Synopsis

Fred Claus
Santa's black-sheep brother gets a much-needed shot at redemption in this holiday comedy reuniting actor Vince Vaughn and director David Dobkin (Clay Pigeons, Wedding Crashers). It's not easy being the brother of a benevolent and beloved saint, and no one knows that better than Fred Claus (Vaughn). After struggling for years to live up to the example set by his younger sibling Nicholas (Paul Giamatti), Fred has finally given up. These days Fred is working as a repo man taken to stealing the items he repossesses, and his shady tactics have just landed him in jail. While Mrs. Claus vehemently insists that Fred fend for himself, Nicholas refuses to sit idly by as his brother rots in jail and agrees to set bail if Fred will repay the debt by coming to the North Pole and help make toys for the upcoming Christmas season. But Fred isn't nearly as productive as your average elf, and he's got quite an attitude to boot. With Christmas fast approaching and Fred threatening to sideline Nicholas' entire finely tuned operation, the brother that always struggled to get out from under his sibling's substantial shadow finds out just how far the patience of a saint can be pushed before jolly old Santa reaches his breaking point. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Once again, Vince Vaughan is a good pick as a weasel, but with a heart, that just needed the right trigger to open it. The relationship with his brother Santa (Paul Giamatti) and their parents is something to think about; several cliches ( e.g. why can't you be more like your brother..." etc) seem to rush the plot line, but otherwise seem to fit in the story development. The heart development, and final giving of Fred does give a much better climax to the story than him continuing in his original direction of self-destruction, and just accomplishing the mission for Santa. A much better film with this climax as Fred sees himself finally, and seeing the needs of others as more important than himself. The caring for his young friend is a key part of the story, as it makes him start to see that sometimes old standards (the Naughty list) need to be reconsidered. The storyline of closing Christmas due to an efficiency expert (Kevin Spacey) leaves a bit to be desired, as we have no clue as to what organization gave him authority to discontinue Christmas - I know it is fiction (and other films have done similar challenges to the continuation of Santa and Christmas), but it would be nice to give this "ghost" an identity. As a comedy, the progression of the plot and the casting, overall, it hits the mark. Matthew 1, vs. 21.

While films like Elf, Home Alone, Christmas vacation, and A Christmas Story get played over and over, Fred Clause deserves some love. It's a well made movie about two brothers who couldn't be more opposite of each other and that's what makes the movie great. Their differences between them bring them together to save Christmas. Own it, you won't be disappointed.

Fred Clause is a funny children safe movie to enjoy. This movie includes Santa as a great guy that will confirm for children he is real. Little to no bad language and minor fight seen(basically a snow ball fight) make this a family safe film.

I know a lot of people think the movie; Elf is the best CHRISTmas movie out there, but you have to see this one. I think this one is the best "actual" CHRISTmas comedy movie out there. This is Vince Vaughn at his best!!
