Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is devastated when his wife (Elisabeth Shue) is killed and his daughter (Camila Morrone) is brutally attacked during a home invasion, and he decides to seek revenge on their assailants when the police prove unable to help. Kersey soon transforms himself into an armed vigilante who prowls the streets of his city, dividing the public as to whether he's a force for good or merely an unhinged killer. Different than the Charles Bronson version of the movie. I liked the changes that were made to this movie and it was better than what I expected after reading the reviews that other people had written about it.
Death Wish 2018 provides a new take on the original vigilante storyline that was portrayed well by Charles Bronson. The new film, while based on the original of many years ago, is smartly not a direct copy.
Bruce Willis is a natural in the part as he plays a medical doctor who loses his wife and almost loses his daughter. The contrast between a man who saves lives, on one hand, and the vigilante who takes lives is an interesting twist- almost like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. (The original Bronson character was an architect.)
The actors all play their parts well and the story keeps moving at a good pace. Also, this new Death Wish film is not as graphic as the original Charles Bronson one. All in all, I was very pleased with the film and highly recommend it- especially if you are a Death Wish and Bruce Willis fan as I am.
