Although poor ratings had compelled the Fox network to cancel its iconoclastic, cutting-edge cartoon series Family Guy at the end of its third season in 2002, the series' astonishing popularity in rerun form on cable's Cartoon Network coupled with the spectacular sales posted by the property's initial DVD release in 2003, prompted Fox to revive the show, with brand new episodes beginning in the spring of 2005. The first of the 14 comeback adventures of the supremely dysfunctional Griffin family is "North By North Quahog," which, in addition to its expected Hitchcockian undertones, manages to find time to skewer Mel Gibson's controversial The Passion of the Christ. In later episodes, the Griffin's family dog, Brian, ends up as a substitute teacher for high-risk kids; dad Peter Griffin swallows a bunch of nickels, goes blind, and accidentally becomes a hero in a story that somehow also accommodates a guest voice appearance by Judd Hirsch; nebbishy neighbor Cleveland goes into "worm turns" mode when he is told that his wife, Loretta, has been fooling around with the libidinous Glen Quagmire; Peter takes an intelligence test and winds up losing custody of his kids (and his wife); Brian shows up as a contestant on "The Bachelorette," while son Chris Griffin is afflicted with a demonic talking pimple. Later, to pay his pharmacy bill, Peter sells daughter Meg to the druggist's son; mom Lois' kleptomania forces the family to take refuge in "Asian Town"; and Lois earns "real money" as a model in her spare time ("And so can you!"); after spending several months marooned on a desert island, Peter finds that he is even more expendable than Tom Hanks; and actor James Woods becomes Peter's very best friend -- and refuses to leave the house. Taking all this into consideration, the season finale, in which Peter and Lois go the Laverne & Shirley route at their local brewery, is as traditionalist as an episode of The Waltons. ~ Hal Erickson

      Good, but not great

Family Guy's fifth season was a strange experience. Instant classics would alternate with droll, paint-by-the-numbers yawners. This set is a must-buy on the strength of episodes like "PTV", "Brian Goes Back to College", and "The Father, the Son, and the Holy Fonz". But mindnumbingly awful episodes like "Patriot Games" and "Petergeist" drag the collection down to the realm of merely 'good'. Hardcore fans will be excited at the inclusion of commentary tracks for just about every episode on the disc, but the recordings lack the obvious chemistry of the pre-cancellation writing staff.

      Hahahaha sweeet.

I love Family Guy but I think there is one problem..The Fonz Episode. I like the episode don't get me wrong..Its just there is alot more you could do with it..for could have peter come in and hit the jukebox and it falls on someone. The season was great and I suggest buying it, Not intended for anyone that does not understand how to laugh at themselves every once in a while. Chances will be offended by something. But..GREAT show and I hope you buy this. ~Enjoy.

      Can't get enough

Family guy is the best cartoon IMO, it may not have the strongest plots like the simpsons, but I just wanna laugh. The best part of this DVD is that every episode has a commentary. If you ever wondered what inspired the crazy ideas behind each episode you will find out in this volume(obviously only for these episodes). I actually watch the commentaries more than the actual episodes.

      long live family guy!

If you love to laugh and can stand some sarcastic, at-time tasteless humor, family is for you! :-) it's not as harsh as south park, but has its moments. if you have children, I'd watch the epsisode before your kids do or else you may be getting some questions you don't want to answer at their age (e.g., booz, birds and the bees, the talking baby, etc)

Family Guy Volume 4 is the best installment yet of the series. Some features include commentary on every episode by those associated with the show, scene studies, deleted scenes, featurettes, and DVD-ROM link to exclusive online content. This fourteen episode, three disc set is sure to pack in the laughs, and is a must have for lovers of comedy.

      Pretty Good Volume

This is a pretty funny season but it's not the best one that's out. There are a few good episodes like "Breaking Out Is Hard to Do", "Model Misbehavior", "Petarded", and a few others. If you really like Family Guy i would recommend it but if you're looking for only one season of Family Guy I'd go with a different one.

      Funny, funny, funny

This DVD box is all that you could want for your Family Guy collection. I've watched every episode several times, and they still make me laugh. Some of the deleted scenes are the funniest part of collection. I love this show, and this set was well worth the money to me.

Volume 3 of Family Guy is hilarious. These are the first episodes after the show had been canceled for 3 years. The humor in the show is noticably different and they definitely are more crude but these episodes are very funny. Plenty of special features.
