Ode to "Monstro"
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A serious computer, for those who want bragging rights. Some people buy fancy cars. Not me. The equivalent computer can be had for a minute fraction of what a boastworthy car would cost.. I create content, and want lots of room to store it. Ordinary folks could buy five or six nice machines for what this cost me. It was a pleasure to buy, and is a pleasure to own. Apparently the first one sold at my local Best Buy outlet. So I definitely have the meanest machine in any of the homes hereabouts.

Too much Hassle For 6K!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First computer i bought, I had shipped to my home. It had a faulty x99 motherboard that would not detect the third GPU. No big deal manufacturing defects happen. This took geek squad two weeks to discover( I had to slog my 6K computer to the store). Several weeks later the second arrives at the store so that i can have geek squad ensure it's functionality before pick-up. They OK the computer for pick-up. I get it home to find that the 3TB hard drive is not formatted and the 3 way SLI bridge wont link the third GPU. WTF did they even hook the thing up to check it. CYBERTRON are you even trying! Overall, for 6K This computer is just not worth the aggravation. For 6K I expect a smooth and FUNCTIONING product. No DIY.

alright
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought two of these for my sons and they ended up hating it! They said that 64gb memory was not enough and they needed more than 3tb. Probably going to go back and buy them some alienwares.

Q: QuestionWhat kind of memory is installed? Are they 4x16GB sticks or 8x8GB sticks? If it were the latter that would be disappointing cause all the DIMMs have to be replaced to add more memory to it.
Asked by Will.
- A:Answer Will, The Thallium X99 uses 8x8GB for the memory, and ships with the system's maximum memory capacity of 64GB.

Q: Questionwhat about the sound quality?
Asked by jjj.
- A:Answer The sound quality is actually quite good considering the compact nature of the whole set up. It has been more than sufficient for general use. If your looking to listen to music from your computer often you may want to upgrade.

Q: QuestionIs the RAM upgradable? 64 seems to be pretty low
Asked by PCwizrd.
- A:Answer Dropping some knowledge on ya all, if you want it Max memory speed is achieved by using all 8 slots and maxing them out with 8GB each. Motherboard chipsets use memory channels now a days and when the proper number of slots are filled per memory channel it access each channel as if it is a single memory stick. So you always want to match memory and fill the memory slots by the channel numbers indicated on the board, I.e. Memory Slots 0, 1, 2, 3, each are 2 slots and make up 8 sticks using 2 channel memory. If you are familiar with Raid for disk drives it would be like Raid 0 where 2 disk drives are seen as 1 big disk by the operating system and it is almost twice as fast reading and writing to the the single virtual disk drive because it really splits everything in two and reads and writes to both drives at the same time.

Q: QuestionHow come it costs so much?CPU=$1000 Can get 3 Samsung 1tb 850 pro ssd's for $460 a piece= $1380 64gb Ram= $345 (GSkill Ripjaw Z series) R9 390X (2 of them, Asus)= $800 1200 Watt Fully modular EVGA 80 plus platinum PS (you don't mention whats in yours)= $290 Motherboard=$450 (AsRock or Asus X99 2011v3) Which means from $6500 you have $2235 left over for a case, water cooling, Win 10, keyboard, and mouse and general stuff??? Huh????? Say what???????? After shopping can get those prices up there down too!! Again, how come it costs so much??????
Asked by Keeping it real.
- A:Answer I'm not sure we're looking at the same machine; the one I'm reading says it has 3 980 Ti graphics cards. In your setup you're also looking at an air cooled system; this one is liquid cooled. I didn't see (or missed) but that could be a customized for 3 graphics cards, cpu, and chipset. Ultimately you're always going to pay more for a boxed system; especially with this much hardware. Bottom line, if you think you can build it better for less doing it yourself, what's stopping you?
