The DeLonghi stainless steel espresso machine appears to be well-constructed in comparison to others in this class, which is not surprising as it's rather more expensive than most others in its class. In operation, it works exactly as you would expect of these machines, and it has the quietest pump I have ever owned. It also has a feature that's become increasingly rare in this group: It can dispense hot water from its steam tube for making tea or cafe americanos. ON THE OTHER HAND: The first thing I do with any machine like this is to see if I can pull the plastic frothing attachment off the steam tube (I can), because frothing attachments produce stiff, sudsy foam that's acceptable only if you don't know what a good microfoam is or how to make one. But the end of the steam tube is also plastic -- which is OK, but the tip is pointy, making a microfoam surprisingly near impossible to achieve. So I mostly make lattes. But that plastic tip is ALSO removable for cleaning, an especially welcome feature. Although you can dispense hot water through the steam tube, you have to open the steam valve AND press the "brew" button (the order doesn't matter); I once had a machine that could figure out that if I opened the valve WITHOUT the "steam" button pressed, I wanted hot water. The microfilter insert screens are multipart units with crema enhancers, which I'm not enthusiastic about. But they disassemble completely for cleaning, which is nice. They drop right in the portafilter with no friction to hold them. There's a lever neatly tucked into the portafilter handle to hold the insert in place while dumping out the puck, but it hardly works AT ALL. So I just dump the insert into a saucer, and when it cools I try to shake out the puck; accidents are just begging to happen. It's very easy to see how much water you have in the clear plastic tank, but if you want to remove it to fill it, there are two tubes sticking down into it that you'll have to relocate in place when you put the tank back. But if you fill it with a pitcher or bottle like I do, you'll find pulling the tank partway out like a drawer is VERY convenient -- and besides, there's no check valve to start leaking if it gets used too often. Only time will tell if the DeLonghi is as sturdy as it looks, or if its minor issues prove too much to put up with. But if it does last, it's money well-spent, because it performs well.

Well....for the money you've spend that is what you get. Purchased the machine in February 2013 In June there was not enough pressure to make the espresso. Called the Delonghi warranty support and they gave me a case number and phone in Texas to call and schedule a free repair - here is the trick....the shipping there and back I have to pay out of pocket...soo....that will be around 50.00 each time...dos it look logical to do it? you do the math... I would not recomend that product if you are really espresso lover and you do 9-10 espresso coffes a day. If you do that do not go with cheap model as such you will be ending with no working machine in 4-5 months

This Delonghi Espresso maker is a nice little machine for the price. Attractive simple design & easy to use. Makes a nice pumped espresso quickly and with a nice creama finish (although I wish it was the finished product was a litttle hotter). The only drawbacks: 1. The water container is small - you'll refill it often. 2. The steam wand is lacking in force - I have found it is better & easy to get your milk steamed/frothed if you take off the large plastic cover that comes with and just use the wand extension inside that cover

This is a wonderful espresso machine which is easy to use and maintain. It does take a few practice rounds to figure out how to make your perfect cup. Also I recommend buying a separate temper to pack the grounds into the filter. The plastic temper built into the machine does not allow you to evenly put enough pressure to get a good cream.
