YES! It is a soprano, and it can play! I would wait a year to put this review out there, but pointless... I now have 2000+ hours into ukulele on several brands including Mitchell (concert) , Daniel Ho (tenor) , and Kala (baritone). Lets just hit the pros and cons: Basically a travel soprano but has the pros of a concert size: + Soprano travel size but with 15 playable frets + Beyond most classic soprano 12 frets, nearly concert 17 fret + Zero fret paired with unique bridge construction keeps the string action low and intonation on point. (no buzz) + Quality strings from Aquila ("New Nalgut") sounds modern + Linen Wood top is enough to make this plastic fantastic! bright! + Strong plastic back, sides, and neck are strong enough for a person to step on it without breaking it. Its quite durable. onto the few cons: - It is enough sound to fill a room but not enough to actually perform for others. It might be a hit in your living room or for your kid to play in his/her room, but not enough sound at a BBQ or a party with a wide open space. - The butterfly at fret #10 is a bit feminine (not that I'm being feminist) but it could be just a dot or a star. Their concert models do have just dots which in my opinion are standard and look fine In summary, this little soprano can play well! Regardless of the plastic back and sides, the top is "Linden Wood" which sounds very bright and happy! Quality strings from Aquila are great for practice and fingerpicking little riffs while traveling.

You won't be disappointed if you buy this instrument. It looks and feels like a quality product. I bought it for my adult daughter who loves it, but only plays it every so often. This why it doesn't pay to buy a really expensive uke to start with.

Flight Ukulele - Ukulele is a great guitar starter for my seven year old son to get into music.
