Horrible purchasePosted .
To anyone considering purchasing this laptop please read the reviews for all the different exterior colors offered in this model, because I should have. I purchased this from bestbuy.com. The first day I received it everything seemed to work fine. The second day I booted it up and got the blue screen. Windows could not repair itself and I had to do a system restore and lost a lot of installs I made and some factory installs were missing. I reinstalled some software and tried to restart it, but got the blue screen again, then the grey screen. The thing would not boot up anymore after a dozen attempts. I took it back to my local Best Buy and a Geek Squad tech looked at it. It booted no problem for her and she could find no record of blue screen errors on the systems log. I was there for an hour and a half while they did other diagnostics that showed it was fine that they would not refund it. Before I left the counter I restarted it and got the blue screen again. I showed it to her and she could not reboot it after several attempts so they refunded my purchase (even though it was two days past their grace period-Thank you, Best Buy). Dell should be ashamed to still sell these. I will take my chances with another brand or save a couple more months and buy a Mac.No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good computer, once you fix the Blue Screen issuePosted .
I purchased this Laptop for my girlfriend. She is a few states away so most of our nights are spent on the webcam chatting. Also, she needed a DVD player so I wanted a computer with a larger screen. She loved the design and the comfort of the keyboard. I thought it was a powerful enough computer for the price. I installed Vista Word and Ad-Aware and then did the Windows update. After reboot, I got the blue screen of death. I thought about what I had recently installed and what was already installed on the computer. The computer comes with a security software program and Microsoft Works. Since I had installed two programs that compete with both of the pre-installs, I loaded into safe-mode and uninstalled Ad-Aware and Works. It booked up just fine and no problems since. Don't know if this is just a coincidence or if there is some conflict between Word and Works and/or Ad-Aware and the preinstalled security software.I would recommend this to a friend

Do not purchase this computer!Posted .
Do NOT buy this computer! I have owned this model for only 2 months and got the dreaded blue screen error upon start up. After many attempts to repair I restored the system to the original factory condition, which fixed the start up error, but left me unable to install software of any kind. After spending over an hour with Dell tech support I was told that it was not a hardware issue covered under warranty, therefore I would need to contact Dell On-Call which is a fee-based service. I spent $129 and three hours on the phone with a support person who was unable to figure out the problem. He promised to research the problem and call me back in one hour, which he did not. I contacted Dell the next day and was told that they would contact me within four business days. It has been one week and still no call from Dell. I am unable to use my computer because I cannot install any programs. This was my first and last Dell product. No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Cross Your Fingers and Hope it StartsPosted .
Out of the box I got an error message “Windows encountered a problem and shut down to avoid further damage”. On the THIRD restart Windows booted. Other issue started occurring within several days and Dell recommended that I download and update the drivers from the web site. I did this and the computer would not restart Windows Vista after updating it with the Dell specified drivers for my system and computer. It took 3 hours with a tech to get it to reboot. Additional Issues include: bad drivers for the CD/DVD, Windows Vista will not boot 2 out of 3 times, must restart to eject CD/DVD, Touch controls on the key board stopped working after one week. Dell’s tech could not fix these problems and Recommended I return the computer. Dell customer service refused to return it because it was ONE day past their return policy date. I was told “I don’t care if it was 30 seconds past 21 days the computer is your problem now” and disconnected the call. Never in my life have I experience customer service this poor and disrespectful. To date I have invested more than ten hours trying to get the computer to work correctly and reliably. Overall you get a lot of computer processor power for little cash, but don’t expect it to work flawlessly or expect any type of prompt, competent customer service. No, I would not recommend this to a friend

DO NOT BUY!!Posted .
Stop and read this comment before throwing away $600!! This laptop comes equipped with all the bells and whistles but save yourself the money and headache!! Like the other reviewer listed on here who had problems with blue screens and the laptop not starting up...I fall under that same category. I received this laptop and the first day it worked fine. Second and Third day it worked fine...fourth day it didnt work at all...blue screen/grey (repair mode) happened. After the repair mode/start took place laptop seemed to work fine. Next day, I went to turn it on and blue screen/grey screen AGAIN!! I went to repair mode and it hung out there for 40+ mins and never completed. I went to hit the CANCEL button and it wouldn't allow me to cancel(why the heck offer a cancel button!) anyway, I finally got frustrated and tired and shut it off! Haven't started it back up...I personally don't have the time or energy to put forth in a brand new laptop!! GRRR!!! I plan on calling Best Buy tonight after work and finding out what needs to be done...? I haven;t even owned this for a week!!! Take my advice and buy something else!!!!!No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Always go online and install vista updates FIRST!Posted .
This is the 3rd Dell I have purchased in last 4 months... And the 6th with Vista... I buy for business & family... I have learned that the minute you turn on a new Vista computer and before doing anything else.... you must go online to "Windows Update"! Do the "high priorty" updates and then keep doing it until it tells you there are no more updates! Then go ahead and load your programs. Set your settings! This has saved me many, many hours of monkeying with last 5 Vista computers! I was told that old 32 bit MS Office would not install or if it did, it would not run on 64 bit Vista... It runs fine for me! Bought this for my Son for graduation and though he has only had it a week.... He has loaded a ton of different types of entertainment and productivity programs and files already. No "blue screens" I feel confident it will serve fine! He is a very big football player and weight was not an issue. Larger keyboard a must! At clearance price of 619.00 it is ideal for us!I would recommend this to a friend

Worst computer ever.Posted .
This is absolutely the worst purchase I have ever made. I got this computer about a year ago, brand new. Within five months it had to be sent off to have the entire motherboard replaced, and the LCD screen had to replaced. When I got it back the case around the screen broke (it was not dropped or anything.) The screen goes out every 2-4 hours after the LCD screen was just replaced not too long ago, the mouse skips around and gets stuck most of the time, my webcam completely stopped working, as did the cd/dvd burner, and the CD drive will "eat" my cds. It will take them in and it will not release them until i restart. I would NEVER buy this computer again, or even a computer from Dell for that matter. Do not waste your money! No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pulling My Hair OutPosted .
The problems I have had with this computer over the last 6 months have had me ripping my hair out. First it started with the inability to install and waking up after I had put it to sleep. Now after numerous system restores, dumping my computer and eliminating programs one by one, my computer's problems are only getting worse. Luckily, I no longer have a problem putting my computer to sleep. The problem now lays in getting it to turn back on. After shut down, hibernate and sometimes after sleeping I spend about an hour trying to get the thing to turn back on! After reading numerous reviews from people with similar issues I am greatly regretting ever having anything to do with Dell. No, I would not recommend this to a friend
