Research ProductsPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
This product has worked well for my needs and I would recommend it to anyone that does a lot of writing or anyone wishing to control their computer using voice recognition. The product is great however; it does take a lot of time to train the software. Nuance claims that this program works right out of the box with little or no training; well that is true depending on how you define ‘works’. Out of the box I had about a 50% accuracy rate, after dozens of hours of training it, I got it up to 80%. So if you don’t have the time to do this you’re probably not going to like this product. This software isn’t perfect so don’t expect it to be perfect. Prior to purchasing any product I believe that one should do a little research to make sure that it is compatible with your system, they can’t list every detail on the box. Both good and bad, technology continues to follow Moore’s Law and what you buy today might not work tomorrow; computer architecture is outpacing software development. Computers are supposed to make our life easier and that they do but don’t think that you don’t have to know anything about them. You need to know what 32 bit vs. 64 bit, duo core vs. quad core, means. FSB speed, CPU speed and the difference between AGP and PCI and on top of that the differences in PCI, PCI-x, PCI-Express 1x, 8x and 16x. Daunting I will agree but if you don’t know these things then you’re probably going to have a very disappointing experience with computers and software. But I digress… If you purchase Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.0 and are running a 64bit OS then go to the link below; it will let you download 10.1 with the key that came with 10.0 which is compatible with Vista’s 64 bit OS. http://www.nuance.com/vista/naturallyspeaking/Dragon10.1/

BEST Time Saver everPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I have used previous versions for over 10 years. Early versions were not so accurate but I can’t think of anything I don’t like now. (1) It will work best and you will be the most satisfied if you don’t rush to use it. Take the necessary time to train the software and yourself to use it. (The more you use it the smarter it gets.) (2) Follow all of the instructions and suggestions. (3) It’s important to speak in full sentences so it has the context of the words in the sentence to get the spelling of words correct. If you stop in the middle of the sentence and it gets words wrong when you continue finishing the sentence. Then just repeat the full sentence without stopping and then delete the incorrect sentence. (4) The quickest and best method I have found to train the software for accuracy is to: (This is most important) Read or recite Nursery Rhymes until it gets all the words correct. (Nursery Rhymes work so well because it trains you, as well as the software, it teaches you to learn to pronounce words correctly.) One of the best I found is, “Mary had a little Lamb, it’s fleece was white as snow, and everywhere that Mary went, the Lamb was sure to go.” (put breaks where the commas are). (5) Note how you are pronouncing each word and be sure you are pronouncing the words correctly. If it gets a word wrong, try pronouncing the word a little differently the next time you recite the Rhyme. (6) You don’t have to speak slowly, just speak normally, relax and be sure you say each word separately and you are not running words together. (7) Try different things to learn to relax while speaking. Talk to your pet, read the newspaper or anything out loud. (8) The position of the microphone is most important. The headset with microphone included that comes with the software is of good quality, so if you are having problems, reposition the mic. And Read ALL of the instructions. You can also dictate into a handheld digital recording device then transfer it directly to your computer. I use Windows XP on an old Pentium Laptop.

This product is great but you would think by version 10 some of the UI features would be more polished. For me this is good enough for the purchase but you have to realize I got it during a sale. I wish there were more compeditors in the market. My guess is the price would drop. Other than that and the UI having room for improvement it is a solid winner of a product. Runs great on Windows Ultimate 7.

Be carefulPosted .No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Have used previous version for several years, installed latest version and then uninstalled. Two major reasons. 1. If you've defined special words that are unique to what you do, the new version remembers their spelling, but not how you say them. Having to retrain the software for each of your custom words is more work than the new version saves by its incremental improvement in accuracy. 2. Program doesn't work with EMR software, but doesn't tell you this in any of its advertising literature. So, if you've been using previous versions with an EMR, don't upgrade because the new version doesn't work. They want you to buy a "medical" version that does little more than let you use it with EMR for about a 500% premium.

This product really works.Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
This is my first time using this product and I got to say, Dragon NaturallySpeaking do work, I think that some of the people that have problems with it is because their computer are not up to code or they don't tune it up, so I recommend first to read the requirements for it and second to really tuneup your computer, like I said before the only thing that didn't work for me on my second computer was the sound card, as a matter of fact I'm writing this comment with my Dragon right now.if you have if you have a 64-bit operating system there is a download at the Dragon NaturallySpeaking site.

64-bit Windows - FORGET ABOUT IT!!Posted .No, I would not recommend this to a friend
We purchased this for my 80-year-old mother who is bedridden and has very limited use of her arthritic hands. At the same time we also purchased a new, high-powered laptop for her to use on the tilting tray attached to her hospital bed. When we went to install the software, much to my surprise an error message came up indicating that Dragon does not work with a 64-bit operating system. Of course, any new high-powered computer today will have the 64-bit version of Vista loaded onto it automatically. There was no warning on the outside of the Naturally Speaking Box, or anywhere in the online descriptions of the product - either at BestBuy or on the Nuance.com website. It simply said that the software required WIndows XP or Vista. Only after searching the installation manual and doing a Google search did we discover this information. If you try to get customer support online, an e-mail inquiry costs $9.95! They kindly inform you that this is LESS expensive than telephone support. No thanks! P.S. I suppose it might be an outstanding product on a 32-bit OS, but I'll never know, will I??!!

Answer to last post, about 64-bit install try alternative install that Windows allows various products to be installed under different platforms while running 64-bit mode. Example Windows 98 product, windows XP home edition. Found under a compatibility Wizard. Hope this might help. "I would recommend this product to anyone that needs to do a lot of typing and is a slow typer."

MisleadingPosted .No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Using the microphone that came with this software I am still able to type faster and type more accurate than this software. In my opinion the software description is misleading and is no way close to 99% accurate; even after constantly training the software. I will take Carpal tunnel over the hassle of this software any day. I would suggest that unless you absolutely cannot use a keyboard to stick with using a keyboard and mouse.
