Awesome for business/school
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop is amazing! It works like it's used to, the videocard is quite okay for games. (Warframe runs fluently for example). What i dislike is that when you put it on tabletmode and you put it on your lap, that the keys stick out so everything can come inside the keys, what will mess up your keyboard probably... the advantage is that you can use it as a stand to in tablet mode, so i'm reallyyy happy in general with this product. You can dream of a laptop with this capabilities for this price in my opinion

Good computer, but get the geek squad warranty
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After spilling tea on my old Dell XPS laptop during the dissertation proposal writing stage of my graduate program, I needed to get a laptop as soon as possible. I bought this computer because it was the best option at my local bestbuy with an i7 core. This was the first time purchasing a computer from a local store rather than customizing one on the Dell website. Right at the start, there was something wrong with the video/graphics card. A video scheduling error kept showing up and automatically restarting my computer. The Salisbury, MD geek squad was great at trying to trouble shoot the error, but had no luck in fixing it permanently. Within two weeks of purchase, I exchanged it for the exact same computer, thinking maybe the card itself was damaged. The exchange process was quick and painless. So far, this computer is functioning great with no crashes and restarting from errors! The geek squad warranty is definitely recommended when purchasing this computer because of the potential software errors and Bestbuy's short return policy. Overall, Dell still makes a good product, but I think Windows 10 needs some updates and fixes.

Power packed desktop replacement
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a stunningly beautiful and power packed versatile laptop that can easily replace your desktop PC. Its solid-feeling hinges and overall polished and tight-fitting design puts Dell in a whole new category. I set out to purchase a traditional laptop in the $400 - $600 price range and was instantly attracted to this feature rich unit. The closer for me was the $845 sale price and I used the savings to load it up with MS Office Home and Student. While I did go over what I set out to spend, I feel that the specs for this 2 in 1 (laptop/tablet), for how I use it, will easily get me through the next five years. My only complaints are that it only has two USB ports but nothing a USB hub can't fix. For this reason I purchased a wireless keyboard and mouse combo for when I choose to use it as a desktop PC replacement. I also wish it had a DVD/CD reader/writer but most laptops don't come with one anymore. Granted, I would rarely use it anyway but it would have been convenient to have it for playing my old DVDs/CDs and burning discs for my old truck's CD player. An inexpensive external USB powered unit would do the trick. Given the size of this machine, while completely portable with decent battery life, I wouldn't make it a routine to travel with it. The occasional room to room or home to office or buddy's house should be fine. The speakers are ok but as with most laptops, the sound is relatively flat. Hooking up any USB or wall outlet powered speakers will produce much better sound. Tablet mode works nicely but its sheer size and weight make it a bit unwieldy to hold comfortably for long periods, unless you're a very strong big-handed person. Truthfully, this unit is overkill for how it's mainly used in our household but it's great to have the power and features to tackle multiple tasks, online and offline, without slowing it down. Gamers especially would appreciate the graphics card with separate RAM.

Excellent machine for price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this at the store on sale. Great machine for the price. 1 drawback is there is no optical drive, and limited USB (1x2.0, 1x3.0, 1x C-type). However, I already have an external BD/DVD-rw drive, and purchased a ChillPad with USB ports, so this isn't a problem for me. Upon looking into the technical details, it lists only an Nvidia 940 MX, but in fact also has an Intel HD 520 graphics adapter. The 1TB HDD and 12Gb DDR4 RAM make this a powerhouse for a "non-gaming" laptop. As this is a "non-gaming" geared laptop, I was highly surprised to see that it ran great, and smooth when I tried to play WoW on it. The graphics are running on Medium-High settings, and runs smooth, with no video lag. It has dedicated 2Gb GDDR5 RAM. The 6th-gen Intel Core i7 acts like a quad-core processor. Needless to say, this PC is capable of anything you throw at it, without being a gaming rig. The touch-screen is very responsive and has a 10-point touch capacity, which allows you to type onscreen as if it were a traditional keyboard without having to wait for each letter to appear (like most phone touchscreens do). The touchpad mouse is also a multitouch capacitve surface allowing the same controls as the touchscreen itself. It supports up to at least 5-finger gestures, although most will only use 3 at most. This is definitely not an Alienware, but it does a comparable job for 1/3 the price. Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a new machine on a budget. I will soon be purchasing a second one for my wife, if the sale holds out for 2 more weeks. A little about me: I was born and raised around computers. My first setup was a Commodore VIC-20 and a Commodore64. I love technology, and I love to have the best. I am sad that at present I cant afford the Alienware rig that I want, customized with the best top technologies at this time, but this will definitely suffice until I can. I am a truck driver driving over the road and spend little time at home. This is definitely a great machine to have to allow me to do everything from entertainment (movies, games, etc), keeping track of my business income/expenses, to keeping in touch with family via Skype.

Great 2 in 1
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this mainly as a mobile backup to my desktop pc. I refuse to purchase a laptop that doesn't have dedicated graphics and this was literally the cheapest 17" with it. So far I have only really used it for web browsing and music streaming (speakers aren't that great so I use external speakers), however I am interested in some basic graphics design utilizing the touchscreen. I Intend to install a few games soon to test out how it does with Sims4 and a few different MMORPG's but again, only as a backup to my self built gaming desktop pc. I don't know, maybe I'll be surprised by it's performance. The first thing that I see go bad on laptops is the hinges and this one seems very sturdy, especially since it is designed to fold fully open back on itself to use like a tablet. Although I am a HUGE fan of white, this laptop is like a brushed aluminum and looks very high quality. The edges of the screen and base have a gritty texture to them, I suppose to help with stability when propping it open like a tent. Overall, if you are looking for a 2 in 1 that is the larger screen size, this is definitely worth the money.

Great quality laptop with numeric keypad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed to replace my 8 year-old HP laptop with Windows XP operating system because it took 45 minutes to boot up. I only considered laptops with numeric keypads for faster number crunching, which limited my choices greatly. Dell - Inspiron 2-in-1 17.3 boots up instantly and comes with Windows 10. I haven't yet decided whether I"ll upgrade to Windows 10 Pro or not, which would allow me to sync my laptop with my PC to retrieve all my files. I purchased and installed (Samsung) 850 EVO 500GB Internal Serial ATA Solid State Drive at the time of purchase, at the urging of my husband. I don't use it every day, but I love the convenience of being able to use a laptop while watching TV, using it to retrieve exercise routines and cooking recipes in the kitchen, etc. I've had it 3 months now and am very pleased with my purchase. I love the touch screen for faster scrolling and for zooming in. The only thing I can't seem to get used to is the rigid metal right click of the mouse. Sometimes I can't seem to cut and paste in Word, or I accidentally zoom in too large on web pages. I wish it came with a DVD/CD drive. I had to purchase an external DVD drive separately. Be mindful, it only comes with 1 USB port,on each side, so it requires an additional extension cable to connect the external drive. The perfect laptop for me would have come with Solid State Drive, numeric keypad and DVD drive, but of course that would have been way out of my price range. I got a tremendous value for my money buy purchasing during the back to school sales. It is a bit heavy and longer than many laptops due to the numeric keypad, but I don't take it out of the house, so that was not an issue for me. The hinge for flipping it in a "V" shape is very sturdy and I love the brushed metal casing. Nothing is plastic. It's built to last, and as I said in the beginning, it boots up instantly.

Great Laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love that it has the touchscreen and tablet capability, not sure how often I will use as a tablet but nice feature to have. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is the mouse, It doesn't function as well as my old laptop and I don't really want to use another mouse so dealing with it as it is. It will work fine then will kind of lock up so you have to move the cursor off where you are trying to click then go back on and it will work. I've gotten to using the touchscreen more than the mouse. All in all it's a great laptop and would recommend.

Good Laptop for the money, BUT
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop because I do video editing and need more processor speed and ram than I had. With the I7 chip and 12 gb ram I can do multi camera editing no problem. The 1 tb installed hard drive is slow thus the 4 stars. I added a Samsung 500 gb SSD in the extra slot provided in the laptop and cloned drive C: to it using Samsung software. Now it is much faster. I use the old 1TB HHD for media storage. I like the large 17.3 inch screen for time line editing, easier on my eyes. The power switch is in a very bad location lower right corner so if you move the unit on your lap it is easy to turn off. Overall I like the Laptop, but with out adding the SSD it was so slow booting and loading programs I was disappointed with it. You have to spend an extra $100 to get the loading and booting speed I like. Pros: Large screen, Speed now with Samsung SSD, Fast I7 processor and ram Cons: Power switch placement, very slow HHD , Spent Extra money for SSD

Q: QuestionCan the back cover be opened for upgrades? what is accessible / upgradable? drive? memory?
Asked by Alchemist.
- A:Answer Yes. The back cover comes off just like most of the Dell laptops. You can replace the HDD with and SDD and there is also a slot for those MMC drives. So you can add 2 drives. There are 2 memory slots. The 12GB has a 4GB and 8GB. I have the 17.3. It may be different for the other sizes. Some nice improvements are the ghost screen seems now a thing of the past but didnt really affect the Inspiron series. The top and bottom covers are both metal. You can press on the back of the screen and you will see NO movement on the front of the screen. You can open and close the screen from the corners and see no screen artifacts and little flex in the cover. The keyboard tray is also metal. The mouse may need some getting use to. I liked the on the HP Spectre the best. Waiting to see if this one has an active digitizer.

Q: QuestionWhat is the battery life on this laptop? What size MaH battery comes with this laptop? Also can i replace the battery myself when needed or does it have to taken to the Geek Squad?
Asked by kauz.
- A:Answer You will see about ~7 hours in normal use, but note that battery life does depend on how you are using the laptop. For example Google Chrome will drain your battery much faster than MSFT Edge or Opera. The battery is 56 wHr, 4 cell battery per Dell's website

Q: QuestionCan you upgrade to or add an internal CD/DVD driver?
Asked by SeriousReader18.
- A:Answer No its way too tight in there because of the slim design. I would opt for an external Blu-Ray writer anyways. I just purchased an ASUS one for $72 with tax, minus a $20 MIR. Not bad for USB 3.0, External Blu-Ray Writer

Q: QuestionHi, What SDD would I be able to buy for this laptop. if so can Anyone recommend a 256gb for this laptop? Can I have a SDD and still have the same HDD? Thanks !!
Asked by Simmz.
- A:Answer You can place an SSD drive on it but it only has one space for it. I placed a Samsung Evo Pro 512gb SSD on it and it runs fast. It also has an M2 SSD slot for additional storage or use it as a boot drive.
