    Epson 88 Black Ink w/ CX4400 Printer

I have owned an Epson Stylus CX4400 printer for the last few years and have purchased my ink from both Best Buy and directly from Epson. Pros: - Good Print Quality (No smearing/smudging) - Extremely easy to replace - Relatively low cost per cartridge Cons: - Cartridge Life Explanation: After several years of use I never could get over the fact that I was constantly replacing my black ink cartridges. I use my printer in black-ink only mode primarily for printing papers and reports. Recently, I decided I would test out just how many pages of full text (no images or charts involved) by printing the 10-K financial statements of a publicly traded company. My results were quite disappointing. I was unable to print the entire 10-K using a BRAND NEW ink cartridge purchased from Best Buy. The ink cartridge ran out and I was prompted for replacement after just 130 pages of full text. Considering the ink cartridge cost me $13.49 + tax ($14.37 total) it comes out to a cost of roughly 11 cents per page in ink alone. Paper costs roughly 2 cents per sheet in my location. Factoring in the cost of paper I estimate that the cost of printing black-only full text documents is a little over 13 cents per page. When you compare that against statistics of competitors printers and ink cartridges, it becomes clear that the cost of printing (with this cartridge/printer combination in particular) is pretty abysmal.

My family and I use only one printer so we all share the ink between us. It lasted about a month before I had to go and buy a new one. We printed about 5 pages a week between us and I would consider that light to average use. My kids printed up essays for school and I taught them how easy it was to install a new ink cartridge. I wish it was a bit cheaper, ink always seems expensive to me, but what can you do?

I cannot believe how few pages this cartridge prints. It is just terrible. 130 pages never even comes close to what I can print. About 50 pages is the most I can get out of one cartridge. Just a ripoff. Thank God I only use my printer for incidental things. You could never be a student or run a business with this product, you'd go bankrupt. I have had this printer for about 4 yrs now, so it's not just one cartridge that was bogus.

I went cheap with my ink and I got a cheap quality. No matter how many times I would attempt to replace the cartridge or clean the nozzle head, I would not get any ink to print! I ended up having to do full color copies rather than b/w. When I wanted to print out a document, only the color images would print and none of the text. Splurge on the moderate-use version, it works better!

I have an Epson printer that does really well with pictures, and this ink does that great. The only downside is that when doing regular print jobs (Word documents, for instance) the ink doesn't seem to last very long. This is probably due to the fact it's being so meticulous thinking it's printing pictures. ;-) My fault, for getting the printer. Nothing wrong with the ink, though!

I was not happy with my Epson printer. It recently died after 2 years and now I have an hp which I am much happier with. Smaller, cheaper, faster, quieter and works better in general. I didn't see much difference in the 88/69 inks so I usually bought the cheaper one. But both seemed to run out quickly and I had a lot of smudges and poor print quality in general.

For the price its worth the money. While my Epson NX-100 is a really old all-in-one device I need this ink to make it work. The biggest issue isn't the ink as it is the device itself. It uses cyan even when you tell it to only print in black & white and if you don't have ink in all the cartridges the printer will not function..
