Destiny Finally Comes to the PC
Bungie: A Look Back
To say I'm a Bungie fan is a bit of an understatement. I vividly remember playing Halo: Combat Evolved for the first time at a store demo in 2001 while my mother went about her shopping, which is where I fell in love with the developer. When Halo 3 came out I even purchased the Legendary Edition, which came with a full-sized Master Chief helmet. Unfortunately the helmet wasn't wearable like I'd hoped, but it still has a place on the shelf to this day. I've played every game Bungie released through the Xbox 360 generation, though as I grew older and my taste in games began to change, I found myself moving away from consoles and more to the PC.
This caused a problem when the first Destiny was announced and didn't include a PC version like I and others had hoped. Over the past 3 years since its release, I've read and seen a lot of great things about Destiny, and still held out hope it would come to PC someday. Now with the recent announcement of Destiny 2, my dreams have come true, and I'll finally be able to play Destiny on my PC!
On May 18, Bungie finally revealed gameplay footage and a slew of particularly interesting features and details for PC gamers in their Destiny 2 live stream.
Many of my friends have put considerable time into Destiny and accrued a wealth of rare and powerful gear. Having never developed an experienced or well-equipped character, I feared this would put first-timers like me at a disadvantage in Destiny 2. While seen as a controversial move in the eyes of many, I was happy to hear that existing characters imported from Destiny would be given a clean slate, retaining only their class, race, gender and appearance. This is accomplished as part of the Destiny 2 story, and is a creative way of putting everyone on an even playing field.
It was also announced that Destiny 2 will be the first non-Blizzard title to utilize the venerable Battle.net platform. Longtime and experienced PC gamers have probably used Battle.net before, which was first released with Diablo in 1996, and all subsequent Blizzard titles like StarCraft and World of Warcraft. The platform boasts top level game management, cheat protection, multiplayer services, and social networking, and should provide the strong foundation PC gamers have come to rely upon in Destiny 2.
