Synopsis

Dante's Peak
Old Smokey develops a bad temper in this volcanic disaster spectacle. Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan) is a volcano expert whose interest became more than academic after he lost the woman he loved in a volcanic emergency. When he is sent to investigate unusual seismic activity in the quiet Pacific Northwest community of Dante's Peak, he discovers people boiled to death in the local hot spring and plant and animal life dying or displaying unusual illnesses near the city's supposedly dormant volcano. Harry becomes convinced that a major volcanic catastrophe is in the cards. Rachel Wando (Linda Hamilton), the town's mayor, is a single mother who also runs the local cafe, and now that Dante's Peak has been named one of the most desirable small towns in America, tourists have been flocking to the diner and other local businesses. While concerned with the safety of her community, Rachel takes a cynical view of Harry's warnings about the volcano; she has no desire to alarm either the town's residents or the wealthy visitors lining the city's pockets. Nevertheless, Harry tries to convince Rachel of the potential danger, as they begin to develop feelings for each other that are not strictly professional. The summer of 1997 was a big season for killer volcanoes at the movies, as Dante's Peak and Volcano opened within a few months of each other. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This was a fun entertaining film that came out in the late '90's. I had this on DVD and was curious as to how good it would look on Blu-Ray so I decided to purchase it. I was surprised that the visual effects involving the volcanic eruptions looked as good as they do on Blu-ray for a film just over 20 years old. The DTS-HD audio also sounds great on my home theater system. The overall picture quality during the course of the movie also looks much better than the DVD. If you haven't seen the film, it's definitely worth picking up on blu-ray. I've watched this film many times and enjoy it each time I see it.

Great, great, great volcano movie!! So superior in all aspects to Tommy Lee Jones's "Volcano." You don't have to be an expert to understand the science involved, and the plot, acting and especially the special effects are superb! If you have even a limited knowledge of the Cascade Mountain Range, you could actually see this happening - particularly since with Mt. St. Helens, it sort of already has. Highly recommended - particularly on Blu-Ray - and a fantastic addition to anyone's movie collection!!

this was a very interesting movie when i first saw it, the whole concept of a volcano erupting and killing everyone, that right there makes a great story for a movie, some of the scenes were awsome, and some of them were ok, and some of them were not so good, but overall i thought the movie was very good for when it was made, i would recomend this movie to my friends because i think that it's very interesting to watch!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great special effects. Touching storyline. Owned it in VHS and finally got BluRay version. Conversion of sound was great for explosions, but not as good for dialogue. When both are occurring at same time, hard to hear the dialogue. Dialogue is clear but volume too low in comparison to background sound. Not a problem on VHS version. But an exciting volcano movie anyway!

I love everything Pierce Brosnan does. I love his acting and how he relates to the other characters in his films. In this movie I particularly like how he relates to the children and their mother in the scenes when they are trying to get out of town before the storm kills them all.

Pierce Brosnan Need I say more? Far fetched in the way events happened but awesome to think you can drive on lava, or drive a truck while it's on fire. :-) Either way a good flick, did I mention Pierce Brosnan?
