All looks no function, it's doesn't work

My old AC unit of 5,000 btu (not frigidaire brand/ I have had it for 7+ years) was no longer cooling to my comfort. So, I decided to go to the Bronx Terminal Best Buy and get a new one. I'm into interior design and this unit is the most beautiful one I could find. Sure it's a little pricey (almost twice as expensive as getting another 5,000 btu model), but it's modern, pretty, with app features, and at 8,000 btu it was surely going to be the best AC I have ever had, right? WRONG!!! When I brought it home at 10 pm, I noticed it had bent coils but I wasn't going to go through the trouble of returning it for that. So we mounted it and in the moment of truth it REFUSED TO TURN ON!!! I had to sleep with no AC in a 90F room!!! I returned to the store first thing in the morning and asked to exchange it for a new one. To be cautious I also asked that they please test it out before I take it. They plugged it in and turned it on for a second saying they didn't have the power to actually test it. I noticed that, like the last one, this one had bent coils (they must not be very careful with their products). I asked if they would give me a discount for first selling me a nonfunctional unit and now selling me a second one with bent coils. The manager, Eleina (I think) said no. She said my only option is to keep exchanging them until I found one with no bent coils. I thought "fine, I'm sure phone customer service will see my point (they didn't) and what's important is that I get something that at least works even if it's not in perfect condition (which I used to expect from a brand new product but it's hot and standards have been lowered)". A functioning AC is all I wanted, I didn't even get that. I noticed at home that the coils were much worst than I had noticed in the store. Even worst than the first one I got which are shown in the pictures I upload with my review. AND THE AC DOESNT COOL!!!! IT HAS BEEN 3 HOURS AND MY ROOM IS STILL AT 72 DEGREES!!! WHAT DID I PAY SO MUCH MONEY FOR?!! It's pretty but it is not THAT pretty! This product is beauty over function. I'll most likely have to return it.

I had to buy 2 units, as the first one had a faulty wifi adapter and would not connect. Frigidaire helped me determine the problem very quickly and approved me for an exchange. The top buttons of the unit are very easy to press, they take very little pressure to engage power turning on etc, in such, that when my cat lies down on top of the A/C to look out the windows, she ends up turning the unit on. Frigidaire had never heard that complaint before, I asked them to add a cat owners feature to make a quick double tap of the power button the way to turn it on if enabled.. they are looking into that for me. In the meantime I have put a paper towel folded across the top to prevent my cat from operating the unit on her own. The app is great, the scheduling function could use a little work. You can't edit the schedule directly, you have to clear the whole thing and setup a new schedule instead of editing a day or so. We live in a small Manhattan apartment and I wanted a way for my wife to cool down the bedroom before she arrives home to go to sleep, so this unit is perfect for that. I would have preferred something smaller like 3000-5000 BTU but this is the only wifi enabled one on the market. It's quiet and does it's job well, I went for the purchase of the frigidaire stand as well, so I can completely control the angle in which the A/C sits out the window. Lots of people complained about leaking A/Cs on this model, but one of the first things in the instruction booklet is about how you need to make sure it has a downward slant going outside so condensation doesn't collect and drip inside your room. Airflow is UPWARD this is apparently more 'green' from what I read. My 2nd unit is perfect, I would recommend this for anyone that wants to have the benefits of central air scheduling control but lives in an apartment.

nosy, rusting after 2 moths, app unreliable

    Posted

I would give 0 if possible. to summarize: Noisy, less powerful than regular units, the "smart part" of the appliance is not reliable (continually disconnecting from wifi), and after 2 months of use is rusting out. First and foremost the noise: unbelievable! I noticed that right away, but I thought to exchange that for the convenience of the smart appliance and the reliability of the brand. After some use you realized that the app is not always reliable and that the appliance drop the wifi connection and you have to reset and pair it again for the AC to work. After 2 (yes TWO) months of use the bottom is rusting. I have other AC unit for years installed on the windows with no issue. I called Frigidaire and a less than pleasant representative explained to me that their policy in these cases is to send out a technician and if it is a warranty issue they will pay, otherwise the customer is responsible for the charge, that buy the way you are not allowed to know. Another note for the customer service: they give you an appointment window and the number of the technician encouraging you to call them right away, once you call the technician has no clue of the matter. I had similar issues with LG and Kenmore that admitted the item was defective just sending them photos of the damage and replaced it. A personal not for who looks for smart appliances integration, there are accessories out there that can make you AC unit smart and App controlled that are 100 times more reliable and dependable and have Smartthings integration (that this one do not support) and this solution is actually cheaper than buying these units.

Cools great but lacks 'smart' features

The AC looks fantastic & works great as an AC unit, quiet , cools room down pretty quickly, but lacks features as a ‘smart’ appliance. Connecting the AC to the wifi network is cumbersome. The AC will only connect to a 2.4ghz network & the network name or password can’t have special characters or it won’t connect. The app is sluggish to operate, after making any changes it'll take some time to apply the changes or just time out (which happened frequently). A recent update seems to have alleviated some of the issues a bit. The app lets you control the temperature, mode, fan speed, see filter status, & set a schedule but besides that it's pretty limited. There is no way to see energy consumption of any kinds, any history, or set multiple schedules per weekday, weekend, & night operation. The ECO mode on the AC is broken because it takes inaccurate room temp reading after cycling on for too short a period of time (10 sec every 10-30mins). The AC shows room temp to actually drop after AC has turned off for an hour! In Eco mode, the room has drifted to 80F+ all the while the AC thinks the room is below set temp. What I want to see in a future update: 1.) Have the ability to control the AC through a web browser (not just a mobile app). 2.) Be able to see energy consumption & savings stats (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, annually). I want to know when & how much energy the AC is using at which settings. How much do I save if I set the AC a few degrees higher, etc. Modlet seems to have some of these features, why not Frigidaire? 3.) Be able to set multiple operation schedules for each day or time period especially since the ECO mode is broken. 4.) Be able to set the cycling on time period in eco mode from 10 seconds to 1 minute so that it can get an accurate room temp reading. 5.) Be able to control the volume of the beeping sound on the AC as well as the display brightness. 6.) Be able to control the temperature drift range in ECO & Cool mode. Right now it looks like it is set +3 degrees in ECO mode. 7.) Maybe an android widget so I can quickly control the AC. Overall, the smart features are disappointing but the AC functions great, it's quiet most of the time & cools room down pretty quickly. Is it worth the extra cost for the smart features, not really, but i like the ability to control the AC with my smart phone.

    Great AC

Decided to pick this up after our first really hot day of the year when we noticed that the AC we picked up used about 5 years ago wasn't cooling the bedroom as well as it did in previous years. Reading reviews beforehand, I was a little worried about the "beeping" that other customers described, but it seems to have been greatly over exaggerated. I haven't noticed any "regular" beeping during operation except when the unit turns on. If it happens, I've been sleeping through it. My wife hasn't heard it either. In fact, due to the energy saver mode, the unit spends a lot of time completely idle and silent. Someone in a review mentioned that when it does this, it isn't easy to glance and figure out if it's actually on or not. While this is true, pressing any button on the unit or remote "wakes" it first before changing any settings, so you can hit a button to see if it reacts if you aren't sure. I've also read complaints about the pairing process for the app and I don't get this at all. It was straightforward as can be - download the app, create an account, hold down the wifi button on the unit until it beeps, connect your phone to the wifi network created by the unit and enter the password for your home wifi. Connect back to your normal wifi and you are done. The app instructs you in plain english during the setup process and it's very easy to follow. The app works great - the biggest issue has been a connection delay where the command took a little longer than usual. This is still a great feature for pre-cooling the room before you get to it or controlling it for your pets while you're away. 100% happy with this and would buy smaller ones for the 2nd and 3rd bedroom if it was available in smaller sizes.

Cools effectively, beatiful design, Hand Smart app

I've read a bunch of reviews before this purchase and I've read how some people stated that this AC was noisy and loud, but I'll have to differ, It's very quiet and way less air flow noise that any other AC I've had. I have a standing metal fan and it's about the same level noise when it's on high. You actually barely realize the air blowing through the vent, there was a time my wife asked if I turned it off after setting it up because it's so low. My wife and I set it up in about 15 minutes after pulling it out the box. The cooling is great and love the fact that the air blows upwards, cools the room very quickly and efficiently. Set your desired temperature and let the AC do its job. The ECO cooling features comes in handy so you save on your bill. The only issue I really have is with the app. The set up was pretty smooth and easy, but the apps response to your touch commands sometimes are a little delayed and slow, but it sure does come in handy when you're away from home and wants to cool it down before you arrive. You can also set your AC to come on at a certain time and desired cooling temperature. Would definitely recommend getting this air conditioner. We have it set up in the living roughly about 500 sqf and it cools very well and also cools down the rest of the rooms and hallways a little when the doors are left open, even gets in the kitchen and bathrooms. Match it together with a fan and really get the air circulating throughout the house.

I searched the net for an AC unit that had a "smart" feature and came across this frigidaire. Of course I always have to buy from BEST BUY and the best part, they had it in stock at the store. I just installed it yesterday, turned it on and immediately connected it to my wifi. I had installed the app and registered before so I was ready whenever I had it installed. The wifi part connected seamingly and easy and quick. I can control it with my iPhone and do everything I want it to do. This works perfect since I installed it on a custom hole I made on my wall above my window and controlling it manually would be hard otherwise(although it also comes with a remote). Aside from how easy it is to connect and work with the app, it looks stunning and nothing like all the typical old fashioned looking ACs out there. The noise is like any other AC out there. On high it sounds as it should, putting in, high work. Low sounds a little quieter and probably the setting it should be once u have the desired temp. I like that it shuts off when temp set is reached and powers on when needed.very very Econ!!( that's the mode I use). Also the LED in fromt of the unit displaying mode, and temps is very cool and modern looking. It all just flows with its slick and high tech design!! If your looking for an AC, it's worth it to pay the little extra cash for the smart feature compared to similar BTU units without it!!

    Nice and Quiet

    Posted

It's only May so it's hard to tell how good it will be throughout the summer but so far it's very good. It's very well built and looks quite nice. The filter tray seems to be held magnetically and it's easy to take it out and clean it and for it to snap back in. I've always hated acs with difficult to close filters since i'm afraid of pushing too hard and having the ac fall out of my 5th story apartment. The ac is very quiet especially on low mode. I have it right in front of my desk and it doesn't bother me at all. Also, since the fans are pointed straight up, it's perfectly fine to have it in front of you while you work. The ac doesn't blow in my face and it doesn't bother me at all. Finally, the wifi feature is pretty cool but I can't really see myself using it. The included remote is better than the app for controlling the ac. Maybe on a really hot summer day, you can turn it on before you go home but outside of that it's more of a luxury than what i really need. I recommend it since it's quiet, efficient, and it blows upwards which is a major plus if you plan on sitting anywhere near it.
