Best value for basic office, media, & web surfing!
Posted .This is a great laptop for the price! The SPEAKERS ARE LOUD, and the screen is nice and bright! It also has all your current tech specs like HDMI, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, WIFI, a Memory Card Reader, and a Webcam. It also includes "essential" old tech like 10-key numberpad, A DVD/CD DISC DRIVE and a REMOVABLE BATTERY! This is all in a durable, hard plastic shell that is LESS THAN AN INCH thick! I appreciate this because I can throw it in my backpack and not worry about anything pressing down on the screen lid. The bottom of the computer does not get hot even on a high performance power plan. I recommend switching the power plan to HIGH PERFORMANCE in the Power Options which should fix any experienced lag if there are any (Battery life is great with the low power processor, so doing this will not affect run time too much). With High Performance, I can connect my TV through HDMI to watch a full 1080p Youtube video, while typing up this review on the main screen! I can't believe how far entry level MS Windows notebooks have come! Now they can do any basic task you throw at it! Let's be honest, the majority of people only use a computer for basic office work, watching videos, and web surfing anyway, and this computer can do it all perfectly! Note: Screen is only 1366 x 768. Perfect for most, but those requiring a 1080p screen, why are you even looking at this price point???

Purchased for a gift.
||Posted .I purchased this laptop as a gift to my nephew. He is heavy into gaming and has been satisfied with its performance. He is on it constantly. He has had to make some adjustments and purchase additional devices to make up for the small keyboard and lack of key ghosting features.

Excellent laptop under $180
Posted .Got this laptop in the doorbuster deal at bestbuy for $179.99. I feel this is the best laptop you can buy this price point. Its an entry level laptop but has all the basic features for everyday use. It even has two USB 3.0 ports and bluetooth, which are not common at this price. It came preinstalled with Windows 8 but I was able to ugrade to 8.1 easily (took 3 hours though). Also installed Pokki start menu as I am used to the classic menu. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Best value for its price!
Posted .I did research a week before the thanksgiving and set my heart on this $178 deal. Never think I'd be able to get it without putting much effort. So happy! It has been a few days and I'm loving this lap! really Cool look, really light compare to the HP I got 2 yes ago. Easy to use... PS, I use this lap for basic internet suffering and easy work stuff, no 3D video game etc... So I'm very happy with it so far!!! :)

Affordable, lightweight & sturdy. Windows 8 meh:-/
||Posted .I was impressed with the weight and the sturdiness since purchase price was only $185 after tax on Black Friday and using Best Buy Rewards. I purchased the laptop to transfer files from my Windows 7 Toshiba brand laptop. Most work files require IE, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased. I am really impressed with the Black Friday price ($177), weight, sturdiness and standard bluetooth option without having to use a bluetooth dongle. I wasn't impressed with Windows 8. It was too tedious at first and slower than my 4 year old Windows 7 operating system. The concept looks good on paper until you learn that apps take up hard drive space on the computer somewhat like bloatware on an American android smartphone. I find myself tossing the Dell to the side to pick up my Toshiba. Use of the touchpad is not so great with carpal tunnel syndrome. Windows 8 works a lot better after adding a mouse. I wasn't impressed with being forced to offer up my e-mail address or being forced to create a new one to be able to download any Windows apps like Google forces you to on an android smartphone. But the fact that Windows Media Center did not come standard on Windows 8 was most annoying. I thought I finally freed myself from Direct TV after being a loyal customer for 15 years by deciding to use my HD Homerun TV tuner attached to my router plus using Netflix and HuluPlus. No one watched that much television in my household anyway. I was paying a 3 digit bill just to throw away money. Without Windows Media Center standard, I learned that I have to either create an additional account on my daughter's XBox 360 and hold it hostage or purchase Windows 8 pro for an additional $100 plus buy an upgraded HD Homerun prime TV tuner for another $100 to be able to enjoy free-to-air HDTV on all my devices attached to my network. Windows 8.1 is offered as a free upgrade but I'd still have to buy Windows 8.1 pro and another TV tuner. The apps that Windows offer aren't the greatest. You find more features than the apps by just visiting websites. Closing apps is frustrating. Couldn't figure out how to close the camera app initially...even after dragging the app down and repeatedly pressing F4. Found the app peaking at me in the upper left hand corner for a while until I repeatedly pressed F4. I still find myself tossing the Dell laptop to the side to use my Toshiba...like now. It's not the laptop that's frustrating. It's Windows 8 operating system but would I recommend this to a friend? Yes! For the great Black Friday price of $177 plus tax. Not a penny more unless Windows 7 is installed.

Just OK
||Posted .This is definitely an entry level computer. It is my first window 8 computer. I am not a fan of windows 8 and think that it is not at user friendly as other windows programs. The computer seems so at times to me. Especially while logging in. The touch pad is sensitive especially when switching from desktop to the start menu. It sometimes changes you for no reason. Other than that the screen is great. It is the perfect size. It is not heavy or bulky. I would recommend to a friend.

Q: QuestionIs this a good computer that can run League of Legends? And if so is it fast?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer It will not run games well unless they are simple games through your web browser such as Minecraft or the games you play through Facebook. Any games that rely on 3D video processing such as League of Legends will not run well. A very similar notebook was reviewed here (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-V5-131-10172G50akk-Notebook.102564.0.html) Of the laptops on sale for Black Friday 2013, I recommend at least the Acer listed below to run games at their lowest quality settings or the HP 17-e019dx laptop.
