Another solid release from Circa Survive

I used to claim Circa Survive was my favorite band. Juturna, On Letting Go, and Blue Sky Noise were all excellent albums, proving that Anthony Green and his bandmates are some of the most talented songwriters and musicians currently in the industry. But their last two releases - Violent Waves, and the most recent Descensus - have failed to connect with me. Or maybe I just failed to connect with them. There's nothing wrong with Descensus. While it seems the band has steered in a harder and more raw direction over the past few years, their hooks and melodies are still as significant and entrancing as ever. And the lyrics continue to push above the mediocre into the surreal, with Green's vocals raging and taking them into the stratosphere. From a completely objective perspective, Descensus is solid and worthwhile. From a subjective perspective, perhaps my own personal tastes haven't progressed in line with Circa's continued evolution. But that doesn't change the fact that they still know how to tear the place apart and still leave you with a feeling of satisfaction.

Circa Survive Goes Artsy On Decsensus and it Works

Aside from the first song on the album, "Schema," this album isn't full of singles. This was meant to be listened to all the way through. I usually have it as my late night album when I'm driving home because it's hypnotic and ambient at so many points. For me, it can get somewhat monotonous at times but usually the guys in Circa have good timing with how long to milk a theme. This is an album, again, for people to listen to all the way through because it makes sense that way. Decsensus fits in a category of it's own.

I had been a big fan of the 1st Circa Survive albums, but lost a little bit of love for Blue Sky Noise. I hadn't followed the band for awhile, and then decided to try out Violent Waves and Descensus. With the focus on Descensus here, I'm glad to say I revisited the band. Great energy, a fine example of their epic, sonic musical pursuits.

Circa survive is quite possibly the best band going these days of over commercial pop music flooding the airwaves. The musicianship is excellent and singer Anthony Greens passion and vocal range is second to none. An inspiring effort from a creative, talented and passionate group.

Dissapointed. As a circa survive fan, I've really enjoyed how they've come out w/ great albums consistently. I feel like they took a few step backwards. The vocal melodies are boring and lack that spunk Anthony usually portrays and the music is just on par.

I've been a fan since Anthony Green was in Saosin. I will always think Juturna is number 1 but this album is definitely on my top 3 list.

I absolutely love this CD. I have a few of their albums and they are all amazing. My only complaint is that the CD is not longer.

Good progressive music similar to Coheed and Cambria right down to the vocals. If you like them then you'll like this.
