Good, Cheap Laptop
Posted .Just picked this up at Best Buy for under $300 . I wanted a very inexpensive "back-up" laptop for when I don't want to lug my 17" widescreen beauty around (and because that computer is in the shop, again). I had looked at various netbooks, but they seem pretty limited in what they can do. This little emachines laptop surprised me! It's great for surfing - actually seems faster somehow than what I'm used to. It looks and feels well made. The matte finish plastic isn't a magnet to fingerprints like my main laptop's gloss black finish. This is my first Vista machine (it has the lightest version of Vista) but it seems to be a pretty painless transition. The built-in wizards got me through the set-up of both my wireless home network and the wired network at work in less than a minute in each case. The slightly curved keyboard took no time to get used to and the touchpad feels and responds just the way I like. I was going to add an additional Gig of RAM but Best Buy didn't have the right type. From what I've experienced thus far, I'm not sure I need it. But realize I'm using this laptop for surfing, simple word processing, and playing DVDs. Frankly, unless I'm missing something, this may be the best purchase I've ever made! Mind you, that's at the $299 sale price - I wouldn't pay much more than that.

The cheapest way to surf the web.
Posted .For the price, this is a nice laptop computer. With the built-in wifi, it's well suited to surfing the web, and the 1280x800 pixel screen is a lot nicer than some of the little netbook computers and the price is lower. My D620-5777 came equipped with one 1GB soDIMM, and it still has an empty slot, so you won't be forced to pitch the RAM if you decide to upgrade to 2 or 3 GB. The thin manual that accompanies the computer says that the laptop can be upgraded to 4GB using 2GB soDIMMs. I installed a 2GB soDIMM and it works fine, so that's an unexpected bonus. There are only two USB ports on the computer, and no flash RAM slots. Iif you're interested in dumping the contents of your camera you'll need a flash memory adapter or the USB cable, but considering the low price of this laptop, it's a small issue. The computer seems to run cooler than most laptops, a real plus if you are holding it on your lap. The display can unfold slightly more that 180 degrees from the keyboard, so there's a wide range of viewing possibilities. The DVD burner is a plus too. Finally, the keyboard is curved slightly so that it "smiles" at you. I wasn't sure it I would like it, but the slight curve makes it a little easier to type with it in my lap. All in all, I'm well satisfied with the eMachine D620-5777 laptop.

Alright...
Posted .This was a pretty good buy. For the price, it's got a nice size and it works quite well actually. I dont have any complaints with it. The only bad things are the latches (they are cheap, and if you break them, thats it) and the outside isn't very durable. But you can always buy a case for it. I personally wouldn't take it with me all over because it would probably break...But for the price (about $300) it's pretty good. The only other computers for that price are the netbooks, I looked into those for a while but the screen was so small. It was ridiculous. But if you wanted a sturdier computer, you'd spend more money on it. The processor is quite good. It's fast and you dont have to wait so long. Its actually faster than my mother's Gateway that we bought for $700. What a suprise. So overall, I think this was a good buy for the money. I would recommend it to anyone who simply wants a computer and is not willing to spend so much. Its also very easy to set up. Im 13 and I set it up by myself. =D

Solid Value
Posted .Very nice PC for $299! I bought this PC for internet surfing, checking mail, and some word processing. I also have an Apple desktop and laptop for my higher end needs. I was looking at the Dell Mini but this one was simply way ahead of those considering the cost. It was an easy decision. Only downside was the massive amount of preloaded software to clean up. However after 4 hours of installing new software and uninstalling the pre-installed software, everything was set to go. This is every bit as nice as many Laptops in the $600-$700 range! I have no idea how Best But can make anything on these, but they must or they wouldn't sell them. I may even go pick up a few more for Christmas presents! Tiger Direct, Dell, HP, Wal-Mart, SamsClub, couldn't touch the $299 price tag. Oh, did I mention they also threw in a $25 gift card (part of a temp promotion), as well as $10 on my Best Buy Rewards card?!?!? I never write these things so you know I am impressed.

$300!! it's cheaper than my phone.
Posted .I just bought this laptop as a gift. It seems too good to be true. It's able to play World of Warcraft too after adding another GB of RAM. It has all the right components for the price. Again I'm not too fond of Vista especially during set up. Once you uninstall all the bloat wares and such, it's great. The casing stays relatively cool to the touch and the funny shaped keyboard seems to work well too. The back panel with 4 short screws and one long screw is not easily removable. So after removing the screws, you still have to be careful popping the panel off or risk breaking it. My friend and I haven't been able to find a way to create a recovery disk yet. I believe this is because of Vista Basic. For $300 this laptop is terrific. I didn't have very good luck with the first e-Machines I bought a while back. It died only after 6 months of service. Only time will tell how long this e-Machines will last.

Good Price, Good Quality
Posted .Personally, I'm not a fan of Vista, mainly because I prefer XP because its stable (for the most part) and its not like trying to learn something new because right now, I don't really feel like learning anything new. Bringing this Laptop home I was a bit skeptic because I mean it had a 300 buck price tag. But it is most definitely a nice piece of hardware. I primarily got this laptop just to be able to write stuff up, not to do anything magical or anything like that and it has performed well thus far. The display is great and the keys are a very nice size. The weight of the laptop is great as well and I honestly have to say that for the price and what comes in the box, its definitely one of those things where its more bang for the buck.

Great laptop for the money
Posted .My wife and I bought this for her parents Xmas present. They need a 2nd computer that is mobile for email, watching movies, and Word. This provides all of that and more!!! I wish it had an SD card slot so you could load pictures directly into laptop. It has DVD/CD burner which is awesome for copying pictures and movies. The set-up was easy, a little slow, but nothing too bad. I would definitely recommend this at the $299.99 price- $500 is way too much for a single core processor. The feel is a little "cheap" the hard plastic doesn't feel like my Gateway or the wife's IBM laptops. But again, for under $300 what else can you ask for???? Peace

cheezy vista
Posted .Pro's: Its dirt cheap, ultra light battery, long battery life, semi light laptop and for the price of vista included its worth buying. Con's: Vista loads horrifically, it requires updates, Too much pointless extra software, Runs slow, has a bad head design above the keyboard (not going to be easy cleaning out), 1gig ram, no web cam, no S-video, no modem, screen reflects light, and last this does not come with a restore/reinstall disk. Im not fond of vista since its more for the at home user who likes the glitz and glam of an operation system all dressed up, This would be a much better laptop if it had linux installed, and my dell latitude L400 with windows 2000 256mb ram runs faster than this, but other than that its somewhat of a decent laptop for the average user who just wants to surf the web, play some music and watch some movies, that's pretty much what id recommend buying it for since other apps like Office2007 would run phenomenally slow along with any video/music editing software.
