SLOW and constantly crashes waste of money

Don't be lured in by the low price and large screen size! This is a worthless computer. I'm not sure which ones all these people with positive reviews got, but I got a lemon then. From day one it didn't work well, so I deleted all the useless apps it came bloated with and unpinned everything off the start menu and barely had a file saved on it and it still ran terribly slow and crashed often so I called Dell Tech support and this is nothing against tech support centers being out of the country, but I could barely understand the person I was speaking with because of their accent and a terrible phone connection. After he had me run the diagnostic tests (Support Assistant) which I'd already done myself, he concluded the computer was running fine. That may be "fine" for Dell, but even the most reasonable person would find the speed and crashing problems of this computer unacceptable, so save your money as you'll just be wasting it on this one. Unfortunately I made the mistake and can't return it because I moved to an island where there is no Best Buy and shipping it back would cost probably as much as the computer is worth. Should have bought a HP and spent the extra money and gotten a computer I could trust and rely on.

    Slow!!!

I bought this laptop in anticipation to starting school again soon, being that my other Dell Inspiron is 9 years old and it's a miracle that it still somewhat works. However, this Dell Inspiron sucks! I've had it less than a week and it's extremely slow. Web pages load slowly, downloads take forever, switching between tabs on the browser is slow, opening any kind of folder or file is slow...it's like everything is on a delay, which is maddening being that the whole purpose of me buying a new laptop was because my old one is old and also incredibly slow...and just out of nowhere while watching a video on Facebook, the whole laptop just shut down for no reason and said that "Windows has trouble restarting" Like seriously, Dell?! It's a brand new laptop!!! I'm so glad that school hasn't started for me yet because had I been in the middle of doing an assignment during this sudden shutdown, I would've been quite upset. I've used this laptop maybe 3 times in less than 7 days; it's not worth the trouble. I'm angry, and I'm taking it back.

    Great Notebook for the $$$

I read all these reviews on this computer (most of them are from non-owners/non-verified purchasers) and found them to be a little cruel. This is a CHEAP notebook made for basic tasks. However, it is a great machine if you are willing to do a few upgrades. With a Solid-State hard drive and 12-16GB of memory added, it runs pretty good. The Bluetooth/WiFi work well, it is easy to type on, the display is good for this price, and it is fairly light. Plue, you get a DVD burner and a SD card reader as well. This is a lot of computer for the dollar, so spend the bucks with Geek Squad and have it upgraded and you have a very usable 'student notebook'. I upgraded mine to a 500GB Solid State hard drive and 12GB of memory and it runs great. Remember that this is an AMD dual-core processor (not a gamer by any means). Be sure to make a 'System Image' before you change the drives and you can reload it back to factory. Now I have a great 'travel laptop' to use and if I lose it, I am not out a ton of money. Dell did a good job on this one.

i looked at best buy information on computers online. then went to the store and spoke with a man at customer service who advised what computers were available and their cost. i chose an inexpensive model for the first time computer for my brother. i wanted a laptop he could use in his bedroom upstairs. i just discovered that you can watch dvd movies on it. i believe this will be a good computer for someone to start out with. i hope anyway.i was told it does not have much storage capacity. so you can't download a lot of stuff. the store customer service department was an excellent place to obtain product information without a sales pitch for one type of computer over another. i personaly use a desktop computer. i have enjoyed what time i have spent using this laptop computer so far. good clear picture. easy to adjust volume. i wanted to start out with an easy to use computer for my brother's first computer. i opted to not go with the office program that comes with this computer and that knocked off $50 from it's price.

    Big mistake buying this one

I've always had good luck with Dell laptops in the past so I thought this would be a good one. Two days after taking it out of the box, and using it a total of 3 hours, it started having issues. It would not boot, giving me an error message. Then it tried to repair itself but said the automated repair could not fix the issue. I wound up having to restore to an earlier point. That worked the first THREE times it did this, but tonight even the restore failed. So I am sitting here with what amounts to a $250 paperweight. After a whole three hours of use. What a piece of junk. Not to mention the fact that it is terribly slow, slower than any other laptop I've ever owned, and every time I touch the mousepad, the text on the screen changes size.

      Hello Kimberly,

We appreciate your feedback on your Dell laptop and we're sorry that it's not working the way you'd like it to. Here are some tips to help with the responsiveness of your touchpad:

Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:

      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window. 10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

If you'd like to diagnose the slowness on your computer you can run the Windows Performance Troubleshooter by following these steps:

      1. Close all open windows.
      2. Press the Windows logo key + X key on the keyboard.
      3. Click Control Panel.
      4. Click System and Security.
      5. Under Security and Maintenance, select Troubleshoot common problems.
      6. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.
      7. Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the process.
      8. Restart the PC.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tSulGV.

We hope these tips help your computer run the way you'd like it to.

    Not a good computer

    Posted
    BadProduct

I went through the set up and got online right away. This computer ran slow as my computer from 25 years ago on dial up. After the first time online, I could not even get online. I only need a computer to get online while traveling and this did not even meet those meager needs. I took it back to the Rapid City store and exchanged it for a HP. It cost $170 more but it runs 1,000 times better. Spend a little bit more money and get a better computer. I have two Dell towers for my home computer and have not had problems. This is not a product that will meet anyone's needs.

I purchased 2 of the laptops for employee's to do basic excel spread sheets and to be able to send and receive emails. Before purchasing I explained to the store rep what I was looking for he assured me they would be very good computers for what I needed. If you are wanting to do anything on the internet do not purchase this laptop! How ever if you just want to use it for spread sheets and stuff like that then yes it will work. It is a little slower than i expected when opening up excel or anything for that matter. I would recommend you save your money and get a slightly better computer. Lesson learned here.

I've always preferred DELL computers. When I was employed, my company, the premier stock exchange in the U.S., always purchased this brand. My home office PC was a DELL as well. When I decided to upgrade, I didn't think I'd find a laptop within my budget, as I'm now retired. Best Buy had this one, plus it was on sale! Handles all my personal needs and my granddaughter used to prepare a school report. Now, she's trying to convince her parents to trade in the laptop she has, for this DELL model. I hope they do, it's a great piece of equipment!
