    Synopsis

    Field of Dreams
"If you build it, he will come." That's the ethereal message that inspires Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) to construct a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. At first, "he" seems to be the ghost of disgraced ballplayer Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta), who materializes on the ballfield and plays a few games with the awestruck Ray. But as the weeks go by, Ray receives several other messages from a disembodied voice, one of which is "Ease his pain." He realizes that his ballfield has been divinely ordained to give a second chance to people who have sacrificed certain valuable aspects of their lives. One of these folks is Salingeresque writer Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), whom Ray kidnaps and takes to a ball game and then to his farm. Another is Doc Graham (Burt Lancaster), a beloved general practitioner who gave up a burgeoning baseball career in favor of medicine. The final "second-chancer" turns out to be much closer to Ray. That "magical" field in Dyersville, Iowa still draws thousands of baseball-happy tourists each year. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

      Grand Slam on HD DVD

As a life long baseball fan/player, I am ashamed to say, until today, I had never seen Field of Dreams. I am glad I finally took the time to watch this incredible story. The movie stars Kevin Costner (Robin Hood, JFK, Bull Durham) as Ray Kinsella, a farmer in Iowa who begins to hear voices in his cornfield tell him “If you build it, he will come.” So Ray decides to plow over a portion of his farm to build a baseball field. Ray is sitting with his wife Annie, played by Amy Madigan (Carnivàle), wondering why he built this field, when his daughter Karin, played by Gaby Hoffman (Uncle Buck, Volcano) and says “there is a man on the lawn,” and there he was, Shoeless Joe Jackson, played by Ray Liotta (Goodfellas, Identity) and begins to play baseball with him. Shoeless Joe then tells Ray there are others and next we see there are 9 players enjoying the game. But the voices don’t stop and Ray goes on cross country journey to find Terence “Terry” Mann played by the great James Earl Jones (Star Wars, The Lion King) who in his legendary voice preaches a great speech about Baseball. Upon finding Terry in Boston, he and Ray, travel to Minnesota to find Dr. Archibald "Moonlight" Graham, played by Hollywood Legend, Burt Lancaster. Everyone one has a dream or wish in the film and in the end on this field, dreams do come true. As for the technical aspects of the DVD, the colors are bright and vibrant and the sound is crisp and makes you feel like you are right there, which is everything you expect from HD-DVD. There are not many special features but the one include are entertaining and interesting. Some the special features are “From Father To Son, Passing Along The Pastime” (great feature); deleted scenes; feature commentary; roundtable with Kevin Costner, Bret Saberhagen, George Brett and Johnny Bench; Galema, IL pinch hits for Chisholm, MN; The Diamond in the Husks (another great feature about the movie site and how it truly is a Field of Dreams; Bravo Special: From page to screen; and The Field of Dreams scrapbook. As I mentioned above, I am glad I finally watched this great movie. If you have never seen it or haven’t seen it in HD-DVD, rent it or buy it. Whether you have a regular DVD player or getting the HD experience this great film will last the test of time because at Terry Mann says “there is always one constant in life…BASEBALL.” In closing, go out and buy yourself some peanuts and crackerjacks and get your copy of Field of Dreams, cause this HD-DVD is a grand slam.

I ordered this movie on Black Friday when it was only $1.99. The picture in the Black Friday ad shows it as coming with a digital copy, this very description page shows it as coming with a digital copy, and the invoice I got in an email states that I got the edition that includes a digital copy. However, the actual DVD I got in the mail was a bare bones edition that does not contain a digital copy in any way whatsoever. The packaging in the picture is clearly different from what I received. I thought I was getting a great deal for both the DVD and a digital copy for $1.99. I'll update this after speaking with customer service, hopefully with positive results, but if I don't end up with the advertised product or better, I'll also be returning this to my local store.

Field of Dreams is an instant classic that makes you not only analyze the relationship you have with your father, but also the directions you choose in your life. While on paper the movie does not sound like it would be that good, but the performances of Ray Liotta and Kevin Costner make this the perfect movie. I Have yet to see a grown man watch this movie and not be moved by the dynamic relationship

What not to love about a man who puts his farm and house in jeopardy to build a baseball field for former players to come play on. Kevin Costner never had a close relationship with his father but through the baseball field they get a chance to play catch. The story is great all the way through and it will make you shed a tear in the end especially if you are a parent

I picked this movie up for my Father-in-laws birthday and he absolutely loves this movie. He and I really enjoyed the "extras" included on the discs. The Hall of Fame ballplayers at Costner's home for a private showing and to see that the field is still open as an attraction. Must take my family to see the Field of Dreams for real.

I love this movie. It used to be that when I was in school, I'd play the VHS every night to help me sleep. Great movie. I can't speak to the quality of the blu-ray as I've never watched it. This was bought for my brother for christmas to replace his copy that no longer works.

This is a film that I have seen several times and finally decided to buy a copy on DVD since the VHS copy won't play on the DVD player ( go figure). Went to see the film site and was reluctant to "step over the line" the magic of the film is THAT compelling ! If you haven't already, this is a MUST see film.

This is one of those must have movies and blurays. Many of us grew up with this film and it still holds up today especially the emotional relationship between a son and his father. Universal did a great job with the bluray master and we'll worth buying
