interface for monitoring remaining charge, which I should have looked for. Had I realized that, I would have bought something else. I had three devices, a PC, a printer and a lamp plugged into it when my wife decided to plug the vacuum cleaner in as it was the nearest outlet.. When she turned on the vacuum cleaner, it created a power surge and all running devices shut off, including this Dell XPS I'm using. It did not want to power on after that but we figured out a way to get it back running. Everything remained running when a heavy lightning storm rolled through but I feel like we dodged a bullet. Spend a few extra dollars and go for a unit that is more robust.
