Great Camera If Your Expectations Are In Check

So, Since I'm old and lived through the Polariod era, I am a certified expert on this. This camera is fantastic as long as your expectations aren't too far out there. Cons: Most likely the pictures coming out of this thing are going to be under or over exposed, period. This camera isn't going to take good photos, so please don't even expect it to. In the best conditions you'll be left with a photo that looks okay..maybe. Pros: What this camera will do though, is give your child something fun to occupy their time with. They won't care that the photos look mediocre at best. They won't care that the resolution is garbage. They won't even care that they're thumb got in the way of the photo and they can't use iPhoto to edit it out. What they're going to care about is the fact that they are almost instantly available for them to give to a friend, put on a wall or stick in a photo album. That's why you bought this camera, right? If it is isn't, you're probably going to be disappointed.

Great Camera for a 12 year old

I love the retro aspect of this camera and it reminds me of the old throw away cameras I used to use growing up that developed the picture right after the picture has been taken. Offers several color options and helps teach a child what to take pictures of and how bc once the paper/film is gone, the camera is only good to look at bc it’s unusable until you get more film, which also teaches kids about money in a certain way. I think it’s bc they don’t want to spend any of the money they have saved bc it’s NOT that important to the child and something they feel their parent should purchase for them. If it’s NOT important enough for them to spend their money on gettting more film, but will spend their money on a $30 GameStop Card so they can make purchases for their XBOX, PLAYSTATION, or whatever console they have, then is the opportunity to teach them about priorities bc in my opinion it does far more harm than good if a child always gets what they want, NOT need!!! Overall, fantastic teaching tool that I’d think the maker NEVER thought of the advantages and opportunities that this camera offers.

May need to test outside to give higher stars

    • Verified PurchaserVerified Purchase

I read reviews before purchasing and noticed some stated that the camera took dark pictures but I wanted to get one for my 10 yr old son to try out. We have only taken 3 pics with the camera so far and yep, the pictures are too dark. I tried moving the setting dial to correct and it didn't work. I will read the instructions more as I have time and see if I can get it to perform better. I will try to take an outdoor pic to see if we get better results. I had one of the old Polaroid cameras from the old days, with the larger film and so far these new cameras just don't compare. You didn't have to move settings to get the picture to be brighter on the old models. So, I believe the minis have a ways to go to get to the caliber of the old Polaroids. So for now, I give 2 stars because of the work that needs done to get a brighter picture indoors.

Easy to use and very stylish

    • My Best Buy® Elite Plus MemberElite Plus Member

The camera is very nice, not a lot of setup, and very easy to use. The price was not too bad but I'm sure will be great buy during holidays. But for only 10 dollars more than mini 8, it has selfie mirror and auto best light detection. We are using for a wedding reception and mirror was necessary. The pictures that we have taken has turned out very good. The biggest thing that is disappointing is it only takes ten pictures but this is similar to a lot of polaroid like cameras. I do wish it has external storage onto a memory card if out of film, more photo capacity, and lower price for film. Overall it is a very good camera but just can't give it a 5.

Cool, but expensive and poor image quality

I bought two of these for my twin girls for Christmas. I thought they would have fun with them... and they did... until they ran out of "film" which was within the first two minutes. First of all the image quality is terrible. The colors lack saturation and the images lack clarity in general. I can honestly say this is one area where technology has not improved the end result at all. I recall the original Polaroid cameras of the past and these images don't even appear to match the quality of those. Now the next disappointment came when I went back to best buy to buy some more "film" I was shocked to find that the cheapest is right about $15 for 20 exposures. Now I'm no math wiz but at $.75 per exposure you could go broke really quickly with these things. I would definitely not recommend buying these cameras. I would save your money and buy a cheaper digital camera instead.

Good Instant camera for simple shots

My daughter wanted this camera to take intant pictures. It does what it is supposed to do. The camera is easy to use. If you are looking for portrait quality though don't bother. This is strictly for taking quick simple pictures. The photos are very small, like 2 inches by 2 inches approximately. The instant photo takes quite a while to develop so you have to be careful with the pic when it comes out of the camera. The photo quality is average. Pictures appear over exposed at times (kind of washed out), and a little blurry too. Film is pretty pricey too. But it is a fun little camera and for those that remember the Kodak One Shots (or whatever they were called), it will be sort of nostalgic. I don't really see the need for something like this any more with digital phones, etc. but it is a good toy for a kid.

Awesome camera for what it is

We got this camera for my son to take candid pictures with. So far it has been a lot of fun to see his shots with this and the instant photo is great. The quality of the photo isn't the best, but it is an instant photo and it appears better than the old Polaroids. It has a setting ring on the objective that the camera indicates it should be set, and the user is supposed to rotate it to that setting for the best results, something I didn't expect with this camera. It also came with a little detachable lens for close up shots. The camera itself has taken the abuse of a 5 year old and is still trucking. I recommend it for fun, not for hobby or serious photographers.

    Old Memories

It's great introducing this to younger ppl. I enjoyed buying this as a gift and expressing how or cameras in the old days were as similar to this. The instant film has great quality but eventually the cost adds up. Personally I rather buy a printer and enjoy the investment printing pictures directly from my smart phone from the luxury at home. If you fail to take a picture correctly you just basically wasted a $1 per sheet as a pack of 10 sheets roughly cost you $10.99. Easier and cost effective to choose from your phone what pictures you'd actually appreciate printing to save sheets. The will eventually go out of interest soon in my opinion as they did years ago with the growth in technology.
