If data recovery is necessary, the drive will be shipped to the Data Recovery Division at Geek Squad City for a full forensic diagnostic of the drive and integrity of the data.
Actual recovery cost will vary depending on the condition of the data.
Receive Your Data
Recovered data will be returned in the original file/folder structure on separate good media when possible.

Beware
||Posted .They charged me to send off and then tell me it’s going to cost more to open and diagnose. They said they did not open it up actually they did open it up and possibly damage the retrieval of the information on it. Do not recommend sending anything off to get recovered from Best Buy

Not too happy
||Posted .I am kind of disappointed that they deemed my external hard drive unrecoverable because there is no water damage or any major broken pieces. the drive was kicked/slid across the floor. The control arm was not working properly so it couldn't read the discs. I don't understand how not a single thing was recovered. I'm definitely getting a second opinion. The Geek squad in the store told me that is would be no more than $600 and I paid $1940 something and he also told me it would not be that hard of a fix the way i described what was going on. then i get an email saying the complete opposite. Also a customer service rep said i made a reservation on the 10th to pick up the drive but nobody ever called me to let me know the drive was back at the store ready for pick up..

Could be better service but they made it right
||Posted .The cost wasn’t too bad but the process was wonky. I had to return to sign papers I had already signed in person and when they shipped the drive to their other facility, I was told I couldn’t send a back up drive with it because it could get lost. Huh? So a rep calls me asking to purchase a backup drive. They ultimately allowed me to send my drive I had purchased at Best Buy but it took some complaining.

To early to tell- still waiting for hard drive
||Posted .There was a bit of confusion about what I need to pay and so this slowed down the entire process. Once I was contacted I had to go back to the store and pay the difference they should have charged me to begin with. Then they had to contact the hard drive recovery department and let them know I paid. Then they would start the recovery process. It's been about 9 weeks that I have been without my information. I am hoping that once I receive my hard drive recovery I can be up and running again. On another note- everyone has been friendly and professional. Which helps under these stressful circumstances.

The Geek Squad's diagnostic accurate...pricing was
||Posted .The Geek Squad's diagnostic accurate...however, they had to ship my hard drive for data recovery. The data recovery pricing was out of this world. Had to make the sacrifice of loosing all of my stored pictures, documents & videos because I could not afford the cost for the Geek Squad to recover my data.

Lost Data
||Posted .My data recovery is still ongoing, hopefully it will be worked out and I won't be charged for what happened in the store.

Good response keeping me apprised of the repair
||Posted .Please remember we are not techy people. When you say 90% recovered, we think 90% of the files, not the space. That's a whole different message.

Q: QuestionCan you guys recover data from a broken usb drive ?
Asked by Sha.
- A:Answer Not sure about an USB, but I would be surprised if they couldn't. They just retrieved files and photos from my broken external hard drive - but it cost me $600.00 to do it and that included a discount because I have a Greek Squad Membership. And I was lucky they told me because I was at second level of being able to get the information retrieved before it had to go out to there engineer Department which at that point would have cost me $1,500. I had 10 years worth of pictures on that external hard drive they retrieved almost 8,000 pictures and other data. Will not let that happen again will replace external hard drives every five years as well as put photos on a thumb drive as well and that's what they recommend that you store valuable data and pictures on two separate devices

Q: QuestionCan you do a data recovery from an external storage "seagate"? My PC and Mac don't want to read it and I have a lot of data I don't want to lose.
Asked by Cristina.
- A:Answer Hi Christina. Thanks for your question! We absolutely can try a data recovery from you Seagate external hard drive. To do so, we will need another external storage device to try and pull the data to. So if you have another one laying around, we'll need that. Otherwise, you can purchase a new device. Q: QuestionAm I able to recover files? My Lenovo ThinkPad r400 will not get past the splash screen. I tried straightening the usb contacts (which has worked before) but it will not get past the initial splash screen. Am I able to use your services to extract my files from the internal hard drive and place them on an external hard drive (that I plan to purchase from Best Buy)???
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer This one will depend on the type of issue your PC has. If it was a nasty virus, all your files have the potential to contain a piece of the virus to reinfect the next PC. If it is just a bad OS (which a virus could do, or a bad block on the hard drive or shutdown) then you would need to get that repaired first then the virus removed if one was present. The USB drive was most likely a coincidence, unless you have an electrical short on your computer, which would be entirely aspect. This would also mean your motherboard has a chance at being damaged. Your data would be recoverable though.
