    Synopsis

    For Love of the Game
Based on the novel by Michael Shaara, For Love of the Game brought Kevin Costner back to the world of baseball after his successes with Bull Durham (1988) and Field of Dreams (1989). Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner) is a star pitcher with the Detroit Tigers, standing on the mound at Yankee Stadium and throwing what is shaping up to be a perfect game with the help of his best friend and catcher, Gus Osinski (John C. Reilly). However, Billy is having a hard time keeping his mind on the game; he's come to a crossroads in both his personal and professional lives, and he isn't sure what to do or where to go. He's learned that the Tigers are about to be sold, and the new owners intend to trade him at the end of the season, and that his girlfriend Jane (Kelly Preston) is planning to leave him. For Love of the Game represents a change of pace for director Sam Raimi, best-known for the Evil Dead trilogy and the acclaimed suspense drama A Simple Plan (1998) (although Raimi, a baseball fan born in Michigan, doubtless enjoyed making a film featuring the Detroit Tigers). ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Ok when I watch films I do so on a 165" movie theater screen (Recently down from 180") with full 7.1 surround sound and the Buttkicker transducer system. This is not to Boast but to give an idea of the clarity that I rate both 4k and 1080p films. 1st off regardless if you are huge into 4k or still collect Blu-ray; I will add that with today's upscaling technology and with upscaling technology on theater projectors that the difference between Blu-ray & 4k is really is minimal. I will say that going over 75" that you will likely see a difference and recommend 4k for the future proofing of your collection. I found the film to be average when it came to the picture. 3 stars. The sound was the other unfortunate surprise. It lacked that draw. Moments when you really needed the sound to bring up those high points just fell kind of flat. The story itself was good. i would have given it 4 stars. If only picture or sound on this blu-ray was an isssue again it would have received 4 stars, However it was both.... You wont regret the purchase as its an inexpensive film that helps in the inspirational section, just don't expect any sound like the film Miracle. Enjoy!

Another the series of Costner based baseball movies and though it's not in the same class as Field of Dreams or Bull Durham, I've always found this incredibly enjoyable. Less about baseball than actually the actual characters I never get tired of this. John C Reilly, the Yankee fan at the airport bar we've all known, and the mesmerizing Kelly Preston. A remarkable performance by a young Jena Malone. You'll never look at V8 the same

For Love of the Game is a pretty good baseball/romance movie. The baseball stuff is a little better than the rest and that shows on the disc. The baseball scenes are immersive and the Blu-Ray does a good job of presenting those, both visually and through the audio mix. The movie has a pretty good soundtrack as well. The transfer won't blow anyone away but is a nice step up from the old DVD.

Many movies in the past have tried to mix sports and romance into the storyline and have failed miserably. It was either too sports heavy or too romance heavy but never the right mix. (Jerry McGuire, Fever Pitch, Schindler's List! ok, maybe not the last one) This movie has just the right combination of sports (which I enjoy) and romance (which my girl enjoys). Hollywood finally got it right!

When most people think baseball and Kevin Costner they think Bull Durham. However, they would be missing out on this gem of a baseball movie For Love of a Game. Touching and heartwarming and almost right up there with all the other Kevin Costner greats well worth watching and now available on blu-ray. You wont be disappointed.

Kevin Costner is great in yet another baseball movie. You have your typical cheesy sports movies "can he do it" type of story but a good story regardless. Having the Legendary Vin Scully provide his talents takes the movie up a notch and makes it feel like authentic baseball. Must watch for any Baseball fans

The transfer to Blu-Ray could've improved the visual quality but it still looks great. I think they intentionally didn't upgrade the TV shots in the movie, which they probably should have done something with as they look really bad instead of just like a TV shot would on a DVD or VHS version.

I love this movie I always have, the music is great in it, the over all content is very good...It is a love story but it hit a note with me about his ability to focus when he is pitching to shut everything off but what you are doing...Anyone that plays sports know the focus...It is an amazing movie!!
