Great Compact Vacuum
Great Compact Vacuum|Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
I've had my Dyson for a few months now and I'm quite satisfied with it. I live in a small house with hardwood and tiled floors and a few short fiber area rugs. The Dyson performs well on all three surfaces but I can see where it might not be a good option for longer fiber rugs. Pros: The charge station is convenient and easy to install. I live in an 1100 sq. ft. home and I'm able to vacuum the entire house on a single charge at the normal power setting (it would not last long enough to vacuum an area twice the size of my home). The quality and materials are good. I really like the extension with the rotating brush. It maneuvers around and under things very well, much better than my full size vac. When finished vacuuming the canister is easy to empty over a trash can without making a mess. The roller brush can also be easily removed from the head for easy cleaning. Cons: The charge station does hold a couple of attachments but it would be nice if it accomodated all of the attachments for convenient storage. It would be nice if the power trigger was a slide switch rather than a trigger type switch that you have to hold down the entire time. My finger does feel a little bit of fatigue by the time I finish vacuuming my entire house but it's managable. The suction is ok but it would be nice if it were a bit stronger. And finally, the price is a bit high compared to other cordless vacs but on par for Dyson products.Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.

Works Wonderfully for Its Intended Use
Works Wonderfully for Its Intended Use|Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
Let me try and address many of the reviews you will see on this site and others that seem to imply the product is not excellent. The product is only designed for a very specific purpose. That purpose, lightweight and quick cleaning, such as quickly removing dust from hardwood floors, it all it is designed to do. It does that very well. However, it will not replace a full size vacuum for most people, will not do jobs that take more than a few minutes, and will not make your coffee in the morning, as many expect at this price. The DC44 is very light weight. So light in fact that when I leave it on the floor for a few minutes I find my two-year picking up the vacuum, pulling the trigger, and trying to use it. However, both the machine itself and the attachments appear to be built very well and seem strong enough to handle years of use. For the small jobs we use it for, it perform very well. We vacuum out hardwoods to remove dust and cat fur left behind by our favorite feline. We use to vacuum the small amounts of litter that find their way of the box. We use it to vacuum the mat at the front door where our shoes deposit everything from loose dirt to small pebbles. We use it to vacuum the crumbs left behind by my toddler son, under the couch, the beds, and other furniture, and to grab the nonsense found on the kitchen floor after making dinner. It does all these tasks with ease. As advertised, the battery life is about 20 minutes when using the low power setting. We use this setting most of the time. The only times we feel the need to use the higher setting is for the front door mat or larger crumbs left by my son. When used on high power only, it works for about 12 minutes. You must hold the trigger for the vacuum to be on. There is no toggle or on switch that will allow you to let go of the trigger. Many don’t like this, but I love it. That is what saves battery life. When I am moving from the front door mat to the crumbs my son left, the vacuum is off, even if only for 15 seconds. Overall, I think that saves a lot of power. I do wish it had a larger capacity. I find if I use it for fifteen minutes and may need to empty it two or three times. But, I think this is probably a good thing. By emptying it often it maintains better power, thereby needed to use it for a shorter period and saving on batter power. Overall, it is wonderful for what it is. Expect it to be what it is, not some super vac that is lightweight and cordless but can still suck up marbles buried in your three inch nap carpet.Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.

Much better than Shark and Electrolux
Much better than Shark and Electrolux|Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
I purchased this unit after 2 months of using a Shark and an Electrolux floor vacuum with detachable hand-vac. While the other two were fine for simple dust and hair vacuuming, my dilemma is a cat that is tracking kitty litter all over the second floor and down the stairs. Only the Dyson is able to pick this up and the occasional piece of dry cat food being batted around for fun. The suction power on this unit makes sure that everything gets to the canister and stays there. The two other units would suck up most of litter but when turned off some of his would spill out of the brush head. Not with the Dyson. The attachments are very nice with a mini brush head that works great on stairs. While the detachable top turns into a somewhat bulkier hand-vac, I was still able to use it to vacuum my entire car but I had to do it fast! Why? Because the battery life is only 15-20 minutes which is less than the others. Now the reasons why I give it four stars instead of five: Like a garden hose head, you must continuously press the trigger button to keep the unit running. That might not be good for someone with arthritis. Another thing that irked me is shutting down instantly when out of power. With the other floor vacs, you could hear when the unit was running low on power and hurry up. With this one, you can be 90% done with your job and it just turns off. Finally, the other units have a free-standing base that can be placed on the floor for storage and charging up. This Dyson's base is one that must be attached to a wall. If you're going to store it in a closet, you'll need an outlet in there for re-charging. I personally just lean it up against a corner close to an outlet. The DC44 is nowhere near as powerful as a plug-in vacuum but for quick vacuuming of smaller areas, it does a great job and does it better than the others I mentioned. If you can live with the negatives, this is the one you want.Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.

Best Cordless Vac
Best Cordless Vac|Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
Dyson's great cyclone technology is amazing in their newest cordless vac. Heavy cat litter and leaves are picked up as easily as household dust and pet hair. Fine dust from sanding drywall patches was picked up with none lost through the filtering to be recirculated back into the room! Charge lasts 20 to 25 minutes, which is just enough vacuuming for me at one time. Charge lasts half that time when the 2X (double suction power) switch is on, but I have not found any dirt that required that much power. Light on unit warns user when 1 min. of charge remains. Vac is lightweight and head fits easily around chair and table legs. Vac is exceptionally quiet. Dirt cup empties fully at the press of a single button.Sorry, there was a problem. If you have the money to spend and specifically want a HAND VACUUM, this is a great buy. Highlighting the extra money emphasis here, because the value is a little lacking in this product. That being said, you still get what you pay for. The attachments are super sturdy and don't fall off when you bang them around. The battery life is AMAZING, even on MAX mode. The skinny form factor makes it easy to vacuum underneath furniture without having to lift it one bit. That is one of the biggest pluses I have, specifically being a 4-pet household. On top of having to clean up often, the process itself is a pain when it takes a while with a lower quality vac and you have felines jumping all over everything as well as an insane canine trying to destroy the vacuum intruder. This is actually where the scratching issue came into play. My dog has very dull nails yet still managed to make a huge scratch on the blue stick. Very disappointed, it happened only a week in. I also have semi-cheap carpeting that happens to release a fair amount of lint. This clogs the vac up real quick, which I am not a big fan of. This vacuum was marketed as an animal series, yet it clogs with lint? I'm a little iffy on judging this portion since my carpet is somewhat cheap and it IS a stick vac, but I do find myself cleaning the brush after any bout with that room. It can get a little inconvenient. What remedies this for me is the effortless cleaning. You can clear the brush in literally three minutes. Back to brand new status. It's incredible, and it's what has me hooked. I have yet to see a vacuum with such easy brush cleaning. TL;DR The vacuum is a solid A-. The very best at doing what it does but the price tag is a little ugly. Easy to use, clean, and modify to your needs. A little rough on carpet performance but still top for stick vacs. You WILL use every attachment, they're awesome.Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.

the good... Very convenient, I do not hesitate to grab this off the wall and do a quick spot cleaning. With my previous canister vacuum, I had to go to a storage drawer and pull out the canister and the detached hose and sections of extension tubes and various heads and the long unraveled cord, check the bag and if full change it then plug it in put it together and then after a few minutes of vacuuming go through the reverse process only to find more hair I may have missed because the cord didn't reach the remote areas. So rather than shlep all the parts out, I would just leave the hair for another time. This (to me) was a pain and more often than not, I would just put it off until the drifts of hair were like icebergs floating around the house. This is the reason I gave it a 5 star rating. It works and it gets used and it's even fun to use. I have seen complaints about the trigger not locking. Since this is not intended to be a full house vacuum, I think this is more of a benefit to preserve battery power than a negative. Since it is designated as "animal" I think most will probably use it to pick up hair which tends to clump together in corners and along edges, so I just point and shoot where ever I see hair. I can easily touch up the whole house in this manner since it is not running as I walk around looking for dirt and hair to pick up. the not so good... The lint bin is tiny. Anyone with multiple pets will get this. Even using it frequently results in several trips to the trash to empty the hair, bit of a pain, but not a deal breaker, just saying it should be bigger. The vacuum is as everyone mentions very, very, very, very, expensive, did I say it was very, expensive? The sound the motor makes sounds exactly like my wife's hair dryer and I would guess that it moves about the same amount of air. I mean $400 for what is really just a reverse hair dryer and some attachments, it is over priced, but still beats the competition on performance. I equate this to buying a very expensive car like a BMW or Mercedes over a cheaper utilitarian car for about a quarter of the money. If you can afford it, it is nice to drive an expensive car even though it is still just a car and does the exact same thing as a Chevy or Ford without the bells and whistles. And, it's not like everyone who rates this thing doesn't complain about the price, so it should be no surprise and you have been warned. It is definatly a luxury purchase. On a personal note, I do think you are paying a lot for advertising and pretty candy colors and Dyson does do a lot of testing and R&D, so you decide if the value is there. I am just rating it on it's functionality. I must say, I do like the wall bracket for the vacuum, but it only holds the vacuum and the two smaller attachments not the carpet attachments. I am not sure why that is, but since I have since purchasing this vacuum purchased three other heads including the flexible crevice tool, the wood floor tool and the dusting tool for about a hundred more dollars, I would not expect it to hold all these, but did I say very, very expensive? I am now into this for over $500 and that doesn't include a back up battery. But at least for now, the included battery seems sufficient. So I think I have the whole kit and caboodle.Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.

Great for SMALL home
Great for SMALL home|Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
When our old vacuum became to heavy for me to lift up and down stairs, my husband and I researched alternatives. We live in and RV, so have very little floor space to deal with, which also means that we have very little floor space to store a bulky vacuum cleaner. We looked into a central vac, but when we learned that our RV manufacturer and discontinued installing central vacs and begun providing Dyson rechargeables instead, we began to look seriously at this unit. I have mostly hard floors, supplemented with thick wool area rugs. This unit picks up fabulously on both, even cleaning up extra dogs left lying around by our two border collies. My two complaints are: 1) the on switch is a trigger that must be held down all the time the unit is in use. My finger aches after I get done cleaning. 2) the roller clogs with dog hair very easily. On the up side, it also cleans fairly easily, but I think they could do better. I am glad we purchased this unit and I have recommended it to friends!Sorry, there was a problem. Good for cleaning anywhere

The Dyson DC44 is a great overall vacuum. The suction power is great and it's construction make it very easy to take anywhere. In fact, it's the only vacuum that I have for my apartment. However it is not perfect. My two biggest complaints are listed above. Here's some more clarification on them. Battery Life: It lasts for 20 minutes. Then takes hours to charge. Thought you'd do a whole house cleaning last minute before your guests arrived? Hope your apartment is small Uncomfortable: I'm sure the men at Dyson are much smarter than I am bit I don't understand why there is a trigger to turn it on. Why not a switch? Or at least a mechanism that can hold the trigger down? Squeezing a plastic trigger can be uncomfortable if you do it for an extended period of time. Not the worst. Just an annoyance. Overall though I think it's a great vacuum. Probably overpriced though.Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
