This air conditioner features a 165 sq. ft. cooling capacity to keep small rooms cool and a 24-hour on/off timer for convenient, energy-saving operation.
Q: The product width says it's 16" but a 23" minimum window width is required - why?
A: The actual unit is 16" wide, however in order to properly install it you also need to add the wings to it as the wings are what actually screws into the window and secures the unit in place. Technically, it's probably possible to install the unit using the brackets which lock the windows in place and nothing would happen, but my guess is for liability reasons they aren't giving that advice. If the thing falls out and conks someone on the head they don't want the lawsuit.
Q: Is this air conditioner loud?
A: This air conditioner operates at 53 decibels on the low end and 57 decibels on the high end. This would be equivalent to the sound of a quiet stream or a TV on low volume.
Q: How do you secure it in place?
A: It comes with little brackets, but I didn't use them. I cut a couple of 1"x1" boards cut to length from the top of the window down to the top of the window sill. wedged them in place. Extremely secure, can't raise the window from the inside or outside without removing the wood posts.
A: Yes, you can program it to whatever set point and turn the unit to auto setting, and it will control the temperature to that setting. Much like a home central heating and air unit. The fan will run, but the compressor is only running as needed to cool the air.
Q: what is the minimum window width it will fit in?
A: The smallest Frigidaire 5,000 BTU unit requires a window that is 23" wide for proper and secure installation.
Q: Is the plug for this unit a 110 or 120 or 220v?
A: The unit uses a regular 110 wall socket plug. Regular prongs with a ground prong.
Q: What's the maximum window width it will fit?
A: The maximum window width for this air conditioner is 36".
Q: Is the filter slide out or frame enclosed?
A: Slide out, on the front right side of unit.
