Synopsis

Dragonheart
A boy and his dragon unite to fight evil in this fantasy. Bowen (Dennis Quaid), a Knight of The Old Code in Medieval times, is summoned by Aislinn the Queen (Julie Christie) to the bedside of her son, Einon, who is also Bowen's student. Einon has been wounded and is near death; with his heart about to give out, Bowen calls upon Draco (voice of Sean Connery), the mightiest dragon in the land, asking for a sliver of his mighty heart so that the boy might survive. Draco makes Bowen pledge that when Enion grows to adulthood and becomes king, he will rule with fairness and compassion before the beast will donate a piece of his heart. Einon agrees to the pledge, but years later, the adult Einon (David Thewlis) has become a cruel despot, in no way good on his promises. Bowen, angry at Einon's betrayal, is convinced that the dragon is somehow responsible and goes on a spree, killing the mammoth reptiles at a fevered pace. However, when Bowen once again encounters Draco, the dragon convinces him that a dragon-slayer who has killed the last dragon also puts himself out of a job; Draco and Bowen work out a business arrangement, where the monster "attacks" villages and Bowen is paid to "kill" him. In time, however, Draco and Bowen realize that they must set aside their lucrative business in order to challenge the authority of the evil ruler. Draco the Dragon was the first fully-computer animated character to have a speaking part along side flesh and blood actors in a film; Sean Connery's recording sessions as the voice of Draco were recorded on video as well as audio tape, so that his facial expressions and mouth movements could be adapted to the character. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Other DragonHeart films! I never was able to see this film in the theater as it came out so long ago when work was the priority. Picking it up on Blu-ray and watching it on my 180" projection theater felt like watching it for the 1st time in IMAX! For its age/time the CGI Dragon is fantastic and the voice over from Sean Connery adds to the affect. The humour in the film is appropriate for its time & kids. Its a fun film that for some reason I still enjoy to this day. The last time I watched it was on DVD and that was scratched long ago. I'd recommend buying this if you enjoy fantasy films. You will likely have to buy DragonHeart 2 if you want to see all 3 (if you have netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime) you can usually watch the 3rd on one of them? As for this one. I enjoyed it!

dragon heart is a very good movie about a dragon and a friendship between a human and a dragon and it has good story from start to finish and they don't make them like this anymore bc this movie is a classic kinda like tremors so if you want a good movie about a dragon than check it out bc it seems they can't ever make a good dragon movie beside this one and eragon and dragon slayer are the only movies that wear good about dragons bc every other one they make are no good so if you want to see a good movie that has heart and is about dragons than check this one out

When this movie first came out, people complained that Sean Connery voiced the Dragon because it was one of the first digital characters to be voiced by a celebrity actor. People said it was distracting hearing his voice but seeing it come from a creature. I never had that problem, and think it was perfect voice casting. The Dragon is noble and has a big heart, so who better for the part? The film still looks great and holds up well on Blu-ray too.

I've been waiting for this older movie to be released on blu ray to upgrade from my dvd! The HD picture and DTS 5.1 audio is superb! It 's a great family movie with Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery as the voice of Draco the dragon! Great to watch again, entertaining and highly recommended!

Loved getting the bluray here in Best Buy after looking for it so long! Still wished for a 20th anniversary edition with more special features than the original Laserdisc ripped DVD. Sean Connery is the best dragon voice ever!

I still like this movie. The adventure. The score. And dragons. However, the video quality is not much better than DVD. It's gotten cheap so I grabbed it but it's nowhere near remastered in HD.

Sean Connery is such a presence in the film despite being just the voice for the dragon. His voice adds something regal to the dragon's character and also gives Draco the humanity needed to become the tragic hero of the saga.

I am a sucker for movies with Dragons in them. Good or bad I will usually give the movie a shot. This turned out to be a good one. Very enjoyable, good acting from Quaid and always great to hear Sean Connery!!
