    A very nice general-purpose monitor

    Posted

Overall, I am very pleased with the Dell S2718HN, which I am using as a general purpose monitor for my home computer. The 27-inch size is a nice upgrade from my old 23-inch monitor. The narrow bezel doesn't waste space on my desk, and the stand is attractive and seems reasonably sturdy. The small control buttons on the bottom edge of the bezel are unobtrusive, and they are physical buttons, which I prefer to touch controls. The monitor also comes with Windows software that allows using a mouse to access monitor settings instead. The IPS panel provides a much wider viewing angle than my previous monitor did. It has an 8-bit panel, which covers 99% of the sRGB color space, the standard color space for Windows, without relying on FRC (frame rate control) for dithering. I may never use the AMD Free-Sync feature, but casual gamers should appreciate it. I look forward to trying out the HDMI 2.0 port and Dell HDR to watch UHD movies with HDR10 some day. Sure, this is only a 1080p screen and sRGB isn't comparable to DCI-P3 or Rec 2020, but it will give me a taste of what real HDR is like at a price I can afford. In the mean time, Blu-ray movies should look better than ever. These were not drawbacks for me, although others may feel differently: The stand only offers a tilt adjustment, and there are no holes provided to attach a VESA mount for a third-party stand or monitor arm. Those needing better ergonomics and those needing to use their monitor in portrait position, should buy something else. This monitor has no built-in speakers, so those who like this monitor in other respects and but need built-in speakers may want to look at the Dell S2718H instead. Finally, this is a general purpose monitor. It isn't intended for serious gaming -- a higher refresh rate is needed for that. ...and it isn't a good choice for advanced photography and color grading video either -- for those tasks a 10-bit (or 8-bit + FRC) panel to allow the use of more (and larger) color spaces is preferable. ...but good monitors with a 10-bit (or 8-bit + FRC) panel are uncommon at this price point, and most are 1920x1200 or higher resolution.

    PIXELATED

I got this monitor to use with my 2015 Macbook Pro and I was extremely disappointed. The first reason being that there was a huge hole punched right through the box where the front of the display was laying. It was shipped in the product box alone. The second reason being that I can see the pixel grid in the display. I can literally see each pixel that makes up the lines of the text or of an image. The text is very pixelated as well as everything else. It is not crisp nor sharp what so ever. I am extremely disappointed and let down by the poor quality of this display.

Beautiful monitor for work AND games!

This is a very beautiful monitor that I use for both work and for playing video games. It's important to note that even though this screen is advertised as "antiglare" it is still a "glossy" screen, so it's still not as good as traditional "matte" screens when blocking off light/glares. However, it gets bright enough to see through any glares, and I still use it with the curtains open during the day all the time. One other thing I love about this monitor is the many settings and presets that it comes with. I use the "ComfortView" setting when I'm working, and I use the Standard setting when I'm gaming. Of course these settings are still customizable. Awesome, beautiful monitor!

    Fairly decent

From a looks perspective, this monitor is very sleek and appears to take up much less space than some of the other 27" monitors out there. As soon as I plugged it in I realized it didn't have nearly the crisp colors the HP Z27n has, which I had bought and returned as I didn't think I needed the extra resolution. This is unfortunate because I really like the looks of the Dell otherwise. From an ergonomics perspective, this monitor leaves something to be desired as it only tilts but doesn't raise up or down. Compared to the HP, I felt like I had to look down because of the height of my (fairly standard) desk. This might be an issue for others too. I might end up going back to the HP, even though it's more expensive.

We needed a monitor for our home office. This one was on sale and was in the store, so although I might have preferred a higher resolution, the price was hard to beat for a 27-inch monitor. I already had a Dell Computer, so it was compatible with the VGA and HDMI ports. I had no trouble with the VGA hook-up, but the HDMI showed no signal. Only after connecting the VGA, installing the accompanying software drivers, disconnecting the VGA, and rebooting with the HDMI cable connected did it find the HDMI signal. Otherwise, it works fine. I like the wide 27" screen more than I thought I would.

I was in the market for a monitor and decided to go with this one because of the build mainly. It is well built and does not feel or look cheap. Even better it is reasonably priced. I really like the picture quality and the tiny bezels this give your work space a clean minimal look. I really really like the base, it gives it this sort of modern look. I use this mainly for gaming on the ps4 or nintendo switch so i dont really care that it is not 4k. Everything looks great on it. Hooking this up to my laptop is great since it is 27 inches and i have plenty of room to get my work done.

If it weren't for the excellent customer service and expertise from the Best Buy associates I would never have bought this Dell monitor solely because I always thought of them as a cheap product that only public schools and corporations used to save money and get the job done. But I have to admit that I was wrong with my perception and this monitor is just as good as Samsung but more affordable! I cannot find one thing wrong with this monitor. If you buy this you won't be sorry!

I didn't read reviews beforehand, but we've had Dell PCs with Dell monitors for a number of years and never had any issues. It's a beautiful monitor, great resolution and I didn't have to do any customization of the settings. I also like the "infiniity edge", now that I look at other monitors (such as my PC at work) it looks like they have a frame around screen, this is so much nicer. I like it a lot!
