This has been a great unit. You will get better speed out of it with 7200rpm drives rather than the value 5400 or 5900 drives. I love the thunderbolt capability as that's why I bought this unit. Now there is a Drobo 5Dt that has thunderbolt 2 support. If that is important to you then opt for the 5Dt model, if not then this will be a quick, easy and simple unit for you.

I am not sure that this product is the best for using as a scratch disc for Final Cut Pro X. I have been using this unit for a few weeks and have been unimpressed with the speed using 3 - 7200rpm drives and 1 256 mSSD. I am going to try adding some 2 - 2TB SSD’s and see if this improves.
