Synopsis

Enchanted
Classic Disney animation meets contemporary urban chaos when a frightened princess is banished from her magical animated homeland to modern-day New York City in a romantic comedy penned by Bill Kelly (Blast from the Past), directed by Kevin Lima (Tarzan), and featuring music by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) lives in the blissful cartoon world of Andalasia, where magical beings frolic freely and musical interludes punctuate every interaction. Though Princess Giselle is currently engaged to be married to the handsome Prince Edward (James Marsden), her fate takes a turn for the worse when the villainous Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) banishes her to the unforgiving metropolis of New York City. As the cruelty of the big city soon begins to wear down the fairy-tale exterior of the once-carefree princess, the frightened Giselle soon finds herself falling for a friendly but flawed divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) whose kind compassion helps her to survive in this strange and dangerous new world. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Enchanted is a delightful fantasy/comedy in which Disney parodies some of thier own movies. Mainly Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, but there are references to others. The picture and sound quality of the Blu-Ray are stunning. Very clear, lots of detail in everything. The story begins in the animated world of Andalasia where a wicked queen sends Giselle (the heroine) to the mysterious world of New York City (where we transition to live action). Prince Edward charges off to New York to resuce the fair Giselle. Enchanted blends music and fantasy with the feel of a Broadway musical or of a Disney film like Beauty and the Beast. Lots of great music and non-violent fun. James Marsden does a brilliant job as Prince Edward, Disney's densest Prince Charming. It's hilarious to watch Prince Edward act like he is still in a cartoon world even though he's in the real world of New York. Amy Adams is superb as Giselle, a truly unique Disney Princess. Both are excellent singers. The extras show how some of the music and visual effect sequences were made and there is a Blu-Ray exclusive trivia games that unlocks even more secrets of Enchanted. Enchanted is the kind of movie the entire family can enjoy. Fun, music and fantasy all rolled up into one great movie. Enchanted has a 'PG' rating, but it really warrants a 'G' rating. If you are a Disney fan, this Blu-Ray is an essential for your Hi-Def collection!

I waited until I saw the film on pay cable before I bought it. I wanted to make sure I liked it before I purchased it. It is a good Disney film. Putting the live action flip into a tried & true fairy tale Disney formula with the young woman to be rescued from the prince & living happily ever after. I was glad Susan got the part of the Queen. She did a good job. BUT, HER ROLE WAS TOO SMALL. We done see her until the end of the film & before that just her voice in a few scenes. I would have loved to have seen her take off with the role. Let’s see. Dempsey got the role because of his hit ABC show. I found his role & performance boring. Went no where. The film SHOULD have won Oscars for the music. Shame it did not with Oscar winner Alan Menken at work again. Sure beats that “you’ve heard it once you’ve ever one of Randy Newman’s music for the Disney/Pixar films. Amy Adams did an OK job as Giselle. Just, her performance was just missing 1 little spark in my opinion. Beautiful to look at. The animation parts are normal Disney the best you can get. Kids will like it, if you are an adult & a Disney fan you will too.

After reading the good reviews, I got this movie for my girls and was surprised at how much I ended up loving it. I previewed it and felt a couple scenes were a bit intense for our 5-yr-old daughter, so I skipped past those parts when they came up but she probably would have been fine. For you big Disney fans, there are lots of in-jokes and references, as well as a few cameos from the voice talents behind some popular animated princesses. The music, in terms of both the songs and the score, is excellent, which is what I've come to expect from the team of Menken and Schwartz. Amy Adams is awesome in portraying the cartoonish innocence of the starring role and is surrounded by a well-chosen supporting cast. Writing this review make me want to watch this film again, for the 5th or (6th?) time!

I remember my first viewing of Enchanted and thinking how different fairy tales (which are actually quite gruesome) often become after Disney makes them all cute and fluffy! But the shattering of archetypal images and the hero's journey aside, this is quite a fun and enjoyable movie. James Marsden is hysterical and really shines in this type of role, as opposed to the more stoic Cyclops from the X-Men. Amy Adams is wonderful, as always, as are Susan Sarandon and Patrick Dempsey. A new classic made even better in a stunning Blu-ray presentation. If you haven't seen this movie yet, please give it a chance...if you already own the dvd, I'd say the Blu-ray is worth a double dip!

If you like Disney, then you probably already know about this movie. But if you have more of a casual interest, or want to find an enjoyable family movie, then give this a try. What's great is that this movie actually spoofs the typical Disney fair and plays off of it in a fun and entertaining manner. Anyone can watch this film and enjoy it. If you are older and have seen your share of Disney classics, then you will spot the many references to those films. If you're younger, then this lighthearted film will help draw you into the fun world of Disney and it's fairy tail stories.

In this Disney Musical Comedy, Amy Adams plays a princess banished to the real world to keep her from her prince. Taken in by Dr. McDreamy Patrick Dempsey she tries to find her place in this world while her inept prince follows along and does nothing useful. Fun music without the need to think about things, this movie has one fatal flaw. Idina Menzel stars as Patrick Dempsey's g/f but she never gets a song... in a freaking musical.

As almost everyone knows by now, Disney's Enchanted is a story about a princess (Giselle) who lives in an animated, enchanted kingdom, but somehow ends up in the Real world of New York City as a real human woman, finds love and happiness, and (presumably) lives a long and happy life. Okay, the plot is a little thin, but the wonderful original musical score, and the frequent, self-deprecating (and maybe a little bit satirical) humor, more than make up for it. Plus, there is actually a love story that is more believable than the ones in most princess movies.

This is probably one of the cutest movies I've ever seen in my life. It tells the tale of what would happen if a Disney princess got out of the story book and came to the real world...and what you get is alot of chaotic and hilarious moments. It doesn't follow the usual cliche of movies and the whole film feels very fresh and unique. Amy Adams shines in this film...literally. Sometimes it even got a bit too much and I was honestly creeped out at moments. It's a fun and extremely light hearted comedy that I think people of all ages will love.
