A Switch worth Switching
Posted .So when you think of a switch, you think of a light switch, or at least I did. That is, until I bought the D-Link 5 port 10/100 eathernet switch. It came out of the box all shiney and new, and would't you know, I dropped it. Worried it might not work, i quickly plugged it in. Worked fine! I quickly connected my X-Box, Laptop, PC, and Wireless Router to it, and the speed was no different from when I plugged it in to the modem itself. The only drawback in speed happened when I used two all three of my products at once, but really, who does that? So overall, the speed, price, and of cource, durability, are amazing. Thanks D-Link. You've Done it again. -Colin G. Nebraska Geek Productions Manager

Economical solution
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendSolid and simple switch at a great, low price. We set it up in 5 minutes to interconnect home theater components (Blu-ray; big screen TV and X-Box 360) to our home network wireless router cable connected one floor up. My son believes there is a slight delay with the X-Box 360 interfacing when playing online.

D-Link 5-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI purchased a DGS-2205 hoping that the 5-port model would be as decent and efficient as the DGS-2208 (8-port model). I was wrong. The 5-port model emits high-pitch noises when any of the front panel LEDs are turned on or off. The noise is emit from the base unit itself and not the power supply. Safe to say some people won't be able to hear this noise, but it's quite noticeable to those of us who have sensitive hearing. I had Bestbuy send me a replacement unit, which had the exact same problem. Interestingly enough, the DGS-2208 uses the same power supply as the DGS-2205. Therefore, I'm left to believe there's a hardware engineering flaw in the 5-port model. Other than this problem, the unit seems functional. However, note that at least in the case of the DGS-2208, there are multiple versions (1st and 2nd revision) floating around.

Maybe I just don't understand how this works
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this to use in-front of my D Link DIR655 because I couldn't get streaming content through my Blue Ray player to my HDTV. I still wanted the wireless capacility of the DIR655 for my laptop, but figured if I hard wired the Blue Ray before it went through the DIR655, maybe all the firewall capabilities of the DIR655 woulud be bypassed and the streaming video would work. Well, I couldn't set a static IP address with this unit which both D Link and Samsung (Blue Ray) said I should have and the streaming video still wouldn't work. Since I was no better off than with the DIR655 alone. I returned this unit. I must say, Best Buy asked no questions on the return and credited my account very quickly.

Nice starter switch
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendIf your looking for a simple expansion of your home network, or even give yourself an extra port to connect a computer at work, this switch is a good little starter. Just plug in and go. I run one of these at work and it does the job letting me add two more computers (shhhhh) at my desk.

Switch easily extends your network
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis switch makes extending your network very easy. I was expecting to be able to add 5 additional ports to my network, but one of the ports is the inbound port and the rest are the outbound extension ports. I have not noticed any speed or heat issues. The only thing I don't like about it is that the network lights on the front of the switch are hard to see unless you look at it from the correct angle. Other than that, I would recommend it as a very good value for the price.

Good Home Network Ethernet Switch
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe D-Link 5-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch is a straight-forward device that is easy to install and works transparently to extend your home network. It seems to handle all five Ethernet ports with little to no degradation of speed. It does the job at a reasonable price.
