Synopsis

Friday
Hard-core rapper Ice Cube, after appearing in such hard-hitting films as Boyz 'N the Hood and Higher Learning, played his first comic role in this picture he co-wrote with frequent musical collaborator DJ Pooh. Craig (Ice Cube) manages to get fired on his day off (though he claims it's through no fault of his own) and spends the day hanging out with his buddy Smokey (Chris Tucker) and trying to avoid his father (John Witherspoon), who wants him to find another job immediately. Smokey (whose name might have something to do with his tremendous fondness for marijuana) has even more serious problems; he was given $200 worth of weed to sell by Big Worm (Faizon Love), but he ended up smoking it instead, and if he can't come up with the money by the end of the day, he'll be in a world of hurt (and will put Craig in the same place just for being his friend). And Deebo (Tom "Tiny" Lister, Jr.), a gargantuan bully who roams the neighborhood on his bicycle, has it in for Craig, while Craig tries his best just to stay out of his way. As one would expect, Friday features a strong hip-hop soundtrack, featuring tracks by such artists as Dr. Dre, Cypress Hill, Mack 10, and Funkdoobiest, as well as old-school R&B selections from The Isley Brothers, Roger, and Rose Royce. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The director's cut ruined this classic!

They got rid of some of the classic scenes of this movie and makes it less enjoyable than the original cut was. Why they changed it is the only question I have?? This is one of my all-time favorites and I could watch this again and again and still laugh, however I cannot do the same with the director's cut. Waste of $9.99 in my opinion. I would've loved to return it, but good old BB and their return policy on opened movies. Now I am stuck with a blu-ray I will never watch. Just stick with the regular DVD version or buy the Ice Cube 4-film favorites bundle that is only $9.99 and includes all three Friday's plus All About The Benjamins - best movie deal around.

I bought this movie for a friend's birthday since he is a big Ice Cube fan. We watched it, and having seen it before in my younger days, I was reminded of how funny the movie was and see that several of the more poignant scenes still ring true today so I purchased it as well. It happened to be on sale so it was a double win. This movie presents well in Blu-ray, and while definitely not for kids, is still more than the comedy it was initially marketed as.

I haven't seen this movie in over 10 years. I caught in on a sale (under 10 bucks) while building up my Blu-Ray collection. What a great movie! If you haven't seen it, there is probably a reason. If you have seen it, do yourself a favor and buy this copy. The soundtrack is great, not just musically but the LA environment. Picture is sharp.

Back in 1995, as a 17 year old, I found this movie funny as hell. fastforward to 2013 and after viewing it again, I found that I was either more mature or the movie really wasn't as funny as I remember it. Overall, there is plenty to enjoy. From the soundtrack, to the cast of characters. Too bad they went ahead and made a more than sub par sequel.

It had been years since I saw this movie. Then I see the directors cut is on sale. And what do you know it was like watching a new movie. This is a must have in any collection. Ice cube is a genius and not often seen for is creative vision. Although there are sequels nothing beats the original. And not beats this version.

This movie will go down as a comedy classic. Give it 5 stars. So many funny parts cant choose favorite one sow wound say over all this movie is GREAT.

I have seen the movie on a DVD upconverter and I feel it looked better than this blue ray. Don't buy Director's Cut unless you want the extra scenes that in my opinion just killed the movie. I would recommend you watch it first if possible, because it was a difference

Friday is one of those great mid-90's classics. Ice Cube and Chris Tucker was a dynamic pair. Sucks their teamwork stopped at this movie. Nevertheless, this movie brings back wonderful memories when times were awesome. Great classic movie. I need this in my collection.
