Another solid effort from Mark Tremonti and Co. Recorded at the same time as Cauterize, it doesn't seem to quite hit the spot that Cauterize did so more like a 4.5/5. In Dust, Mark throws us some curveballs that grab your attention. The riff in "The Cage" sounds Slash-inspired. In "Catching Fire", Mark sings the up-tempo verses in an aggressive style that we haven't heard before, and in the bridge, all the guitars come together to drop the boom with an epic, descending run. Dust excels with a good mix, big choruses, and great musicianship, and it all comes together on the closer, "Unable to See". The epic and beautiful riff is reminiscent of Creed's "One Last Breath" and "Hide". The highly emotive song with Mark's rich vocals really caps off the album well. My favorites are: Dust, Betray Me, Tore My Heart Out, and Unable to See. While it feels to be missing a little magic, Dust, without a doubt, helps fill the void that is present in Hard Rock and Metal. Highly recommend along with their other albums, Cauterize and All I Was.

Tremonti... What can I say? This man knows how to make music. He is one of the most talented musicians out there today. He sings, he writes the songs and he plays killer lead guitar all on each Tremonti album. You know him from his years as Creed's lead guitarist, and as Alter Bridge's current lead guitarist. All this man does is make music, and great music at that. From track one to track ten, this album impress you. My favorite tracks are the more heavy and catchy tracks like Catching Fire (which blazes all the way through, with an EPIC bridge), My Last Mistake (another blistering song), Never Wrong (opens with a Van Halen-esque lick and is a mid-tempo rocker, with a heavier chorus) and lastly Betray Me (a mostly blistering rock song, but with more melody). Every track on the album is great, it's truly hard to pick favorites to be honest, but these are the songs that I catch myself singing in my head the most. BUY IT.

Feels rushed overall, most songs could have used some more time to develop, imo. Not nearly up to par w/ 'all I was' especially, or 'cauterize.'. mind you that I'm a pretty big tremonti fan, can't get enough of what he's done w/ alter bridge. Sad to report that his tremonti stuff just seems to be trailing off, album to album. riffs and solos just don't stack up to earlier work, imo. Couple songs off 'dust' I listen to reliably and can rock out to, but overall disappointed, I'm sorry to say. His guitar work can carry his voice so far, and has on the previous releases, but when the guitar and other instruments aren't up to what this band can and has produced, it can make for a fairly tepid and overall forgettable album. My review makes me sad. Be the legend you can be MT!

Tremonti is not for everyone. But, if you are a fan, like me, of good strong metal, minus the glam and sinister lyrics, than this again is another great cd from a very good band. With Wolfgang Van Halen filling in on bass, the entire band brings such gusto and energy to every song. Mark Tremonti proves again, that just like with Alter Bridge and Creed before that, he is a strong songwriter and lead guitarist. His singing, though at times, not as strong as either of those bands lead singers, is still a force. I really liked the more low key songs here, showing the bands growth as musicians. Definitely a great album for those looking for a harder edged record with some strong musicianship.

I found myself slightly disappointed with "Cauterize" in its entirety, although I do think it's still a solid album, but "Dust" hits on all the cylinders originally ignited by "All I Was." Mark's vocals are spot-on to go with the usual top-notch guitar playing; he, of course, has surrounded himself with first-rate band members whom add tremendous vocals and instrumentation. The album starts at a blistering pace, but the title track does a fantastic job of adding that lighter but powerful dimension that makes sure the album does not grow stale. There is not a track on the album worth skipping; highly recommended for initial or new Tremonti fans!

Even though Dust was recorded at the same time as cauterize, it is a completely different sounding album. I find it to be the most solid out of the three that Tremonti have put out. I can't think of a track that isn't rock solid. I have had this album on a steady rotation since I got it. Lead track my last mistake is a burner of a track followed by the cage, and it doesn't stop. The album finishes with unable to see which is the most mellow on the album but is incredibly soulful. You need this album.

Tremonti just keeps blowing me away with all of his genius writing and musicianship. Dust is even better last years predecessor Cauterize. Even though it is technically a double album realeased only a year apart from each other, Dust stands on its own and doesn't feel like a B-Side album. The album flows perfectly and there are no songs I want to skip over. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves metal or his previous works with bands such as Alter Bridge or Creed.

The songs on this album, Dust, were recorded during the same studio sessions as Tremonti's prior album, Cauterize. If you were a fan of the sound and diversity of the first of these two albums then this album is one you shouldn't hesitate to purchase. Don't think of Dust as a B-sides album or one of unreleased material, think of this as what it is, Volume 2. Dust is a sincere effort worthy of praise and success.
