Now This Is How You Bring A Great Show Back!

Doctor Who quit having new episodes in 1989 and after the television movie in the 90's it's future wasn't looking all that great. When Doctor Who came back in 2005 it would either mean the rebirth of Whomania on television or the end of the program. Thankfully this season turned out to be great and as a result we have an excellent series that is still going to this day. This is called The Complete First Series, but that is because Doctor Who hadn't been new for so long that to many this was their first experience of Doctor Who. It shares the continuity of the classic Doctor Who series and they do a good job remembering their history, but rest assured that you don't need to have seen any classic Doctor Who to understand and enjoy this. This series does a great job of modernizing Doctor Who. Where as some of the sets from classic Doctor Who were a bit wobbly and fake looking, everything looks more realistic here. The sets are better and they also make good use of filming at real locations. While the classic Doctor Who stories were often good the stories on this set have a bit more depth to them. Is every single story here excellent? No, some of them are cheesy and the classic Doctor Who serials with wobbly sets and styrofoam monsters can be taken more seriously at times. But the episodes in this set that aren't good are few and far between. There's a lot of great writing here. The special features are very good and give you an idea of what it was like to bring back a beloved show that had been off the air for quite a while. I would recommend watching all of the special features on all five discs, but do so after having watched all the episodes so you'll avoid spoilers. I have to say that the packaging for this set in wonderful. Originally it was released in bigger packaging that would take up more room on your shelf, but the version out now is so much better because it fits all five DVDs in a regular sized DVD case. This saves shelf space and it looks so much better when you put it next to the classic Doctor Who DVDs. This set will appeal to people who have been fans of Doctor Who since the 60's as well as a new generation of people who haven't seen a single episode. There is no better way to get into Doctor Who in my opinion than starting with this. Be warned though, once you start watching Doctor Who you will likely get hooked! Highly recommended!

Product was delevered ahead of time and was increadable cheap when compared elsewhere. I love this series but this is the first season DVD box set that I bought because they are often much more expensive. DVD extras were great. They had commentary on every episode and a behind the scenes look on every episode. They even had a video diary from actors Billie Piper (Rose) and John Barrowman (Captain Jack) in the special feature. If you are a Doctor Who fan this is a must purchase. I haven't seen prices any cheaper for this DVD on the interenet. With the eposides and extra content this DVD has, it makes it well worth the price.

My only exposure to Doctor Who growing up were the occassional reruns aired on PBS. When the series began airing on the SciFi Channel in 2006, I was immediately hooked. Although the special effects are light years ahead of the original series, the writers and actors respect for the show make it more than just a revival. From the first time the TARDIS engines churn to the Dalek standoff to Christopher Eccleston's regeneration into David Tennant, you feel like the Doctor's return was long overdue. Even if Britney Spear's "Toxic" is considered Earth's greatest masterpiece 5 billion years in the future.

From the Doctor's first words, "Run!" through an epic finale, Who's revival kicks off magnificently. Firstly, yes the production quality is a bit dodgy compared to most tv shows of the last decade, but the BBC seems to continually bump up the budget each season moving forward. If you haven't seen this show, you will either love it or not understand why people obssess with the franchise. Do give the first season a few episodes to get going. You're in for treat!

Eccleston''s Doctor is fantastic. This is a great relaunch of the log-running series. Production values are great front to back. Image and audio quality are high for DVD -- a separate Blu-ray is *way* overdue in the US. There is a plethora of extra features. Doctor Who fans will be quite pleased with this set. If you're not yet a Who fan this set may make you one. Highly recommended.

I'm new to the world of Doctor Who, but when I first watched it on TV I HAD to have it. This set is absolutely wonderful. I can't wait to get the rest of the series and I can't wait to watch all the old Doctor Who's. I'm so glad to find all the ones I'm looking for right here. This is definitely a must have. I was rather sad to see Christopher Eccleston go though.

What a wonderful way to bring back an old favorite! The Ninth Doctor is quirky and lovable, and Rose Tyler makes an insightful (and entertaining) companion. This dvd set also includes Doctor Who Confidental, a great behind-the-scenes look at the series. Doctor Who Season One is sure to delight fans young and old alike!

The Docter is back, and hes great. I've been a long time fan of Doctor Who, and while this new series has a different vibe than the original, it's still great. The humor and charm are still there, and the effects are so much better!! Plus the DVDs and Doctor Who Confidential. A whole behind the scenes series!
