Ember - Temperature Control Smart Mug² - 14 oz - (RED)

My husband bought this for me since my coffee always gets cold especially when I am working. I work from home so sometimes I get busy and distracted and I dont get to my coffee quick enough. I wanted the bigger size as that is the type of cup I normally drink. The pros are that is definitely does what it says in keep your coffee warm. You have several different settings within the app to choose from on temp.level. It was extremely easy to hook up to the app and I havent had any issues since. Within the app you can check your battery level. Since I do work from home, I thought it would be best to just keep the cup on the charging pad, but I started noticing that the bottom of the cup started to become discolored. I was a bit worried that it was because I was charging and the heating element were being used too much together, so now I only charge when needed. I dont trust charging it while I am sleeping or gone with that discoloring. I have tried to wash it thinking it could be from something else, but it doesnt not come off. The biggest con is I do not think it keeps a battery life as long as it says. It does seem to lose battery quickly. It is also really hard to make sure it is off just by the press of the button. It seems to light up as soon as you pick it up or move it. The coffee does get an old taste if it has been sitting for a while just like it does in the coffee maker, like over cooked. I was hoping that wouldnt be the case. I use this cup every day during the week that I am working. The rest of the time I use regular cups. I think this would be ideal for someone who doesnt drink their coffee fast or gets distracted easily and comes back to cold coffee often. It is on the heavy side. Definitely bottom heavy as that is where the battery and heating element are. It must be hadn washed and dried quickly. You dont want to leave the bottom wet.

Great mug! Use it every day. It keeps it warm for about an hour off the charger, long enough to enjoy one cup. WARNING it says it’s a 14oz but it only holds a maximum of 12oz in the cup. If using Keurig settings, you need to use 10oz otherwise 12oz fills it to the brim. Which is fine, brewing more than 10oz on a Keurig I think dilutes the flavor. But keep that in mind that if you are deciding between the 10oz mug and the 14oz. The 10oz holds 10oz to the brim, so brew setting is best at 8oz.

Perfect coffee cup. Keeps coffee warm so you have time to finish the cup without your coffee getting cold. The navy blue matches my kitchen so that is another perk for me.

I love this cup so much I bought 4 of them. I got the Rose Gold from Ember directly, the white one from here, Best Buy had the blue one on a great sale today, and the Sage one somewhere. As you can see the cup is a little testy (it shouldn’t be red) but a quick reset on it phone got it to maintain the temperature again! I have 2 jobs so I keep one at both jobs, one at home by my bed and one by my recliner!! I bought these super cute wooden spoons because I read the reviews and don’t want to scratch them up! I also leave on the charger a lot and bought the lids to go with to hold my ideal temperature which is perfect for me!!

Let me start off by saying this a one of the best mugs for coffee lovers. With that said, the only two negatives I have to say will be the price and battery life. For the obvious reason, $150 is a little steep for a any mug/cup. It serves a purpose, so there’s not too much I can say. The battery life I wish was a lot better than what you get. It ranges between 2-3 hours. So if you’re someone who likes multiple cups, relaxing and drinking outside, or keeping at your desk while working you’ll definitely have to consider that. The few hours may seem like a lot of time but trust me when I say you’ll get plenty of notifications that your mug needs to recharge, which is slow to do that as well. It may not be perfect but it’s still a great cup.

I purchased this mug to cut down on the number of cups I was wasting each day, thrown out because they got cold, so I’d end up just brewing a new cup. While this has indeed kept my coffee warm longer, it comes with the caveat that if you use half & half in your coffee or tea, anything over about 30 minutes will start to separate and curdle, so drink up and don’t expect it to keep for an hour or more. The mug is a rechargeable stainless steel mug with a nice sleek design that fits in well on my desk and makes it easy to wash, and is recharged by placing on the included coaster that plugs into a standard wall outlet (charging cord included). The temperature is then set with the app, if you choose to use it, which connects your phone & the mug via Bluetooth. The out-of-the-box temperature is 135°, so if you opt for no app you’ll still get the benefit of a heated drink. But the app allows you to tweak that higher (max of 145°) or lower (low of 120°). The app will also give you notice when the battery on the mug is getting low & needs to be recharged. The device will detect when the cup is empty and shut off the heating element automatically. You can also do that by manually turning the cup off (button on the bottom of the mug) or in the app. Know that it will continue to heat even with a small residue in the bottom and will turn that into a solid film you’ll have to scrub out later. So when done, make sure you wash & dry the mug with a cloth to let it reset itself to “Empty” and shut off. Battery life is good. You’ll get about an hour out of the battery before you get an alert that it’s low. What I don’t like about their app is there is no quick way to see the battery level. When you launch the app & it finally connects, it will show the temperature right on that screen. To see the battery level, you have to go into “Settings” to view it. Why they don’t include the battery level right there at the home screen I don’t understand. Seeing that you’re more likely to be checking that than tweaking the temperature constantly, that’s just bad UI design. As mentioned above, the constant hold at a temperature will cause a curdling of regular half & half, where it’s separating the fat in the cream (see photos). I haven’t had this issue with fat-free half & half (which I prefer but haven’t been able to find in Texas the last couple of weeks thanks to recent storms). So while this will keep your coffee warm for an hour or more, that doesn’t mean it’s drinkable in that time range. If you’re a non-cream user, your drink should remain perfect longer-term. Overall I love the mug, though again with the cream issue the timeframe for a cup isn’t as long as you might think. I would give this more like a 3.5 star. It definitely controls the temperature of the liquid you put into it but it does not make it warmer. So just be aware of that. I was expecting the coffee to be just a bit warmer and for longer. So I am not over-the-moon about it. But it is much better than just having your coffee continue to cool. However, I'm not feeling the value for the money. These things are not cheap. And the enamel in the bottom of mine has already started to come off just a bit. Not sure how that happened. I thought it was baked-on coffee, but it's the actual material that's rubbing off the inside of the cup. For $135 for a mug, I would have expected much better quality.

This is an amazing little coffee mug. I have been waiting for like twenty years for someone to come out with a dependable self-warming coffee mug that actually worked and kept your coffee HOT. I mean steam comes off the coffee the entire time (I have mine set for 145 degrees (max). I will opt for the optional lid, too....as it makes it great to take on hikes, in the car, etc...not to mention it saves on the battery because it stays hot easier. At $99 sale price, it's still pricey, but honestly, I'd buy one again if need be. Bonus: I love the dark blue color, which was the only one on "Deal of the Day". Win win!!
