Dead Kennedys: Early Years Live [DVD] [1987]

This DVD features the Dead Kennedys' early San Francisco concert years (1979 to 1981) and proves that hardcore punk never really evolved much past the level to which the Dead Kennedys took it. The wild, pumped up music had nowhere else to go but back into the swamp of heavy metal excess that Jello Biafra and company so steadfastly avoided. The various concert clips are surprisingly well recorded and the DVD features a lyric subtitle option that allows viewers to screech along to such ditties as "Holiday in Cambodia" and "Kill the Poor."

Synopsis

Dead Kennedys: The Early Years Live
The Dead Kennedys: The Early Years Live collects choice moments from the seminal punk band's club dates from 1978-1981, showcasing frontman Jello Biafra's raw performance style. Most of the nine songs are highlights from their debut album Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, including the classics "Holiday in Cambodia," "California Uber Alles," and "Let's Lynch the Landlord." Running 30 minutes long, the rare concert footage is mostly grainy with bad audio, with some tracks recorded at Target Studios with no audience. The small California concert venues include Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco, Sproul Plaza in Berkeley, and some other undisclosed locations. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi
